  • Tempted to get something like this instead of a TV for my bedroom. Any thoughts??

    • its very doable and there are many great youtube vids about it but you will need to shut the blinds during the day if you are watching tv.

      • I will be watching movies at night only

    • also think about how loud it'd be

      • how loud will it be? I'm planning to put in on my bedside table which is right next to me

If you haven't had a projector before you need to consider fan noise. I was using a Epson EH-TW5600 as a bedroom TV and fan noise was only bearable in eco mode. According to this YouTube review the guy wouldn't recommend this model due to fan noise.

      • Thanks, I haven't used a projector before

Are most budget projectors this loud? Or just this model?

        • Can't say sorry as I only have experience with the EH-TW5600 but I would assume so.

      • Good info thanks.
I'm considering replacing the projector in my home theatre due to fan noise alone. Was wondering if these new lil projectors were any quieter than my current one (almost 11 years old), but this answers my question.
Will probably just go with a laarge TV instead.

        • You may be able to replace the fan itself (and if it's 11 years old, it may just be full of dust which causes the fan to spin faster)

    • I've got it. Paid $150 for it a couple months ago.

It's actually impressive for the price.

Only downside is that it's not bright enough to use during the day with ambient light unless you are projecting a small picture.
I use it with a 120" screen at night and it's perfect.

Keystone corrections is crap and shouldn't be used at all.

    • I have something like this (WiMiUS K2) and use that in the bedroom and we're pretty happy with the current setup.

Remember that we only use it at night with the lights off and it's pretty good. But during the day even with the blinds shut, it's terrible.

Our main issue was that the fan in these cheap models is usually loud and the built-in speakers are weak. So, what we've done is we've mounted it on a tripod at the footboard and attached a few cheap PC speakers to it and placed the speakers on the headboard close to our heads. Even the cheapest PC speakers are usually better thank built-in speakers in these cheap projectors. I tried using fancier Bluetooth speakers first and although I got it working, it wasn't worth the hassle and ended up connecting my 10+ year-old PC speakers.

Another thing is that you probably don't want to use the built-in wifi for playing content. We ended up using our old Chromecast there and the good thing is that we could use one of the USB ports on the projector to power the Chromecast and it didn't need a separate cable.

One final note is that this projector has only ±15° Keystone correction which if you want to mount it on the ceiling (the way that we did it), won't be quite enough. It works but that's the only thing I'm not totally happy with.

AHHH back to $199, I spent too much time asking questions :(

    • If you check out YouTube reviews it's the same story with fan noise. I think you're gonna find it's a case of bright/quiet/cheap - pick 2.

      • +3

Thanks, might get a TV instead then 😬

        • Yeah if you just want a cheap TV for the bedroom I think the best option is going to be a cheap second hand ~40 inch 1080p set from a reputable brand. You'll be able to pick one up for next to nothing and doubt you'd be able to pick the difference over a 4k set unless your bedroom is a literal shoebox.

  • That's faster than lightning.
