[Pre Order] Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 512GB + Bud2 Pro + 24 Months Samsung Care+ $1958 Delivered @ Samsung (via WBC CC)

980
BONUSCARE

Ok, so here is what I just did…

  1. Clicked through via Shopback (current 8% offer announced today I believe).
  2. Ordered S23 Ultra 512 (Graphite Grey - Online Exclusive).
  3. Added Galaxy Buds2 Pro (Graphite Grey).
  4. Added Samsung Care+, 24 months.
  5. Added promo code "BONUSCARE".

The Pre order gave a $250 e-voucher like so many other places have. The took the Bud2 Pro's from $299 to $49.
Pre order offer also included 50% on samsung care for 24 months.
Using the "BONUSCARE" code - this took the remaining 50% charge of the Samsung Device care to $0.
Placed the order using a CC with screen cover included (not that its needed due to device card, but hell… why not, right?)

All items in the order will ship on the pre-order shipping date: 15 Feb 2023

"Total savings:$724.50"
Not including the cashback from Shopback.

Calculating (rounded):
Total cost of : $1998 order
- GST: $181
Ex GST: $1816
- 8% (expired) confirmed as tracked (just hope its approved) Shopback: $144

$1998 - $144 = $1854

Roll the dice and see how you go.

Should work the same way with all the other models too. S23, S23U, and variation on the storage sizing etc (excluding those without the double storage offer).

I also used some of my Samsung Rewards Points, so its actually a bit cheaper.
You can also use the trade in offer also, if you have an old phone lying around, or buy something from ebay or gumtree for under $300 and want the bonus trade in credit (min $300 for eligable devices. I keep all mine, and cant be stuffed going out to pick something up from anyone else…) So if you want and find something on your way home from the office or the likes… Grab one a 2nd hand one and take off another $300. Just make sure it in the list.

Oh, and if you subscribe to it - best add in some flowers for your partner, or chocolate, or beers, whatever it is that work and whatever way you play it!

I'll just buy myself something else today. ha!

Happy OzB'ing…!

      Yep!

I got me some added to the account, and used what I had in the balance. Noted in the OP.

2K for a Samsung phone? Nah homie. Poco X5 Pro for ~AUD450 slapped with a custom rom. All set. The 778 5G has the same performance as my Mi 9T Pro's 855. Don't need anything more. Yup, it is a cool story.

    Great write up though.

    • +10

Thats like saying, we all 'only need water from the tap', or 'only need a Hyundai' or whatever is the cheap equal to what WAS the Excel when it was released. (Noting, Hyundai is a good bit of gear for the money now days).

      Do we need big TV's?
Do we need, wireless keyboards and mice?
Do we need subscription music and/or tv providers…?

No many of us have them? Yep!… I'll order wait for my S23 U… hahaha
Thats what OzB is all about, isnt it? 5#17 we dont really 'need', rather, buy it cos we want it and justfy it by saying stuff like… "It's on sale and its a bargain". :)

      • +1

My bad homie, a 2K phone, that Samsung too is definitely a requirement and equivalent to some water value car analogy that isn't even right.

Yes, if the tap water is clean, you only need tap water and yes if all you need is a reliable, affordable car to get from A to B then a Hyundai is all that's needed.

You're literally proving the point with your own words.

The reach to try and justify spending 2k on a Samsung phone is remarkable, what else can you expect from Samsung fans.

I flashed Android 13 on my $300 Redmi Note 5 from 2018, it has the latest security patch too and runs like a beast, tell us what Samsung phone does that from 2018?

        • +2

Do you wear addidas or Nike? Do you have a tv?Do you biy nice things because you want them?
Dont judge people wanting to spend 2k on a phone because they want it.

        • +1

His point is very few people just buys the bare minimum they need. Most people buy stuff they don't need but they do enjoy. Look around you, 99% of the stuff you can see in your house is stuff that you could survive without and therefore don’t need. No one needs a tv of any kind.. let alone a 50+inch lcd - you can live without it. All you really need is a tin shack, clean water and one meal a day… pretty miserable existence.

