How Many of The Things You Buy, Do You Actually Put to Use on a Regular Basis?

How many of the things you guys buy after seeing it on OzBargain do you actually use regularly? Let's go for the last 5 items you bought through here.

Personally 2 out of the 5 things I've purchased here recently are just sitting on my desk unused.

Very interested to see the comments!

Bought 2 x of the Amaysim 256gb mini's, sold one used one for a month then sold it. Funny I got $650 for the used one and $600 for the new sealed one. Got both $125 sims refunded too as was a nightmare trying to swap from Telstra business account.

    • How did you get the sims refunded?

D4 sucks? What’s wrong with it?

      • +1

nothing, I thought it was rad

You've already had the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment of scoring a bargain. It almost doesn't matter if you use the item or not.

  • +1

5 X 3 lighting cable packs from the deal mins ago will be used every 2 weeks or so until they get busted . I got me maybe 30 weeks supply from the Hero here . Actually more not counting the purchases past the 5 :)

Well i used my last eneloops by putting them in the baby toys thinking I would be smart and save the money recharging. Wife then gave the baby toys away when baby outgrew them, with the eneloops inside.

Does OzBargain recommended any divorce lawyers?

Y’all not sitting on a throne of sealed ozbargain fueled FOMO impulse buys? 🥲

This is worse than my unplayed steam library of shame

I bought some animal crossing things from the EB sale. I am currently drinking coffee out of the mug I bought. I will use the bag when my old bag breaks. The other things are just for looking pretty.

So don't be sad. Cos 2 out of 5 ain't bad.

    • What's the umbrella like, is it sturdy, does it feel like an adult umbrella? Or like a plastic junk toy?

      • I unfortunately didn't get the umbrella. Too far away.

All just goes straight to the pool room.

    1. Apple gift cards: it'll be used one way or another
    2. Sony A65K: you bet it gets a lot of use
    3. Logitech G Pro X Superlight Wireless: main mouse
    4. Xiaomi Monitor light: it's on all the time. Love it.

Struggled a bit to make this list. I should be more impulsive.

  • +1

only impulse buy I've had lately is Pathfinder on Steam. I tend to keep a list of things I need (but not urgently) and get them when on sale.

Otherwise I've bought Ozito batteries (used), shoes (used), Apple giftcards (will use soon) and pharmacy stuff (using).

Most has been misc cheap food from the Amazon warehouse thread.

    Apart from that

Galaxy A73 5G - used as my main phone
Razer Opus X headphones - daily use
Rusty Yak alcoholic ginger beer on clearance - unfortunately only a few cans left from the many that I bought

    • How is Razer Opus X? Not sure if you have used qc35 and compare against that(mostly around noise cancellation)?

      • +1

I have QC45, ANC is very mild on Razer but for $40 it's acceptable.

If you want ANC, always go Bose. Audio quality, go Sony.

I would say 97% of the stuff I buy is being used regularly. Most of it being things I actually needed.

If I spent more on things "I didn't put to use" I wouldn't be able to afford the occasional thing I "want". Sometimes that thing I want is cheap and only $20, but sometimes it can be a few hundred dollars (e.g. I am currently saving so I can get the Meta Quest 3 on release day).

And are you sure those things on your desk "aren't being used"? For example I bought a $15 watch stand recently to keep a cheap watch I bought on because I can't wear it (I bought it to practice performing mods on). So that stand made the thing I couldn't use most of the time - useful since the watch now functions as a "desk clock".
You could argue that it's something that "isn't being used" but it is performing a function.

I dunno, the churro cereal is alright. It stays crunchy even after being wet with milk for a long time. And I use the leftover milk in my coffee and it makes a cinnamon flavoured coffee. I might start adding cinnamon to my coffee.

    • Whats happening with the Aldi flour situation?

      • +1

Well the flour is in the bin and the bin gets collected tomorrow morning. I need to go to Aldi soon to get coffee beans and because I'm down to maybe two more waffle batches worth of flour I will have to buy more. I guess I'll go to Woolworths or Coles just for flour then because I'll never trust Aldi flour again.

        • You're doing better than me if you can find them (coffee beans at aldi). My store has been out for weeks :(

  • +1

Last 5 things that I've bought that were bargains (and have arrived)

iHerb - melatonin - Using it
Amazon - toilet paper - Not opened it yet but it'll be used soon
Ego Chainsaw - Used half a dozen times, plenty more still to do
Dell monitor - using it right now
6800xt graphics card - using it right now

Though I'll admit there have been times in the past when the answers would have been rather different.

I'm also excluding Epics game giveaways. Technically they are ozbargains but we all know none of us play them.

Like the free e-books that are downloaded but never read… 😣

  • Once i think a fair while back generally i only buy if i need not on a want basis.

  • Lets see…

Woolies GC from extra 5% Deal - Using
IKEA GC from Sb Westpac Deal - Will use soon with the $15 off $50 deal
Bunnings GC from SB Westpac Deal - Using for Reno's
Quilton TP from Amazon - Not open yet but soon
LADDA batteries - Using, Slowly phasing in and replacing older batteris as they die.

I would guess about 2/3rds of my Ozbargain purchases go to regular use. One thing I've learnt is to avoid impulse buys or deals which aren't perfect. I've also started selling or getting rid of older items.

Outside of food and gift cards:

    Frequent use:

    • m700 - in use as a home server
    • SteamDeck - Not from a deal but heavily influenced by Ozbargain deals
    • Momentum 3 wireless headphones
    • Bose Sport earphones - quite like the style

    Less used

    • FiiO BTR5 - kind of wanted one. I've used it a few times at work. I just use it enough to keep it.
    • 5800X3D - nowhere near enough use to justify purchase

    Unused

    • USB-C to ethernet adapter - in a pouch, may be used one day.
  • Used:
    -alba hotsprings pass
    - boost mobile sim

    In use:
    -restaurant choice gift card

    Unused:
    - gel nail polish set just received today
    -free ebooks and steam games

  • Most of the things I get from here are free, and I don't use all of them, especially the games. I like collecting them, but only play a handful of them. The last few things I actually paid for though:

    1. TV use every day.
    2. SSD use every day.
    3. Hair clippers not used yet. Same model as I currently own, and paid $17 for, I got for $5 delivered from Kogan. So when my current one fails, the new one will be used.
  • +1

Toilet paper but only the once though :(

  • Last few items have been giftcards or grocery/medicine, so they have all be used. The last items I bought from OzB was Instant Pot Vortex (use weekly) and Optus tablet (tablet sold but still using data plan and of course bonus of having personal information leaked).

  • Trying to think what the last 5 would have been, I'll have a guess:
1.) Big Drop beer at NQR - awesome deal, I drink beer
2.) KFC Diablo 4 voucher - good fun for 10 hours
3.) San Remo pasta at Aldi - I eat pasta
4.) LG C2 I use for my monitor for work/gaming
5.) no idea but clearly I use (or consume) the things I buy
