please help me understand how $966 is suddenly a "deal" for an item often around $800 in recent history.

    • True, missed those deals, hard to find them instock atm.

      • +4

there are periods where something doesn't have particularly good deals, and that's OK.

    • Gen z "cuz cheapast deal atm" "fInD oNe ChEaPeR" etc.

They need to stop barracking for nvidia/amd/inflation, grab a dictionary and learn what a deal actually is

  • +7

    You mean 7800xt?

    • +3

      Ha! I wish!

  • +19

    Lol preorder for last gen..

  • +11

GPU prices are going in reverse! WTF is going on?

  • +1

    Still a strong card
Shame the price hasn't come down more by now

  • +2

Haven't had a driver update for my 6800xt for like 3 months now. Don't know what's going with AMD driver support, pretty slack.

    • +6

A new driver should've come out about a week ago? https://community.amd.com/t5/gaming/boost-your-performance-w…

It should already be available to end users.

Today we are releasing our newest AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition™ application driver 23.2.1

      • +1

I just checked my adrenaline automatic driver download and it was on recommended downloads only. Changed it to optional and new driver appeared. Thanks.

    • As MHLoppy just said, a new update came out recently and it gives a BIG performance boost to the 6000 series.

      • +1

Thanks for the heads up. I'm still running 7 month old drivers.

Discontinued GPU, overpriced in the current market. Move on, and aim lower or higher until the market changes.

6900xt for $999 was the sweet spot

      • +1

For this gen. But overall $999 is an absolute ripoff for high end gpu. The 6900xt msrp is actually $999. The 9800 GX2 (the 3090 of it's time) was $599 lol (and x2 cores). The 6900xt almost cost double. People don't care then? Seem to care now? They are parroting their tech media like sheep and aiming their faux outrage at 4080 msrp when the msrp is only a few hundred more than amperes 3080! Same with 4070ti, tech media told them to get angry, despite it being a 3090/ti for $1300 and not $2500-$4000. Gamers are an interesting breed, aloof and clueless. Where was all this outrage before?

It's personally hard for me to buy a gpu when a consumer base of this calibre is dictating the msrp's. They're marked up double because these customers are incredibly weak willed and can't say no, they're addicted to video games and would possibly have withdrawals if they turned their pc's off for 72hrs. They could keep their existing gpu but the compulsion drives them to spend whatever nvidia/amd ask. These types would have something like a 5700xt/1080ti they refuse to hodl with while most run a gtx 1060 mobile. Then you get them trying to bend steams stats to justify their foolish purchase and say "NaH eVeRy1 uSe 3060" desperately trying to include laptops lol

Watching these Gen Z'ers to me is like "150k for a i20 is totally cool and reasonable.. but forget 175k that's outrage!"

          Hi Jimmy,

I agree the prices are outrageous. Problem is availability.

What graphics card right now is a reasonable price? None of them. The market has gone bonkers.

So if I want to enjoy a hobby that I'm deeply invested in unfortunately I have to 'pony up' or miss out. I only have one life, and it's worth living, there's ton of new games that I would like to enjoy and need a new graphics card to do so what do I buy? A 9800GX2 ain't going to cut it.

Yeah gamers haven't seemed to care, they'd rather pay double/triple rather than miss out. I don't like it but it is what it is.

I don't think its a specific generation that's to blame as gamers are from all generations these days, but NVIDIA and AMD have decided to up the prices and gaming public has said 'Yeah no worries I'll pay it' if they didn't then we wouldn't have this problem. Is it due to good marketing or Tech news sites hyping the 'next latest thing'? I believe it's a bit of both, and general gamers have lapped it up.

          • @Viper18: This is $66 more than the 6900xt has been. This is the wrong website for these "deals"'

I personally believe people have more disposable income due to being unable to afford their own home. They're also the mindless "why wait" types driving the prices up on everything. It's a temporary blip on the tail end of a covid/crypto boom. Their rents, groceries, energy costs etc are all going up which lowers demand on luxury items like gpu's. Even without inflation AMD/Nvidia are still limiting supply/delaying gens and still taking advantage of the recent crypto boom.

It all comes down to one thing though. $966 for a 6800xt is absolutely awful. They were $799 in July and it was also a decent model. We don't want to encourage or point people towards high prices. The whole purpose of this website is to do the exact opposite. If it's not $799 don't post it here

  • If you're after a deal on previous gen, I got a Gigabyte 3080 10gb from metrocom ebay store for ~$800 with a year warranty (if that means anything from a reseller). Ex-mining GPU, it looks and functions as brand new. It doesn't look like they have anything above 3070 or 6700xt at the moment but they often dump more GPUs randomly. Beats paying insane money for a 7900xt or 4070ti right now. If you're set on a 6800xt, I was watching this model on amazon and it was under $800 recently, fluctuates a lot

No it wasn’t mate. The 6800 was sub-$800, not the 6800 XT. See camel link above.

      • Camel doesn't track 100% of the price updates, if you're after a cheap item hastily, I certainly wouldn't rely on my camel notifications telling me about it first.

I ordered a pair of brand new speakers a while back and the price that I got them for was quite a bit below the "lowest price" on camel.

    • Not sure why you got so many thumbs down.

Jeff gave an informative post about his opinion on ex-mining GPUs.

  • about $70 less then what I paid 2+ yrs ago….

  • to think i paid 1700 for this card when the prices where stupidly high!

  • someone show me a deal for an 7900 xtx and I will bite!

  • Not a deal. A deal would need to be at least 20% cheaper than this. Was $799 7 months ago in July.

    • Maybe another 6800XT but not this particular model.

  • +1

    shows as $903 for me

    • +1

You can repost as new deal as it is a significant price difference.
