Cashrewards Cashback Denied on Sony "Price Matched" Purchase

Hi everyone. Just wondering what's your say about the email response I got from Cashrewards saying my claim was ineligible.

So there was a cash back a few weeks ago and did the purchase in-app as what was instructed, but the app did not track the purchase so I made a claim to CashRewards. Got the response saying that my transaction is not eligible as "Purchases made with exclusive discounts provided to employees, corporate and commercial partners of Sony Australia". I am, in not any way an employee, a corporate nor a commercial partner of Sony Australia. I browsed the same post and seems like everyone managed to have their cashback tracked.

Not exactly sure which part of that makes sense cause i don't think that getting pricematch from Digidirect is counted as being a commercial partner or am I missing something? I think some did managed to get theirs from the comments on your post.

I appreciate your responses to this.

Unapproved codes are ineligible for cashback, I would say since you got a price match and used a code that's why it's not tracking

    • thanks for your response. Not sure how it works but the sony rep gave me a new checkout link with the new price once i got the reply that my price match got approved. Not sure if in that process that it was counted as having a code even though i technically didnt use one.

the sony rep gave me a new checkout link

Hi again. This is almost certainly the issue then. The only 'link' you must use is the one generated via the 'Shop Now' button on Cashrewards. Any other link will deem the purchase not attributed to Cashrewards, and will therefore not track to us. Copying/pasting links is a no-no for all affiliates. Also in the OP you state you used the CR App. How did you apply a different link via the App when it uses a closed browser with no way to paste links? Also see my initial response below. Thanks.

        • Hi TA,

Sorry couldnt get to send you a message as I recently just created my account and I am a silent lurker here in OzB for a long time now. To answer that, I had my cart updated automatically with the item I purchased with the updated price after the pricematch approval. So I still managed to do the purchase in-app using the Shop Now button and did the normal way of checkin out and purchasing. Hope that clears up the question.

  • In 3.2.1….

Tightarse will reply with a backend (pardon the pun) screen capture of why it wasn't eligible.

    • @tightarse you mean?

getting pricematch from Digidirect is counted

99.9% this would be the reason your cashback was not awarded/approved, as likely not flagged as affiliate purchase on Sony's end

    Thanks for tagging me @spackbace.

@kennygee21 Hi and welcome to OzBargain. Please turn on your messaging and shoot me a PM with your CR email address and the related ticket number. I’ll look into this tomorrow for you and reach out to Sony if necessary.

Just as fyi, because a pricematch cashback may have ‘slipped through the cracks’ and worked for some does not mean it will work for all. We’ve not been given instructions re Sony’s pricematch and how/if it works with cashback. Until such time that Sony gives firm indication that it is eligible. I’ll err on the side of caution and say it’s not.

I look forward to hearing back. Thank you.

They also say this if your account is eligible for student and educator discounts, even if you didn't use a discount for that purchase.
"Cashback is ineligible on purchases made with exclusive discounts provided to employees, corporate and commercial partners of Sony Australia. Cashback is also ineligible for Sony X Members, Alpha Pro Support, Student and Educator program members, and Service Centres."
I paid full price for something expecting the cashback, but since I'm a Student and Educator program member, it still got rejected, and they gave me the same reason as you.

  • Count me as another denied CR using a price match. I didn't get a link though, I just had it in my cart and checked out as per normal.

They've tried to tell me I was using an adblocker as the reason, but I wasn't.

I guess that's the end of using them for anything.

    • Hey mate, yeah we had the same case and that's what I told the guy from CR handling my case, minus the adblocker. Mine is still pending and review from Sony's end. Not sure though how long it will take, and if it will be approved for that matter.

  • I don't recommend buying anything from Sony via CR. Sony never tracks, the transaction has to manually be added to your account. I'm having issues atm where CR are saying Sony is reporting less cashback for my transaction than it should be. I'm expecting around $330 for a TV from last year, lets see how it pans out.

    • TA to the rescue - my issue has been resolved

  • Just found out mine got declined too. There's nothing that stated that price match link used to purchase should be declined in the terms and conditions. Also previously, when I got a price match and purchase from Sony, the cashrewards money was paid. So unless they put some new terms and conditions up that I am not aware of to say this is illegible, I should have been paid right?
