  • Interesting, would have gotten this if i didn't get one before

How do we know it's a real one xD

  • this or CORSAIR MP600 PRO LPX 2TB for ps5?

  • Is overheating actually an issue in a well cooled case?

    • +1

I have a Seagate 530 EK Heasink Gen 4 M.2 drive which I am currently using in my pc. I had to remove the pre-installed heatsink since it wouldn't fit properly.

Mine sits around min 25c and at max gets up to 29c using the stock motherboard thermal pads and heatsink in a well ventilated case.

    • +1

No, even if you watercooled the SSD it won’t give you extra performance. Unless your read/write massive files everyday constantly and have a terrible airflow in your case, the SSD have a decent headroom before thermal throttling at 80-90c. Normal usage is around 50-60c, so you’ll be fine without a heatsink too. They are designed to work hard!

    • I have a 980 pro under the motherboard's heatsink and a regular 980 without. Neither gets very hot, though the one under the heatsink actually gets hotter. It could be because it's my boot drive, or maybe since it's under the GPU.

Some comments did mentioned about the firmware that you have to update if not it will wreck the ssd? Is that correct?

    • Yeah, from memory it’s the 2021 manufactured version 2TB Samsung 980 Pro. Update firmware immediately especially you’re running with OS booting too.

      • Straight plug and play for the PS5? No need to update any firmeare?

        • +1

Update the firmware through a PC before you install it in the PS5. If that’s not possible then I would look at another brand.

    • Yes, install the Samsung magician, if you're using Windows, if not there's a boot disk.

This should come with updated firmware, but the 980Pro 2TB has/had bad issues.

    • +1

My 980 pro 2tb from 21 just bricked itself. Had not heard about the firmware update. Can't update it now.

Was my boot drive. While i can read it on another pc i can't purge it before rma. Fml. Fu samsung

Just another PSA on these to re-iterate that Samsung Australia will not honor any warranty on these drives if they are not purchased directly from an AU based retailer.

    • Isn't Amazon-AU AU-based?

      • +1

I don't know if Amazon Australia is on their approved Australian supplier list. Amazon was not an eligible seller for claiming their recent SSD cashback for example.

      • +1

Amazon AU yes, however, this order is not fulfilled by Amazon Australia. It's from Amazon US. Trust me, Samsung is real picky like that.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm leaning towards sn850x anyway :)

@Lps: Very solid drive, I picked up a 2TB for a friend a little while ago and he said it's great. Don't think you'd be disappointed in picking one of those up.
