Has anyone owned both good mechanical keyboard and this keyboard? What's the experience of this keyboard comparing to a good mechanical keyboard. Thanks

    • +1

im wondering if anyone has this kb, and the MX Mechanical, and can provide any input

      • +1

I have both this and MX Mechanical - I prefer the MX Mechanical keyboard as I do a lot of typing for my work - I have the Tactile Quiet version and it's not as noisy or clunky as a full gaming mechnical keyboard. It's definitely built for the office/wfh environment. The key travel on the MX Keys Advanced felt more like a good laptop keyboard, albeit still a very good keyboard. Work provided the MX Keys Advanced and I bought the MX Mechanical for home use - I did a swap instead because I did more typing stuff at work and more content consumption at home. The MX Mechnical is more expensive at around $199 from Amazon.

      • I have both (MX Keys and MX Mechanical) and paired with my MX 3S mouse I purchased recently.
It's good but I did miss the mechanical feel from my old cheap Alienware non-RGB keyboard I purchased years back. I ended up choosing MX Mechanical.

I would recommend the mechanical keyboard as it comes with a more recent Bolt USB adapter. If you are MX 3S owner you know what I mean - the MX Keys comes with their old Unify receiver but 3S now has bolt adapter. Bolt receiver is advertised as better and more secure according to Logitech, who knows lol

      • I have MX keys, I run a lot of calculations for work and use the num pad a ton - the most annoying feature for me is the lock button on the top right hand corner.

I can't install logitech software to disable it due to work policies and every now and again I'll hit it instead of "-" when I'm working, it'll lock me out and I'll need to log back in again. That button is a huge pain in the ass.

Otherwise, it's not a bad keyboard but I'd probably prefer something else in the future.

its not like a mechanical keyboard in regards to feel.

But its still solid and nicely weight yet slim profile keyboard.
I have it and prefer it for work as its nice and quiet and easy to recharge via USB C.

But for gaming i prefer a proper sized mechanical kb as its a bit smaller and cramped in regards to spacing of the keys and height.

So it depends on your application.

    • K6, Magic keyboard and the MX keys Mini.

In order of preference -> Mech, Magic keyboard and then the MX Keys Mini. I don't like the texture of the keys. it's a good keyboard, it just happens to be my least favourite.

    • I like brown switches (I know, kill me) for my mech at home, but find this low-profile excels at the office. While copy across devices isn't something I use often, I adore the quick switch capability for being able to type on my phone at my desk; pair this with the equiv mouse and you've got a full phone pc while being a diligent worker.

    • I have an MX Keys (Mac version) at the office and a Roccat Vulcan Pro with optical switches at home. The Vulcan Pro is something I can easily type on all the day long and it just feels great, but it is limited to just one computer at a time. Like others have said, the MX Keys types like a really good quality laptop 'board, it's much quieter than even el-cheapo membrane keyboards, it's portable, and has a reasonably solid build. I like how it has multiple connection options and can support up to three devices with easy switching between them (a Godsend when I'm testing multiple computers in the office). I didn't take long to get used to the keys and have no issues with touch-typing. I did have an issue with battery life at first but I've now turned off backlighting and it's helped a lot.

I wouldn't go as far to say there's a direct comparison between MX Keys and a good mechanical 'board, but I certainly can't fault it, either. If you're looking for a super-solid build, ultimate comfort, and blinken-lighten bling then get a decent mechanical. If you just want an excellent typing keyboard that has the benefit of also being wireless and portable then go with MX Keys - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    I have this - it's great for work/productivity!

    • Indeed, I recently picked it up for $119 off ebay. A really solid keyboard. Using it for WFH purposes.

  • +1

I went back to this from Keychron low profile mech keyboard.

This is just so much quitter, and much better for typing, and the battery last a lot longer.

    • it's not great for gaming, N-key rollover is very limited over Bluetooth.

      • +1

That’s why you use the Unify receiver

  • +3

    This + MX Master 3 chef's kiss

    • Add on top you plug the dongle to a monitor with USB C and you basically have a universal combo which is Mac/Windows/iOS friendly for anyone who uses your monitor set up :)

    • +4

This + MX Vertical Greta Friedman's kiss

      • +1

Wouldn't you require two different dongles though as one is Unifying receiver and the other is the Bolt receiver?

Using this keyboard at home for over a year now, both for coding on a Mac and gaming on a Windows PC.

    PROs:

    • The keyboard is nice and flat, weighs much more than most keyboards and feels very robust, with very little bending.

    • The latency over Bluetooth is amazingly small. I even regularly use it for some real time gaming with no noticeable input lag at all. (Note that the often paired MX Master mouse is having a huge lag that you will notice even on everyday tasks. They seem to be using different receivers.)

    • One great feature of the keyboard is that you can charge it (USB C) from any power source, as the power connection is unrelated to the data connection. You can even leave it plugged in.

    • It's also quite forgiving with spills. My partner once spilled some coke over it and after some cleaning under the keycaps, it's back to normal.

    CONs:

    • Keys are not as snappy as on some mechanical keyboards or even the Apple magic keyboard, but you get used to it. They DO get a bit more loose with time.

    • On MacOS I sometimes have an issue where the keyboard connects with some kind of power saving mode and goes to sleep after a minute without button presses. From that state, it takes a few seconds before it registers new key presses. You can't tell whether this mode is on anywhere, from what I can tell, but the delay is noticeable and annoying. Turning the keyboard off and on using the hardware switch usually helps to reconnect it using the more snappy mode.

I feel sick when I see the MX Keys .. I hate my MX Keys Mini

    1. Backlight is terribly annoying as it always goes off on the dark .. easier not to use backlight

    2. Keys feel nice but actually bad typing experience .. hard to pinpoint just always making errors.

      1. It has a proximity sensor which activates the backlight when your hands are moved above it. Shouldn't be an issue.
      • +3

Owner here, the backlight is dumb. Turning on randomly and need to plug-in to recharge every week or so.

