A great console with 3 game DLC bundle at a decent price.

    The games are all free-to-play.

  • +3

As above, DLC, cosmetic BS at that too.

  • Still only a plain white console. Doesn't even have a skin on it

What a sorry excuse for a "game bundle". From getting triple A titles to free to play games that you can access anywhere.

  • +4

Better off getting a second hand one for $300 and buying three games you want

I really like the Series S, but it has to be the right price and I don't think this is it, to justify it over the Series X, and that price is a lot cheaper.

It's all about the storage, the Xbox OS is about 200GB so from a 512GB drive you're left with about 300GB vs 800GB on the Series X, so at the $350 mark, sure the Series S looks like it's a great deal, but yeah otherwise, X reading discs, +500GB storage, more powerful processor.

This deal brings the Series S price down to the RRP in the USA (US$299). So $439 should be considered as the upper range for any deals.

I agree with the storage concerns, however it should be noted that all Xbox Game Pass titles can be played without installing by using Cloud Gaming… a feature that is rarely mentioned on OzBargain.

So storage is best used for those games that you play a lot, so it's not a deal breaker.

Cloud gaming is an option, especially for say RTS games, puzzle games, a few other genres.

Doesn't work at all for FPS, Action, Platforming, Racing, Sport, or any genre where it's fast paced, the input latency is just too high.

        • +1

Disagree. The average casual gamer will cope fine. It's not 'doesn't work at all'.

Not everyone watches Digital Foundry and is obsessed with the tiny details.

          • @scuderiarmani: @scuderiarmani if it works for you that's great, but I think the larger gaming community that enjoys these games would agree with me that latency and speed are not yet ready to have an enjoyable experience.

It's not just ping/latency, but it's input lag, moving then the delay in the character receiving the instruction, then you seeing it on screen.

Turn based games, anything where the immediate input the CPU/opponent the delay doesn't matter, even Worms

Internet speed is definitely important, decent to good internet should get you by happily though, I've played a bit of Battlefront 2 over cloud and had a perfectly fine experience. I've streamed Fortnite on a tablet via 20mb/s limited Felix mobile and won a normal (albeit no build) match. It's definitely useable, though I wouldn't buy a console for it.

      • Cloud doesn't support every Game Pass game, though it does support a substantial majority.

I would argue it's not mentioned that much, as the Xbox One can play the cloud games too with more or less identical performance, so it's not really a selling feature of a new console

      • This deal brings the Series S price down to the RRP in the USA (US$299). So $439 should be considered as the upper range for any deals.

In the US they add sales tax on top, unlike here where the price already includes GST.

        $299 USD + GST = ~$480 AUD

      • cloud gaming is not available for ALL game pass titles

You have 364gb useable, you can pair this with a cheap 256gb USB for ballpark 30/40 odd bucks and you're almost lined up with what the PS5 lets you use. My Series S has 40 something games on it and 50 odd gig left over, and that's just the built in drive, I don't personally use thumb drives for anything other than ROM storage.

That's including decent size games like Fortnite (40ish), Tony Hawk (25ish), Dying Light (40ish), etc.

  • A tenner to the man who gives me their Fortnite and Fall Guys codes.

idc about Rocket League. Played it before it went F2P, and played SSARPBC before that.

  • Not to bad of a price if you dont play fortnite as the code itself has a value up to $150

    • Not sure what you mean here. Where can I flog the code off to for $150?

      • I know. $149.90 is the best I'll go.

        $150? No way!

  • Currently have ONE S with games on a 5tb external drives. Can I just plug the external drive to Series S and play the compatible games immediately of it?

Looking to grab an S just for emulation at some point, will wait for a sub $400 deal.

    • yup.. emulates all 8 and 16 bit consoles, PS1, PS2, gamecube, Wii and xbox 360. plug in a usb drive with the games and you're good to go for 1080p gaming.

  • Not a good deal given that it was $399 only a few weeks ago but I wonder if the enjoyment of getting it earlier and playing will outweigh the saving of $40 and having to wait…

  • Showing as $458 for me, am I missing something?
