iPad 2 and iPad 1 Prices?

Hey everyone.

My cousins have both the ipad 1 and ipad 2 both black and 16 gb wifi. They want to upgrade so they offered to sell them to me(they want $200 for the ipad 1 or $300 for the ipad 2).

Which one should i get and should i be asking for a lower price or is this worth it?

Thanks :D

p.s: i've never had an ipad (or a tablet) so i don't know anything about them but apparently, there is going to be a new ipad mini or something in September =/

  • was 389 new for the 16gb ipad, personally i would ask myself do i really need one? i fail on this question everyday so my advise is moot.

  • Having the ipad1 from day one, I still use it everyday.

As for value, I think a quick squizz of ebay to see what present prices are might tell you the value of each unit.

The ipad2 will probably mean you will have a longer term for software upgrades, now is that worth $100? Depends on how technical you are and whether you will use the power.

The Ipad2 gives you camera access, albeit, this was a real techy demand for the unit. A little like those who often want to point out a limitation, rather than a real need for many. Its a bit big and bulky for camera use, but that said it is of use.

The ipad2 is also faster. Again depends on what you want to do. I havent found anything that I need the ipad2 for over the ipad1.

Starting at $200, if you really like the ipad, you then upgrade you have "lost" maybe a $100 assuming you sell it on for $100. Then you go for the latest when you can afford it.

This isnt an indepth review, its just an opinion from someone using an ipad1.

    • I agree with Pete, I have iPad 1 too.

Also, getting it for 200 bucks is pretty cheap, it's unlikely u will lose any money on it if u don't like it and try to resell, so it's almost like a free option.

  • iPad 2 will get iOS 6 though, so you'll get the added features there (flyover in Maps, Facebook integration, better emailing for photos and videos etc.) So keep that in mind.

It's also got double the RAM of the original iPad, so Safari tabs will refresh less often. Whether that's worth $100 to you, only you can decide.

The 'iPad Mini' is just speculation at this stage, but I think it's unlikely that they'll unveil a new iPhone, new iPods, and an iPad Mini in September.

    • Having had iPad 1 and now iPad 2 the loading times seem much quicker on iPad 2. Other than that, it's pretty similar. I actually prefer using the iPad 1 physically, I find the volume buttons are easier to utilise on the iPad 1 as you can see them, on iPad 2 you have to feel for them, and depending on which way you are holding the iPad they are inevitably always on the wrong side.

Even so, I'd probably go with the iPad 2, it's likely to hold more of it's value % wise. I always recommend 3G too, you just never know when you might use it. Changing ISP's, power outages, travel etc.

  • I would go with the iPad 2, although at $300 I'd strongly consider upgrading to the 3 just so you get that bit longer life out of it.

I had a iPad 1, and sometimes it felt that Apple and third parties dropped major support for that thing like it was a leper within a year.

After the iPad 2 was released, any updates for the first iPad made it very prone to crashing. It was noticeably slower, which was aggravating. Most of this was probably because of the lower ram, and iOS updates and newer apps were tweaked to take advantage of it. Also thanks to Apple's extended control, you couldn't downgrade the software to an earlier more stable version. Some later updates I think fixed 'some' of the issues.

Still an amazing tablet though, still pretty powerful and brilliant for websurfing. It's just annoying that the Apple seem to be going out of their way to bury it. (iOS 6 isn't even being released for it, as far as I understand).