          • +1

@simulacrum: I got his point, what gives him the right to judge? I bet he has purchased wants rather than needs at one time or another.
He could have bought a $50 phone from coles but chose a $300 phone instead.

            • @Spendmore: Ha we’re on the same page mate, I meant my post as a reply to him. My bad.

              • +1

@simulacrum: Sorry it was early here when i replied.
I think some people just get jealous or have different values on things that they expect other people should have.

            • @Spendmore: I'm glad you brought up "Right to judge", if you actually read my first comment it was clear I was talking about me, and what I need, I even complimented the write up. However the response from OP was filled with judgments and an attack against me, telling me that I'm the idiot for what I'm doing, literally the exact thing you're accusing me of, but don't see that part eh?

I couldn't care less what other people are spending their money on, a comments section is for comments, I commented on what phone works for me but the insecure Samsung fanboy had to try and justify a 2k phone on his own, I didn't ask for a justifion, and in doing so he did the judging on me.

Also this is a first world country, 90% of what people own here isn't needed in life, amazed this is used to try and justify anything, if that's the card you have to play then it's literally guaranteed you are reaching so hard.

Also I did have a 50 dollars Coles phone for a while, the 300 dollar was the minimum possible spec I could get for my needs, anything less than that wasn't working and I tried.

Anything else you'd like me to justify about my existence? Oh that's right my bad, I'm the one asking for others to justify eh.

              • @Zylam Marex: Wasn't clear at all it could be implied either way……homie.

                • @Spendmore: Yeah sure buddy, and the pure clear judgement from the Samsung homie towards me, where's the judgment rebuttal from you there?

  • $1947 on Amazon minus $50 SHARETHEEPIC code minus $250 amazon voucher…. net cost $1647 (s23 ultra 512 gb green) … if you want more disc get a new CBA creditcard with $300cash back bringing the net cost to $1347….

    • No free care+

    • Seriously, why don't you also add in the extra $13 in reward points you get for the CBA spend.

    • The Amazon deal is good if you buy stuff from amazon

    • What you’ll get

    • Thats just the phone.

No ear buds, or care pack… The $250 credit is later on too… Already have a few hundred bucks in Amazon credit from other crap. So didn't want anymore with them.

No such a great deal. I looked at getting it from Amazon, JB, TGG, OW, Bingers, eBay, and a few other random places. This appeared to be the best 'deal' i found today.

      • +1

It's a good deal if you don't need the buds, and don't care about Care+

        • May need to consider Care+ becaause Samsung care = no care. We all say judging a good company or not is after sale care and in my case Samsung is not reputable as what it used to be. Paying $2k for a phone and you may face trouble if it fails. Buyer beware.

      • +1

Not being forced to spend it or loose it via Samsung, wish I knew of Amazon deal. Looks like faster delivery via Amazon too, which is a greater deal for me.

I already had ear buds, and was forced to waste it in covers and chargers via Samsung.

  • Can we get shopback 8% even if we use Samsung government portal or edu store? TIA

  • JB has similar pricing to yours.

$1949 discounted to around $1900 via live chat.
-$300 due to trade in bonus
14% gift cards from Members Advantage for example

    Total $1376.

You still get your $250 JB Voucher which you can also buy Buds2 Pro for a total of $49. If you already have Buds from previously, you can save your voucher for another time.
I haven't included the actual trade in value assuming some people may not send their phones in and thus get charged etc.

If you really want Samsung Care+, you can buy that later on?

    • +1

I got my S23 Ultra 1TB from JB yesterday as it was the best deal for me with trade in, Telstra plan gift card and had some JB gift cards lying around and then used the $250 to get Buds 2 Pro for free (stacked with the 20% off headphones perks voucher). Just had a look and you can get Samsung Care+ for 50% off at the moment even if you didn't buy the phone through Samsung.

  • This deal was exactly what I've done on 2nd Feb while pre-ordering it. Got my phone and Buds 2 Pro delivered on 7th. Pretty good! The only sad note was their trade-in offering for my Pixel 6 Pro (512GB). For $290 I rather keep it in my drawer for emergencies.

