Kindle 4 Wi-Fi 6", $60 Woolworths (QLD Possibly Other States)
This was posted 10 months 16 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
So I've been looking for a Kindle Wifi for the GF. Called around and found out these are being sold at Woolies for $60, which i think is an amazing price. These things cost $79 in the US (with ads), and there's no easy way for Aussies to buy them. Checked around and DSE are currently selling these for $139, so yeah… imo good deal!
I purchased mine from Sunnybank, QLD but I called at least one other store nearby and they confirmed that they have stock and for the same price. As I understand, there's a new kindle with backlighting soon to be announced, which may explain why they're so cheap.
I haven't tested an Officeworks price match, so your mileage may vary.
EDIT: I don't think OW sells kindles, only kobos and some other ones. The cheapest kobo I saw at OW was $97. If you're the market for a kindle, get one now before it gets ozbargained!

joeliuscaesarus on 06/08/2012 - 14:13 ¶nothing at maccarthur mate, called them this morning.
im heading to sherwood this arvo to pick 1 up. apparently they got some in on the weekend!

is on clearance for 111 $ in Safeway WErribee (Vic) the lady said its upto the store's discretion :-(
and they sell quite a few so its not discounted,
The price might say more about local area and their interest in the device, seems to me like a store based price. Wish I could get it here.
King Tightarse on 04/08/2012 - 15:49 ¶Want but cannot find any Wifis in Melbourne inner south east.
Please speak up if you find some for $60
tassie Pete on 04/08/2012 - 20:49 ¶Mine was $60 at Woolworths in Sandy Bay. Came up as that when they scanned it.
systmworks on 04/08/2012 - 16:09 ¶Got one at Robina mall QLD
The WW opposit Coles had sold out but they still had some at the new downstairs WW below BigW (Saturday lunchtime)

I bought this:

Comes in a variety of colours including black and fits perfectly (has a microfiber-ish internal lining).

greenpossum on 04/08/2012 - 17:18 ¶I got one from a local supplier on eBay for about $8 IIRC. Fitted well.

would it have been http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Leather-Case-Cover-Black-Amazon-K... ?
The same one with a light http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120857104797#ht_6104wt_1163 but I think the first is better as a light based on watch batteries is going to be a pain in the ar*e.
+1 votegreenpossum on 04/08/2012 - 19:08 ¶It was this one actually. Less leather, but holds the Kindle fine.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Black-Leather-Case-Flip-Pouch...
I didn't feel that I needed a light as I seldom read where there isn't reading illumination.
greenpossum on 04/08/2012 - 19:47 ¶No problem. I usually carry my Kindle in a bag and the case is mainly to protect the screen. Maybe if your Kindle gets jiggled a lot in transport, more leather would be security against it sliding out.

So I received my Kindle case (from http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Leather-Case-Cover-Black-Amazon-K... ). I'm actually pleasantly surprised that it fits well and seems like nice quality for $8.95 delivered.
The delivery was quick and packed well. I'm very happy with my choice of case and seller.
+1 voteKing Tightarse on 04/08/2012 - 18:39 ¶Well I have called 5 Safeways, no dice.
If anyone bought a spare or wants to to an Oxbargain brother a favor, let me know.
Would PayPal and pay postage etc of course.PM me!
+3 votesFor those that have bought one, you can supposedly convert ePub downloads to Kindle format with this free app http://calibre-ebook.com/ . I haven't tried it yet.

notarebene on 04/08/2012 - 22:47 ¶I was able to reserve one in Gold Coast and couldn't get to it during the day. When I went to collect it in the evening, they told me they sold it to someone else even though it was on hold for me. WTH!

jimbo jones on 15/08/2012 - 19:22 ¶I've only seen it in the North Shore (Sydney Metro) in one store for > $100.
Most stores seem to be sold out of the Kindle with keyboard.
I'm hoping to find something for my niece - Kindle with keyboard.

