  • Adding 200 gets you the 4070. But still 8gb.

    Still an issue with paying this much for such a low amount of VRAM. But for the sake of reference, from Jarrods videos:

    3060 vs 4060 = factoring in other hardware differences, at 1080p the 4060 was roughly an averaged 15% gain in performance compared to the 3060. At 1440p its around 13%.

    3070 ti vs 4070 = factoring in other hardware differences the 4070 had roughly 7% increased performance averaged out across different titles at 1080p and 3% at 1440p

    Both the 4060/4070 perform much better if we factor in frame generation - though only a limited pool of games support it.

    So yea, not exactly great value for money.

    • So if you've got a legion 5 pro with a 3070, the legion 5 pros with a 4060 would potentially be a downgrade gpu wise?

      • Provided they allow for the same power draw, there will be performance gains going from the 3070 (non TI) -> 4060, though from what I've seen they vary to about maybe 10-15% for both 1080p and 1440p at roughly the exact same specs for the rest of your build, which is certainly not great value by any stretch of the meaning given the current asking price for 4000 series laptops.

        Would not recommend upgrading from a 3000 series laptop to a 4000 series laptop at all, unless maybe you go for at least a 4080 (and even then, its questionable if you'd make the purchase in this market0.

    Wow 4070 is really crap

    • because nvidia messed the 4070 bad this gen, minimal performance gain over both 4060 and 3070ti esp with the latter, without frame generation its low single digits percent faster at most

      • I think this may actually be deliberate on nVidia’s part. In that they are comparing how many people are willing to spring for the new frame gen tech when it’s clearly no better than prev gen in raw power. Intel used to do this, with very incremental gains but big marketing drawcards that fool plenty of unfamiliar buyers. Thank god AMD finally lit a fire under intel’s bum.

    As per @gachagamer, the value proposition that this machine offer is questionable at best given the pricing of 3070/ti legion 5 pro deals. These lower tiered 40 gens really arent showing any significant gains without DLSS3 and FG which makes it a hard sell to most folks.

    One might attribute the hike in price due to updated cpu, that maybe folks who needed more cpu power will appreciate this deal, but here is a major problem with the 13700HX - it is not a true 13th gen but a refreshed 12950HX, this means while the performance is still great as its the top tier chip from last gen, but so is the wattage demand and need for great cooling - and while I have no trouble believing l5ps cooling is good enough for the normal -H chips, its not really good enough for the 12950HX - such a chip is only mounted on laptops with far more thermal headroom, like the Legion 7i & Scar 17 SE with those huge vapor chamber, or the GT77 with the huge heatsinks.

    • So where did you get your info regarding the "refresh" bit the P-Core L2 cache configuration is different on the i7-13700HX (2MB) vs i9-12950HX (1.25MB)

      The E-core in 13th gen are Gracemont, so no change in specs.

      AFAIK, as I have been able to tell they are Raptor lake cores, just using the i9-12950HX core count and config.

      • They are definitely not rapterlake cores. I based my info off the myriad chinese reviews up as they get their machine much earlier than other regions. techpowerups info must be mislabelled.

        As it stands, only the 139_0HX, the 13850HX and 13650HX uses updated architecture. Its also why 13700HX machines have seen dips now in the chinese market as reviews have shown that below 50w the 13700HX doesnt even beat out the H45 13700H multicore wise (and at all wattages loses out on single core) due to the former being a refreshed alder lake. Most machines simply cant sustain the wattage the 13700HX needs to be competitive against comparable chips, esp once you take new amd dragon range chips into the mix, which are more power efficient than rapterlake.

      • Hi mate, just wanted to update you on some info - Im been checking back at 13700HX reviews and spec sheet, it seems like that there are two 13700HX skus - c0 stepping and b0 stepping models - the latter of which should be using the newer architecture - however, we have yet to see b0 13700hx from any brand - lenovo, dell, hp - everyone is using the lower end c0 stepping models.