I also grabbed a leather case from Samsung's store yesterday for $63, a touch cheaper than online.

    • Did you get your phone delivered in the 7th? Thought shipment didn't start yet?

  • +2

Sorry haven't read through every comment but just be aware anyone who isn't - if it says 'online exclusive', there are no returns on it even if not opened and within the normal return period.

  • +2

How can I justify to pay $1998 for a phone these days?

    • Look $5k Macbook bargains :)

    • +1

You cant, buy alternative. Pixel 7 Pro, OnePlus 11 etc which are very good phones.

    • +2

I justify it by not liking money.

    • I use my phone everyday and having a powerful computer in my pocket, for less than $1 a day is a deal for me. That's how I justify it, but I paid $1500 5 years ago for a Note9.

      • +1

That was such a great phone…

        • I still have it and it's 'fully' functional, it'll live on! But I also had a S7 Edge that just randomly died after a set period and Samsung update, so didn't want to wait till I had no phone before replacement.

  • My son ordered through Samsung edu. S23u worked out to just under $1200 after trade-in. Got a heap of accessories too. Should be delivered tomorrow. I think in terms of price, the best option was officeworks but the free SamsungCare was what made the deal.

    • also, the bonus trade in value comes afterwards as an Officeworks giftcard, so the samsung edu store seems the best

    • What did they trade in?

      • He traded my s22 and I'm going to take his flip 4 which I'll probably trade at a later date if I don't like it.

  • thanks micky, grabbed one

  • Does anyone know if there's really an option to pick up the s23 in store? Cant find it on the checkout page…

  • Sorry but how does placing the order via a CC help in anyway?

    • Depends if you CC offers perks, like cash back, rewards, or in the case of many premium CC's, free screen insurance (with excess of course).

      • Cheers mate, know of any perks with Westpac?

        • Usually yes, if you log in and you have an eleduable card from WBC, then there is a 'rewards section' on their website. Normally you can see stores like Samsung, Iconic etc. They have discounts. ATM though, i cant see the Samsung portal link. Seems to have dropped off in the last few days. Prob too many people ordering phones and it screwed stuff up. Cant remember the discount on the handsets though. Just ordered direct anyways… But keep an eye out in future.

          Amex has replacement screen cover.

Not sure on others as I only carry a World MC with WBC and Premium typre of Amex card.

CBA does some stuff too I believe, as does others. Just dont know what they offer though.

          • @mickyb80: Thanks heaps for that

            • @MJD91: No prob! Regardless if one earns $30k a year, or $300k (or more), doesnt mean one cant screw the system when and where possible to save some coin$ on purchases.
More remaining/left over coin$ means, more things to buy when OzB members add something interesting!
              Makes the world go around.

BTW - if youre asking about all this because you dont have a CC, then please consult an accountant or advisor. I dont know your personal financial situation, so it could carry a major impact on your credit rating, and financial circumstances. There are sssooo many different cards out there for different reasons, perks and services. So best check which one is best suited for you! :)

  • $747 +250 voucher after trade in with s22 ultra 256gb in officeworks. Not sure if its worth the upgrade but tempting

    • Link? Cant see that price

      • +1

They are giving $900 for s22 ultra trade in, plus $300 addition bonus. So $1947-$900-300= $747

        • Ah thanks. Dont think it's worth the minor upgrade

  • Is it really a good deal. Last week it was cheaper with tradec and stuff

  • Now you can zoom in on the moon

  • I had my accessories and watch chosen out to go with my S23U. Went to samsung to try it out.. left deflated. Took about 6 pics identical on my iphone 13 PM.. iphone left it for dead. Couldnt believe it. All this hype on 200MP camera.. trust me its a fraud. The photos on the iphone so kuch better. I didn't even shoot a video because it would have gotten worse. Not trolling please try yourself

    • Must have had a dud😅👍🏼

    • +1

Very easy to pump up MP with software.