King Tightarse on 05/08/2012 - 13:13 ¶Any love for a brother from another mother, from another state?
Please PM me if you can get these in QLD or Tassie and are going to buy one of these (buy two!) and I'll send you the funds plus postage.Share the love! :)

King Tightarse on 05/08/2012 - 18:18 ¶Yep had a good look Massari, quite a few but usually go for at least $110+ with postage or ~$80 with insane ($30-$40) postage from the US.
Still hoping a fellow Ozbargainer QLD-er or Tasmanian will step up :)
If they DO, I'll send through the money plus postage via PayPal, no mucking around. Hell I'll even send up an Aussie Post prepaid satchel if that helps.
King Tightarse on 06/08/2012 - 12:12 ¶Haha sounds good.
Still waiting though. Favor works both ways, if anyone helps out I will be happy to send up any Melbourne-only deals that appear.
cameron_les on 06/08/2012 - 15:28 ¶Thanks for the head up. I think i just got the last one there. Thanks to OP as well.

Thanks mate and the favor is coming back your way next time there's special down here that you need.
Cheers!
aussieaubs on 07/08/2012 - 12:57 ¶I read their website - For further information please contact the Woolworths Press Office on (02) 8885 1033.
http://www.woolworths.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/Website/Woolwor...dont know if this helps, but the woman on the phone said each store should price match…
LincolnLenny on 07/08/2012 - 19:00 ¶Picked mine up 15 minutes ago. What an awesome deal. The Woolworths in Wulguru in Townsville still had about 10 left ;)

So I rang woolies and they weren'ts ellin the $60 one.. with 4 buttons, it's excruciating to explain given I'm not a kindle fan and so I'm telling them how many buttons given all they know is it's a 'kindle'.
None of the 4 button, kindle wifis :(.
They said they're doing Kindle touch - wifi for $110, with $20 off the RRP? Per dick smiths website this goes for $185. What do you guys think?
Otherwise they said the Keyboard one is $97? or was it $117… either way what are your thoughts on this guys? I need an urgent response - which is better value for money?
Does the keyboard one only come in handy (having the keyboard) for browsing the web? I thought that free 3g feature got taken out (as I won't be buying a 3g sim card for this one, already got one on my tablet).
That aside.. for performance and battery life would you go the touch or the keyboard? Any pro's/cons? Would've been great to get the $60 kindle wifis though.. cheap and easy…
P.S. Has anyone had issues with the kindle touch being sensitive to accidentally touching/swiping the screen when not intended?
+1 voteOk rang a perth store… no luck.. $111 for the kindle wifi as it's being discontinued so there's a $27 discount supposedly. Persistently tried to get a price match, they spoke to store manager etc but no go. Got directed to another store with larger stock and trying that via the phone now.
THe lady al;so claims there's no price matching around woolworths store, contrary to what other users said.
Ok so I tried this other store (just got off the phone) and THEY claim their kindle is 83.40.. kindle wifi. Some seriously messed up pricing here amongst stores.
They claim its sent from sydney so it's fixed and therefore they can't do anything about price matching to $60. Strange given the first store claimed $111 was their store price, and that each store had 'discretion' based on store quantities to clear them fast.
So now the best options in perth:
$83.40 for a kindle wifi
$110 for a kindle touch
$107 or $127 (can't remember) for the kindle keyboard. What is everyones recommendation for those prices as I haven't used any of those models and have no idea which is best to buy.

I doubt Woolworths sell kindle touch, correct me if I am wrong. I think the Kindle wifi is Kindle 4, which is the one from this post that people can get mostly from East coast. Actually they look quite similar, so maybe that's why the staff get confused. While here in Perth , I think some Woolies sell kindle wifi(or kindle 4, not touch version) either at $83.4 or $111.20. We have both Kindle 4 and Kindle keyboard 3G. I like the light weight of Kindle 4 personally, however, hard to type anything. Another difference is that the Kindle keyboard does the page refresh every page turn(turning black), I don't think it's a big deal but just want to point it out.

Perhaps your right… I wonder where else is doing $83.40 kindle 4's in perth though.. it is hard to find them… hmm maybeI will have to take a trip in to the woolworths that had the 'touch' on sale for $110 to check if they indeed got it wrong and it's the kindle 4 (wifi) they were referring to.
So the kindle 4 does not do the page refresh (turning black) every page like the kindle keyboard??
Is the lower battery life noticeable? As I note that it is about 30 mins reading each day for a month (with wifi off) versus 2 months for the other models. Basically meaning 15 vs 30 hours of reading…
does it get noticeable reading a few hours a day that you have to charge it often? Or no biggie, just set and forget charge it while you sleep/over weekends etc?

Brilliant! I got mine this morning from Woolworths Sandy Bay (TAS); they had ten in stock, then there were nine. Thanks very much for posting this.
