What do we buy on eBay these days?

    • I'm curious about this too

      • +4

        Boost Mobile sim

    • +4

For me recently it's basically all tech: powerbank, tiny pc, GPU, phone cases, boost sims

    • +2

      Car parts and accessories

      Office related consumables

    • +3

prepaid envelopes, express satchels… it's basically 8% off my cost of doing business.

      • FYI if you spend more than $50pm on postage cost then you should join MyPost Business, may be even better than 10% off for you (depending on where you post and how my you spend per month)

    • +7

Deals that match the price on the stores website automatically and come with free postage. Any time someone posts something that I'm interested in, I check to see if the store has an ebay presence.

I'm holding less cash in gift cards these days, though. With bank interest at 4%, basically if you don't spend these in 2 years you've gone backwards. Once you factor in the hassles, the risks, and the restrictions, it's more like 6 months. If you can't spend it in that time, better to not get it.

      • It depends on your marginal tax rate and net debt/savings position. For those in the top tax bracket, $100 in the bank earns $4, but $2 goes in tax. Or buy gift cards and save $8, leaving them ahead so long as they spend within 4 years, which is easy.

        • +1

What if there is no tax implications. Like putting $100 in offset account on your personal home loan. It all depends on the time you will leave the gift card sitting idle. Each day it sits there is a day you are losing the opportunity cost. If if you gain $8 by buying discounted gift card and spending today, it is today’s gain of $8. If you use the same card 5years from now the gain is not $8 and depending on the interest rate and time you might even go backwards. That is what he was explaining.

          • @io: PS: I also hold less gift cards now as my offset account interest rate savings is very high compared to 2 years ago.

The land ain’t gonna fill itself!

    • NAS HDDs

    • 2nd hand stuff mainly or retail stores than have an eBay page (supercheap etc)

    • Steam Deck 64GB was sale a few weeks ago for sub $760. LG C2 42" for $995 a few days ago via TGG eBay.
There are still many deals you can find on eBay depending on what you need.

    • There will be some good price items for some people few times a year. example 42 inch LG C2 OLED TV here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/764279

  • How odd. Don't see the upsize even after restarting the app.

    • +1

have to click via the promo tab i found.

      • +2

Ahhh there it is! Pays to read the OP in full.

  • After my second purchase it says deal limited to 1 purchase only?

(This is not related to the max of 3 cards, it's a new criteria to buy all in one transaction. I swear it wasn't there a minute ago, I'm SUPER particular about reading before buying and it's big and red. I would have seen it. Plus, the second transaction did say 8% cashback elsewhere)

    • Ignore it and buy it anyway. You will fail the fourth time tho.

  • +1

Thanks OP, managed to buy 3 with Vanilla Visa cards (which added no problem unlike the Mastercards lately).

    • I could not add my vanilla card :(

      • You have exceeded limit.

        • What is the limit?

        • That's strange, I used my husband SB account he hasn't purchased anything today but the payment asked for visa verification

      • +1

        I ate my vanilla card.
        Would have preferred chocolate.

    • How did you manage that?

When I try to add the vanilla Visa card to ShopBack as a method of payment via the app, it refuses to do it.

Displays a message saying that for security reasons I can’t add the card…

      • Click add a few times. If of no avail, your account may not have enough purchase history to do so. I have heard that the accounts only having giftcard purchases are treated differently to those having enough cookie-based purchases.

        • Tried it a few times, same result, oh well.

What do you mean by cookie-based purchase?

      • That's what I've been getting with the Gift Mastercards, failed every time I tried to add one lately (actually started happening months ago). Idk what makes these cards go through or not. Also my account has plenty of varied purchase history (near $3k lifetime earnings).

    • Card got added but can't check out. Please use another card.

      • I have the same problem

  • Thanks Marquisite, bought 3 :)

  • Always seem to miss these so grabbed 3 (max). Thanks OP!

  • If I buy three giftcards, can I use all three giftcards in one ebay transaction?

    • -4

ebay allows for up to 5 per order

    • Sure can

    • Yea you can, up to 8 eBay gift cards I think in one transaction

  • The promo tab is tiny. Took me a while to find it.

    • This is why you need a mouse or trackpad with an exceedingly high DPI

  • -2

1% extra if using SB funds . 9% close enough to the 10 of the other day so fired.

    • Hey where do you find the 1% extra mentioned?
When I click "use cashback" nothing extra shows up for me?

    • +2

I believe this has expired on the 26th or March

      • Oh no did I miss out on $1 !
End of the world for some .

  • +2

The first thought I had was 'Ah I need to transfer some money into Westpac then' 🐒 I have been trained 🙈 wp.

  • -2

It's 2.5% for me. This seems targeted or may be not showing in my app because I took the last promo of 10% Celebration Swap(not sure).

    • +4

On the app - click on GIFT CARDS then view the PROMOS tab - it says "8% cashback, was 2.5%"

  • Thanks OP, bought another $300 on top of the 10%

  • Am I correct that you're better off getting the 3% on the celebration swap gift card if you need more than $300 (3 gift cards)?
Still trying to get my head around all these various cashback rewards apps.

    • +1

You can use up to 8 gift cards on an order or 7 with a promo code.

So you could use 3 $100 ones with the 8% off, and the remainder can be on the 3% Celebration swap ones.

  • is there a way to load credit onto your account without making a purchase? (once the code is in for a purchase any residual seems to be loaded for future use but I want to load it all on now if possible)

    • +1

      Not on eBay, only Amazon

  • Is it one per person?

    • Up to three.

      • Yeah thanks, just bought two more. You never know if a deal pops up lol

  • Dang…. bought it yesterday…

  • used it to buy OnePlus 11

  • Thanks bought 3!

  • -2

What if next there's a 20% ebay discount, but gift cards not allowed.
Might just wait for the Easter discount.

    • Ebay has always allowed 1 coupon + 7 (or 8?) gift cards in a single transaction. Not sure what you're spooked by.

      • 7+1 total 8 im pretty sure

  • thanks! got 2

  • Won't allow me to purchase, tells me to try again after 24 hours :-/

  • Worked for me about 10 minutes ago~ Finally got around to buying them.

  • Not expired - still works via SB app!

  • +1

is this still on? keeps showing 2.5%

    • +1

@Marcx33 in the gift card section, click on the promos tab at the top of page. You’ll then see the $100 eBay gift card at 8% off :)

  • I think it’s now expired

  • Has this finished? Went to buy one but no eBay option is listed under promos. :(

  • +1

Ah dammit, didn't realise there was going to be a cap on how many :(