The "100MP" s21 Ultra camera has better hardware

      https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12024&idPhone2=…

Of course you will get downvotes, how dare you challenge the opinions of people who earn an income by saying nice things about Samsung phones, they are "professionals" and you are just some random guy

      • It is a physical 200mp sensor?

        • The aperture of the s23 camera is smaller, so how can you get 2x resolution with a smaller source of light?

The sensor might be upgraded but it can't create something out of nothing.

It isn't a 200MP sensor, it is a sensor that is creating a 200MP image. If you enlarge an image it will have more pixels, doesn't mean quality has improved

          • @[Deactivated]: Iy has 200 million 0.6 micron pixels, that sounds l iike a physical not software 200MP to me.

            • @Spendmore: If I take an image, the same image, and divide it into more - smaller pixels, quality hasn't changed.

              • @[Deactivated]: Hold on you said it wasnt a 200mp sensor….it clearly is.
Take a pic with 100mp vs 200mp then zoom in on the pic and yes the quality does change.

                • @Spendmore: No I didn't say that. Read my comment again. A sensor creates pixels. The same sensor can be programmed to create more pixels, it is still the same sensor. A sensor doesn't have megapixels.

A sensor takes an image and converts it into pixels. If the lens aperture is smaller, then the source image is smaller, that is what I am referring to by the hardware.

What the sensor does is not hardware, it is creating a digital image. Again, if you divide the same image into more pixels, you don't increase quality. The improved sensor can only do so much.

If samsung programmed the s23 sensor to produce 50 MP, you probably would not be able to tell the difference in the final image quality. Increasing MP is a way to confuse people.

If you don't understand pixels are not the same thing as quality, don't be telling me I am wrong

                  • @[Deactivated]: Copied from one of your comments "It isn't a 200MP sensor".

From the samsung website "The ISOCELL HP2 packs 200-million 0.6-micrometer (μm) pixels in a 1/1.3” optical format, a sensor size that is widely used in 108MP main smartphone cameras. "

The sensor captures 200mp then picks the best pixels and outputs to a default 12mp image. You have tje option to output a 200mp if yo want that has not been altered by software which wouldn't be possible if the sensor wasn't 200mp.

                    • @Spendmore: Copied from my comment

It isn't a 200MP sensor, it is a sensor that is creating a 200MP image

Why are you intentionally not reading my comment? Do you just want to have an argument?

                      • -1

@[Deactivated]: Yep incorrect, it has 200 million 0.6 micron pixel capture points on the sensor.

                        • @Spendmore: Stay ignorant and never learn anything

                          • @[Deactivated]: Seems to be your motto.
2 sensors one captures 100mp the other 200mp, zoom right in and the 200mp image is clearer. Why, because it captures twice the information the 100mp does.
What the sensor does, contrary to your comment above is because of the hardware, not software.

                            • @Spendmore:

zoom right in and the 200mp image is clearer

                              No.

                            • @Spendmore: I think that’s the point bud. It’s not taking twice the information. A sensor of the same size, taking 200MP instead of 100MP will take the same amount of information and cut it up into more bits for binning.

There’s no increase in light captured (the information). Also, photo quality is not just sharpness, it many other things.

I’m no expert but greatlamp just explained how it works for you. Yet here you are quoting “Samsungs website”. Just take a step back and think about it.

                              • @BusMan247: So you agree with him that zooming in on a photo that has been taken on a 100mp sensor is the same quality as a 200mp? At a certain point the resolution gets so high the 100mp loses clarity.

                                • +1

@Spendmore: I agree with what I said in my comment, not what you’re saying in your reply above.

I think you’re missing the technical point. Taking 1MP and chopping it up into smaller pixels doesn’t make the photo any better. It’s the same image cut up more. So sure, you can cut it up more, but you can’t increase light, and in some cases, you might actually be reducing the light each pixel sees.

You just need to understand there is more to it than pixels in photography. Hence why the iPhone 13 Pro max dominated with a 12 MP camera, and then the iPhone 14 with only 48MP.

