  • This sounds like a really good deal. Wonder what’s the catch

Weird combo. Only servers have more than 4 slots, and they’d need ECC.

Are they even matched, or is this just a bulk pack?

    • Seem to be an older kit from when some motherboards had 8 slots.

    • My board has 6, and works well in triple channel.

It's DDR4 so probably intended for older HEDT systems.

    • Threadripper can optionally have ECC or not. Have 8 slots.

    • Custom System builders who don't have access to discounts e.g. I mainly support Pharmacies but occasionally they need something specific or perhaps one of their staff what's a custom build. I always buy this kind of thing when cheap along with SSDs etc as I know they'll be used at some point…

    Q. Why did the RAM chip refuse to work with a CPU from a different architecture?
    A. Because it couldn't bear the thought of an endian conflict

    • +3

I got a neg vote. I 'll explain the joke at the risk of it being unfunny, as jokes tend to be once explained…

In computer systems, different CPUs can have different architectures, which refers to the way that the CPU is designed and how it processes data. One aspect of architecture that can differ between CPUs is the byte ordering, which determines the order in which multi-byte data items are stored in memory.

Big-endian and little-endian byte orderings are two common types of byte orderings. If a RAM chip and CPU have different byte orderings, then an endian conflict can occur, which can lead to errors in data exchange.

In the joke, the RAM chip refuses to work with a CPU from a different architecture because it doesn't want to risk encountering an endian conflict. The joke plays on the idea that the RAM chip has a personal preference or aversion to the thought of encountering such a conflict, as if it were a sentient being capable of making decisions based on its own preferences.

It was a swing & a miss unfortunately.

I guess the joke was like a NP-complete problem that we couldn't solve in polynomial time. But we'll use approximation algorithms to find a near-optimal solution for maximum laughs!

I like your funny words, magic man

Is this enough to play CS:GO 2 at 1440p?

    • +2

It's enough to host 1,440 CS:GO servers (give or take 1,000).

Will I get more frames with 128gb?

  • +3

that's like 3 tabs in chrome.

  • Perfect kit for compiling shaders on 'The last of us' PC.
