Calling out Sony eBay and their pathetic customer service

UPDATE 4/4: I contacted PFM Corp and they have kindly bumped up my item to go out on tomorrow's run, which I am very thankful for. I asked Sony to contact them and asked this and they refused. Just further highlighting how bad Sony's post-sales support is.

Short rant warning.

I purchased the Sony A80J when the deal was listed on OzBargain for $1345. I saved $150 on the listed price at JB Hifi. The cost of doing this is that I am having to wait 3.5 weeks to have it delivered! 3.5 weeks!! If it was covid and we still had massive delays across the courier network, I would understand, but we don't and I have had multiple other large items ordered and delivered in the time I've been waiting for the TV. I could buy a stand up desk today and have it delivered by the end of the week. And of course, others who purchased during the sale have got theirs and others have not.

There was a screw up with consigning the item, Sony of course blame the couriers, the couriers blame Sony. It is now with PFM Corp sitting in their depot (has done since 30/3) and is not being delivered until 11/4, and this is after Sony told me that had organised an expedited delivery. What bs. I've called Sony multiple times and just get lame standard answers, every time starting with "i can understand what you're feeling…" and then some excuse that there's nothing they can do. They can choose a decent courier is what they can do!

I won't be ordering through their eBay store again, I guess there is something to be said for walking into a store and taking the thing you bought home with you in that moment, and I only have myself to blame for that, but lesson learned I guess.

        Are you guys O K ?

    • Next post from OP, screen arrived damaged and they won't refund me 😅

      • Please don't speak that into being!

Their lack of a manual provision, sucks too. It's either a 142 page online version, or you print that out a page at a time. No paper or PDF. Sony could easily make the online available in PDF. What cheap skates. Must have saved about .000000000000002 cents per unit .

Oh but be grateful APost doesn't get the gig. Have you seen Pet Detective entree?

  • What date did you purchase the item and what was the ETA given when you purchased through Ebay?

    • 18/3, don’t remember if it gave an estimated delivery time. Others who purchased the same deal might know.

There's always the risk of delays in anything that needs to be delivered vs getting it directly from the a physical shop.

It is now with PFM Corp sitting in their depot (has done since 30/3)..

We did have a weekend yesterday and the day before and another four-day weekend this week.

    • I get that, but 3.5 weeks is too much. I purchased on the 18/3 so it’s the cumulative impact of Sony’s screwups. They would have still been telling me it was with the couriers lien they were doing except that I called the couriers and found out neithe rod them had it. I’m not sure Sony even dispatched it when they orgiginally said they did. So yeah the courier has had it since Friday, should be on a truck for delivery tomorrow not next Tuesday.

  • The parcel is already with the courier. They can't get someone else to take the parcel lol.

Courier companies are pretty bad generally. Although, sendle pick up service is quite handy. They also package it up for you.

    • Exactly.

  • Throw the assembly instructions in the bin, and use intuition to assemble it. Just don't handle the actual screen during assembly etc.

  • Had some similar delivery issues from Sony eBay and Sony store web site. They were via Tolls and DHL. Tracking showed they were stuck in certain depot for along time. One item had out for delivery status but never got delivered. Asked Sony, they said will follow up but took a long time between responses, contacted Tolls and DHL, never ever got a response from these courier companies. In the end Sony said they were lost in transit, resent via Australia Post, got them within a few days. I am blaming Tolls and DHL, these companies S-U-C-K at delivery and responding to customer!

    • It seems from your experience that they 'steal' more than they suck. No surprise. It's time the govt made all ppl who handle mail (everyone in the chain of custody) have an annual police clearance check and a public register (with suitable ID protection for the individuals) so we can at least have some confidence there is an accountable oversight.
eg; Cannot believe when tech theft is so rife, that we also still have obvious envelopes with passports and credit cards dragged around the country by faceless contractors , while ISPs with (faceless strangers accessing our entire lives, from OS call centres) demand our entire identity catalogue and data to gain a basic service.

    • This is exactly my experience. Except when I called PFM Corp, they threw Sony u der the bus and says it happens a lot that Sony give dispatch notice and consignment numbers when they haven’t actually handed it over to the courier. Don’t know how that happens, but won’t do this again that’s for sure.

  • FWIW I ordered a refurb and had a pleasant experience - DHL delivered one week early, not a mark on it, works fine. Did have to resort to YouTube to confirm how to put the legs on

  • What ! Sony has customer service in Australia ?

  • +1

Ordered from Sony eBay, waited a week and didn’t arrive so I bought it up with eBay themselves, Sony never responded so I got auto refunded and it arrived 2 weeks later.

    • Lol did they say anything after it arrived ?

    • Damn that's amazon tier.

  • We bought a 75x90j from Sony eBay a year ago. It took two months to arrive and this was only after numerous phone calls and complaints. They sent a broken tv with what looked like a pitch fork has been put through the panel. The replacement took a further six weeks. We basically had no tv for three months last winter. Stay clear I say. Good product but appalling customer service. About as good as Samsung Australia who also are often very slow in delivering and love to upgrade their systems at their peak periods just to maximise delays.
