You wonder if this means you either get this or cash rewards but obvs not both?

    • +1

Will be interesting to see if they pay off the click through or linked card. Ripe for double dipping if it can be claimed on card alone.

      • +2

T&C say you must click through.

        • +1

Wonder what process they'll have for "untracked" purchases…

  • Seems broken af.

    Can't link cards.

    • I was able to link mine just now

  • +27

Now that I've seen the list of stores I know that I can ignore MyAmexShop

    • +2

Quite right, there is not one single vendor that I would shop with from that list

      • +1

I mean, it's just launched. It's quite likely that more will be added over time…

        • +2

Its Amex, this is a half arsed effort. I would expect a little more more wow factor at the start to drun up support for it.

          • +2

@tnarg: Amazon Australia was hopeless when it first launched. Hardly any local stock and bonkers high postage prices for anything from overseas. Now it's the best online retail destination in Australia, and I'm not Bezos' biggest fan.

      • And preventing people from FOMO!

      • Boohoo man.

  • Cheddar and this will potentially be a big competition to cashback sites. Good to see amex and commbank enter the cashback buisness.

    • +4

Id prefer stuff just to be cheaper direct and be done with it.

      More PFA players. ….yay!

      • PFA?

        • +1

          Please find attached?

  • +2

Best to wait until they’ve got something better hashed out. Potentially with a statement credit and/or some bonus MR for first time use imo.

  • +2

Now they just need better shops to participate XD
Ahh but of course, gift cards excluded T-T

  • +3

    Has anyone successfully signed up.

Looks like a phishing site lol

    • Signed up and linked card moment's ago.

    • The signup and card linking works flawlessly.

    • Can't find any reference to this website on Amex original website. I'm a little sceptical too.
Great website if it is a phishing site lol.

    • +7

List of stores too uncompelling to be an effective phishing site…

  • -3

haven't used CR for month since shopback has stepped up their game

    • +7

      Relevance to this?

    • +1

      Gee a whole month!

Hope shopback doesn't leak everyone's info again

  • I prefer MR points instead of cashback, can’t find any cashback site here like Rakuten in the US. They allow you to link your Amex membership account and they pay you MR points instead of cash, rate: 1% = 1 additional point.

  • Amex has a similar one in the US Rakuten but that gives extra MR, will be interesting to see how many collaborations they get here.

Cashrewards and Shopback will definitely be their biggest competition.

Fly it's started their version recently too and Qantas is already doing it

I had an issue signing up in Edge, but Chrome worked fine, including sign up, confirming email and linking my card.

Seems like a thrown-together website and not sure I'll use it much, but hope that helps others who care more.

    • Their browser based website for normal membership - eg credit cards - is also ancient and rubbish. The app is tolerable. Hopefully this follows. They and Cheddar need some browser extensions too.

  • +1

Will Amex offer bonus points to sign up in the future? lol

  • +2

Silly question, anyway to verify this is associated with American Express? Can't find anything online.

    Edit: T&Cs state this:
"MyAmexShop is provided to you by American Express Australia Limited and operated and powered by PerformID Pty Ltd. By registering for MyAmexShop, you agree to these Terms of Use."

  • Nice

  • Is cashback capped?

  • +1

Cool! Need to look through in more detail to see how good this will be, but on the surface, looks pretty good! AMEX are just really good when it comes to Membership vs other financial providers.

Kudos AMEX for building such a good brand. Whilst I churn other credit cards to take advantage of QFF points deals, I keep my AMEX because I don't want to be without the AMEX offers and other perks like the $450 Qantas credit each year etc which basically nullifies the annual fee on my card. AMEX is just really good overall as a provider IMO

    • +1

      Was good…was.

They have dropped the ball massively since Covid.

For Plat Edge - Travel credits value has diluted a lot. Statement credits…almost useless outside Sydney.

A 4 night hotel booking was $200 cheaper going direct.

A Jetstar flight was $60 cheaper direct.

Car hire is wayyy more, and no complimentary insurance.

Virgin light fares dont exist, and availability has dropped significantly.

Had mine since 2015…cancelling in 2 months.

      • Wait until you have to deal with local credit card company. Yes they're diluting the benefits, but they are still the easiest credit card company to deal with when you have a problem.

        • Hmm, maybe. Amex (Malaysian call centre) tell you what you want to hear, pretend they can do it, then come back and say they cant help. But at least they do answer.

          • +1

@tunzafun001: I think i usually get the Philippines. I get a "don't worry, we'll make it right". Any charge I've question had been immediately credited/reversed. That's online orders not turning up, lime scooter charging for faulty scooters, Boost sim card not turning up, shop double charging.

Previously trying to do that with latitude or NAB has been a long, arduious process.

        • Easy to deal with?? I had to go to AFCA and lodge official complaint before rectifying a problem with error AMEX made and would not fix. NOT easy to deal with!!

      • Hmmmm I'm finding my experience different. Heading to Asia in November, received an AMEX travel offer (spend $400 get $100 back). Did my homework and saw that the price through AMEX travel was the same as it was on Booking.com, expedia etc and so with the $100 statement credit, I was ahead.

Then received an offer for 'Spend $400 get $100 back' with Hilton. Booked the hotel room for my wedding night in November and saved $100 there too over what I could get on the travel websites. Then I used my $450 Qantas credit with the AMEX ultimate to pay for one of our flights to Bali then finally pulled the trigger on a PS5 for myself as a bit of a treat ;) Saved $100 with the Sony 'Spend $500 get $100 back offer.'

Each to their own I guess, but I'm easily saving $200 - $250 a month on stuff I need to buy anyway right now.

Not to mention also as @M00Cow said, they're easily the best with customer service. I've claimed on the credit card insurance before and was seamless. Have also found their customer service staff to be the best of the financial providers and well ahead of (most of) the big banks (I must say CBA are very good too).

        • Amex use the same aggregators (booking.com etc), so it makes sense they will match.

          • You can use an Amex.promo code within booking.com for another 12% off. Cant do that via Amex travel.

Just do a simple google search of your hotel, then scroll down. You will get a full list of all aggrgator prices+ hotel direct. I can guarantee there will be a cheaper price.

For the 2 reasons above, Amex travel will always be more.

  • After a quick look

    1) no alcohol
    2) no coupons I could see.

  • +3

FWIW, my Norton 360 flags this as an unsafe site.

  • -2

I highly believe this is a phishing site.
looked up who.is and there no info linked to Amex
Server type is Netlify, do you think Amex will use this kind of server?
good luck to those who has "signed up"

    • Ummmm I don't think so. AMEX has sent out communications to customers about it. Its a legit site

      • +1

TBF I only got the email about the new site last night, after OzB tipped me off. It's true the site does look rubbish, but if you're a normal Amex customer, you unfortunately know a website that looks like it's from the 1990s is normal for them. For their special offers, they sometimes share the participating retailers on a PDF you need to download!
