430
MARC202312

Thought this was worth a separate post, as last time it went for $79 from Amazon it was quite a popular deal
Been keeping an eye on this so that I can have a low latency couch multiplayer experience with PC connected to TV

I bought one from Amazon yesterday for $84.95 and it's being delivered today. Fortunately (for me) I used Amazon Gift Card purchased from Aldi when they were 10% off and bought those with Coles Mastercards when they were 10% off so my actual cost (allowing for activation fee and Aldi CC surcharge was around $70.85

It's not often that the planets align to give me a great deal but this time they did.

    • I bow down to you, sir, that's actually amazing

Any big difference to use wireless adapter over bluetooth?

    • +8

Reduction in latency. If you're using a Bluetooth mouse and control pad at the same time, then I find performance on both devices drops quite noticeably.

    • +3

Also allows for the controller to vibrate and lower battery usage.

    • +6

To me the biggest difference is actually quick pairing and reliability.

My family has 2 gaming PCs and 3 consoles in our games room. As we don't want to spend $1000+ buying 5 x 4 = 20 controllers just to play multiplayer on each console, we use these receivers and 8bitdo recievers and plug them into whichever PC/console we want to play on next.

Windows bluetooth is a nightmare: you wouldn't believe how much time it wastes trying to pair every controller when you need to switch from Mario Kart 8 on the Switch to Ultimate Chicken Horse on the PC, or whatever.

So being able to just unplug a USB receiver and plug it into another PC/console without re-pairing everything is a big deal. For our scenario, it's actually more important than latency, battery life, or vibration.

On top of that, once your get more than a metre away from your PC, and/or use more than one controller, most bluetooth adapters start to get dropouts and lag. So even some highly-rated bluetooth adapters can fail at normal multiplayer couch gaming.

      • I agree until windows 11; I can connect multiple devices at the same time including speakers and my phone and easy to connect/disconnect as wee. I think it also depends on what type of Bluetooth hardware the PC has.

Bluetooth is not good enough for multiple connections while Wifi uses too much power hence IoT had to create a new way i.e. Zigbee, etc.

Apart from latency, the audio interface on the controller will also work. Potentially controller attachments as well.

Trust me, once you go dongle, you won't come back to BT anymore.

pathetic…. they had 5 in total for sale…

  • Back in stock

  • It's still 84.95 on Amazon. Managed to price match with JB (and they offered $84.00) yesterday.

    • Thanks, I’m gonna PM with jb over online chat for c&c since they never seem to match Amazon in store..

  • +1

LOL they had 5 in stock?

  • Would something like this work on the Samsung Frame? I read somewhere that you can play xbox games without a console (???)

I haven't had a console since my PS2 so am interested once my The Frame TV is installed, I might dabble in a few games to sharpen the motor skillz. Not that I have the time.

  • ripper price!

  • yeah I bought the blue one works great in a model 3 no issues.

Absolutely a steal if bundled with receiver.

Wish there was a good deal on the receiver by itself

IMO better to get the 8bitdo Ultimate (switch version) for PC gaming. Notable advantages include Hall-Effect Sticks (drift free), rechargeable battery, 2.4GHz dongle + bluetooth (2.4GHz mode is Xinput, Bluetooth pretends to be a Switch Pro Controller) and an included charging dock that also houses and powers the 2.4GHz dongle. Also can be customised easily with the 8bitdo software (it has back paddles too).

FYI the '2.4Ghz version' with the xbox face buttons does not have hall effect sticks or bluetooth. I bought the switch version and swapped out the face buttons for the xbox ones for aesthetic purposes (8bitdo sells them on their website).

    • +1

I did not know you could buy the Xbox face buttons!

      • Yes! They ship from Singapore, and were pretty reasonably priced ($8.98 after conversion, paid with PayPal). Just make sure if you do, get the ones specifically for the Ultimate, the ones for the Pro/Pro 2 won't work as they are shaped differently.

    • Can you provide link to the controller you're referring to? I can only see a 2.4ghz or bluetooth version but not both…

      • +1

the bluetooth version also has 2.4ghz dongle, but not vice versa. The one with the switch layout (A to the east, B to the south).