        • I've had one for over a year. You should turn the switch off to save power regardless.

          • +1

@Techie4066: Yeah, I did it once and it forgot. Easy enough to plug in but its a really bad detector of hands.

      • Sure .. if you don't mind the delay whilst waiting for the light to turn on so you can see the keys .. the delay to productivity is ridiculously annoying

      1. If backlight was always on, battery would only last a few days. It has a proximity sensor which works quite well and light it up when you need it
      2. To me it feels great to type on (actually satisfying) and I never do mistakes
      • At least the keyboard would be usable if the backlight stayed on.

  • +3

Highly recommend for this price range. I have been using this keyboard for last 5-6 months now. 9/10 for productivity đź‘Ť

The best part is switching effortlessly between three devices - work laptop, home pc and a tablet.

The keys are nice and perfectly shaped for fingertips.

USB-C charging + backlit keys with proximity sensor.

Looks thin & elegant but its still 800+gram in weight so it won't move around even on a normal office desk.

    downside:

No incline settings, so you can't adjust the angle

No wrist rest but I never felt like using one because the keyboard is already low profile.

  • how does it compare with HP 975 Dual-Mode Wireless Keyboard which is 99% same and can be had for much less?

  • MX Master Key, MX Mechanical, Nuphy 60, Keychron K3 pro, Logitech G502 Pro…Nuphy is best among these and you can't change my mind.

    • I'm planning to get Nuphy for tons of typing (programming /documentation), what keys did you get? I'm thinking Baby Kangaroos.

      • I haven't tried baby kangaroos yet. I am in love with low profile ones. For your use case, typing would be nice on Halo 75 with Baby kangaroos or Racoon would be nice. My hands don't feel comfortable for long time on normal profile. Low profile saves my wrist and just feel much relaxing for long days.

  • Don't do it. I had this keyboard, whilst it was okish, it only lasted a couple of months past warranty. It's not a performance keyboard. I contacted Logitech, told them it was a couple months past warranty and would not charge. The first contact led me along to believe they would replace it anyway. Further down the process they pushed back and told me it was out of warranty, infuriated me. Poor customer service, clearly didn't read my initial query, wasted my time giving them serial #'s etc. Don't do it, junk.

    • What was the problem? Just stopped working?

    • ACL?

    • Genuine question: do you suggest not to buy this keyboard because it failed after 24+ 'a couple of months' usage? or because Logitech didn't replace it after 'their' warranty period?

if it's the first part - it sucks but that could have happened with any other product or brand.

On second part - I am no law expert but definitely know that Australian Law doesn't add a specific time when the consumer guarantees no longer apply to products. So please explore ACL / ACCC path.

      • I smell a bot, nobody labels keyboards as "performance".

        • Yeah but that conclusion "Don't do it, junk." got me LOL.

  • -2

A bot, yeah right. Smell ya socks buddy. As I said wouldn't charge at all. Was considering buying a new battery but too risky as it just stopped overnight, no power at all, no charging light. Don't buy it as it's not a quality product and the keyboard didn't perform (for you Smelly), just not that nice a key action. If you want to hammer at the keys or type at fast pace, this is not for you. Did consider the consumer law path but couldn't be bothered. Telling ya, don't get it, you've been warned.

Was considering buying a new battery but too risky as it just stopped overnight, no power at all, no charging light.

what is the risk factor because it stopped overnight?

There are many articles and videos on how to do it.

"Don't buy it as it's not a quality product and the keyboard didn't perform (for you Smelly), just not that nice a key action. If you want to hammer at the keys or type at fast pace, this is not for you"

I guess you should have returned it in a few days if you don't like the key action or typing speed, instead of using it for 24+ months until the battery is dead.

Sorry mate, your story doesn't add up. Enough internet for today :) Have a nice day folks.

      • Doesn't add up DAT? Another keyboard expert (maybe Guru, more likely narcissist) . Yes, easy enough to swap out the battery, but like I said and you clearly didn't read was I wasn't prepared to buy a battery if it's dead anyhow. As it just stopped with no low battery warning tells me it's some other short. I didn't buy the keyboard for the action, I tolerated it, the keyboard was ok. Don't know where you live but returning items is a pain in backside for myself. It did the intended purpose. I'm mostly pissed that Logitech deceived me that they were going to replace it anyhow, where I didn't really expect it.

  • +2

Great keyboard if you're affter a laptop feel. I do have some issues with it though and have recently returned to the G915 even though it is noisier and not so good for calls.

The primary issue is the function key row -

    • the F12 key is not the last key in the row, that honour is instead bestowed to the critical function that is 'volume up'
    • all function keys pull double time with media controls and other important functions. Not a deal breaker and something other keyboards have however -
    • the F keys are small in size except for the escape key which is extra large. Out of all the keys, this is the one that needs to be easy to press?

Also a smaller gripe, for a premium keyboard it would be nice if the customisation didn't live in the software. If you take advantage of this flexibility Logi Options has to offer it will be gone the second you use one of the three available connections with a neutral device. Depending on your workflow the muscle memory will take a pounding.

Good keyboard, but I really wish a version existed that had an extra row for media functions etc on top.

  • Won't post to Darwin……….. :(

Edit: got JB online chat to price match Amazons $129 and applied my birthday month JB perks coupon.

    $119 all up

    • +1

Hopefully you didn't buy it at that price .. the backlight is ridiculously annoying .. and constant on/off with poor and slow hand detection makes this unusable in dim lighting.

  • Fantastic keyboard for office / general duties.

    So comfortable to type on.
