Is It Worth Seeing HMS Pinafore?

There is a bit of a Gilbert and Sullivan event happening in Adelaide later this year and they are putting on Pinafore and Pirates, as well as a bunch of other smaller events. Not The Mikado though which is kind of annoying because Mikado is better than Pirates and Pinafore combined. They are all long out of copyright, no royalties need to be paid to the Savoy theatre anymore, so why not put on The Mikado too?!

Anyway I'm going to see Pirates because why not. But I'm not sure if I should see Pinafore. I've listened to recordings of it before and seen a few of the movie versions and it's honestly kind of boring. But at the same time it's so iconic that I feel like I ought to see it live while I can without travelling. If I get a bit of a buzz on then I'm sure I would probably enjoy it.

But what do you guys think, could you sit through an entire performance of HMS Pinafore? Could you convince anyone to actually go with you?

I do like that the only people who have responded to this thread are all Simpsons fans talking about that one scene

    Yes

  • I watched the stage version on DVD recently. As someone who usually hates stage versions of things, I really really enjoyed it. I say go for it, mate.