You get an old DSLR with a huger sensor that takes 12MP photos it will DESTROY a 200MP S23 ultra photo.

Don’t get me wrong, the S23 takes good shots, but not because of the MP count.

                                  • @BusMan247: I agree but same size sensors 100mp vs 200mp the 200 is better hardware and shooting in 200mp mode the 200 picture can be zoomed in way more than the 100mp.

      • In the interest of maintaining peace and harmony, there is an article about this by Engadget.

        https://www.engadget.com/samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-review-spe…

I think from a casual user point of view, the camera is essentially 12MP (by default) but with AI, Chip processing, etc all thrown into it, it can produce a picture that can maintain its quality despite being zoomed at ridiculous level.

Not sure how it fares in practice but I did see one of the film by Ridley Scott shot with S23 Ultra and it looked insane as the movie has a lot of dark scenes.

Waiting for another awesome trade in deal like they had for the s21 just under 2yrs ago, ordered 31/3/21

Might consider an upgrade then. S21u 256 worked out under 1k back then

  • Booked a 2 week holiday to Vietnam for same price!

    • +1

You still need a phone with great camera to capture great moments.

      • capturing the moment ruins the moment, needs a balance, $200 cybershot camera suffice

  • +1

Everyone check your Employer partnership program with Samsung. I am getting 20% off on S23 Ultra with $200 bonus trade in. My current phone S21 Ultra is $380 in samsung trade up app. Which essentially makes the MRP to $950. With $250 voucher to use at later stage to buy anything else.

If you know anyone working in Telstra office, they are getting 50% off on the MRP straight away. So make sure to ask around :)

    • 250$ credit is to be used in the same transaction, but not deducted from cost of phone.

You don't use the credit, your loss. I was burned once… Tried to cancel my order, couldn't because of custom color.

      Live and learn.

One more thing, don't forget about codes + Samsung points associated with your purchase.

  • I get a work allowance for $100 pm however the way phone and plans are sold nowadays the only way to get good pricing is outright. Is anyone in the same boat and can share advice? Not fussed with brand/model just want to take full advantage of a new phone and not be out of pocket. Only caveat is i have to be on Telstra.

  • Anyone know if you have 2 phone and if you want to trade it in, does it stack…i.e. $300 extra trade-in X 2 = $600?

    • +1

      Sorry, no.

Others have asked this. They will not give you bonus credit multiple times.

      Trade bonus procs once.

      • Sound about right, thanks for the fast response.

  • The Ozbargain way :

Wait till end of year to purchase S23U for 50% off, around 900-1000$

Wait for S24U release, trade in values will be about 700-850+ credit/ accessories. (Samsung will give low trade in values, jbhifi will give higher trade in value)

Upgrade to 'new' phone release for about 5-700 depending on which retailer you engage with.

Or, just buy the same phone now but later in the year for 50% off

    This is the way.

  • Can't quite login into Government Partner page, can anyone manage to get in?

I keep getting the "The webpage didn’t respond to the request in time" error. Curious how much would it cost for S23U through this webpage…

  • From my own testing….

If you are buying as a student, S23U will cost you for $1,479.20 if you trade in Note10+ 256gb (as a guide trade-in device)
If you are buying retail, S23U will cost you $1,529 if you trade in Note10+ 256gb (again, as a guide trade-in device)

I am guessing Govt would follow student pricing.

Despite what it said, you won't get 20% discount on S23U if you buy as a student or as a Govt partner. You will get much less than that.

Given I managed to get S22U for just under $1.2k, this would probably be a miss for me.

    • EDIT: Government Pricing is the same as Student Pricing. $1,479.20 using Note10+ 256gb as a guide trade-in device.

  • Looking to buy buds 2 pro. Hopefully there will be a slew of onsellers now.

  • traded in my wife's screen-damaged 1st gen z flip for $1, brought down the final cost to 1697- 5%cashback.
    sounds fair enough for me.

  • WBC Portal access back up.
    $40 less on the phone.

Total price is not $1958 is anyone has a WBC CC…

    Enjoy!
