So the ram is not upgradable right?

  • I am not sure if this is a bargain. Harvey Norman sells an Acer laptop equipped with 5-1240P, 16GB LPDDR5, 512GB SSD and GTX 1650 at $998. Not to mention the refresh rate of Acer's display is 144hz instead of 60hz.

It's an Acer… πŸ˜…, not to mention Harvey Norman. What a combo! 😜

Jokes or biases aside, they're aimed at different markets, but also it highly depends on what you value, and specs are "similar" not the same. E.g. Acer has DDR4 not DDR5.

      • In terms of support and warranty, Computer Alliance may not be much better. They were good for quite some time but recently, in my experience anyway, the support has gone downhill. I purchased a $2000 computer monitor that had problems out of the box, and my experience was quite poor. There are quite a few recent one-star reviews on Google Maps as well.

It's a shame, it used to be quite a competent computer shop. Now I just get all my stuff from Amazon which has really good return policies.

That Acer laptop got 2 upgradable Ram slots with 2 upgradable pcie SSD slots!

If you prefer running it on power supply go for Acer, if you need mobile machine that has decent battery life for a Windows machine stay with NUC M15. Both 1650 and 144Hz will drain battery quicker.

      Gaming focussed vs productivity focussed.

      • What's the screen like in the Acer? nits? SRGB coverage?
      • What's the build quality like?

If you don't need the GPU, the NUC is probably a better choice.

think, the 400nits is better than the usual 300 we see on entry level laptops ….

    • The Acer screen is much worse overall. Poor colours, low brightness and contrast.

It's thicker, heavier and has a smaller battery capacity. Fewer USB-C, worse ram.

It's certainly not terrible, but IMO the screen on the Acer is a key letdown. 45% NTSC and 800:1 contrast. Blergh.

    • dont buy such a crap tier "Gaming" Laptop

  • Do the nuc laptops come with a screen thats higher then FHD?

  • Who makes these? Are they manufactured by Intel themselves?

    • Looks like it….

  • I think you should be able to get the i7 touch model for around this price; it has a hinge designed for touch. 16 GB is all you get.

The Intel M15 only does 1920x1080 FullHD. The Intel X15 does higher resolution, but that is a very different, costlier, beast, with a poorer build quality.
