iPhone Upgrade Recommendation from iPhone 6 Plus

Time to upgrade my iPhone 6 plus. I want a lightweight phone with large screen and not too expensive. Around $600-$800. Suggestions please.

What did you come up with when you searched online/instore?

    • A good used iPhone 8 plus is a great choice.
You can buy them from $180 to $220
Much better camera and you have zoom camera as well
      So much more flexibility

If you go for a used phone XR you get a much better phone and overall with much better camera but single lens only.selling from about $220 - $300

If you want a brand new iphone the iPhone SE 2020 or SE 2022 are a great choice and well within your budget

      • I don't think OP has an iPhone 6 Plus.

I reckon OP lied and has an android phone ….. possibly a Samsung and if they don't then they should get one.

        • What makes you say that?

          • @CrispyChrispy: It's rather obvious. Couldn't you tell?

Well, it depends entirely on what you consider to be not too expensive. What is your actual $ budget? For some, not too expensive is $300. For others $2000 is not too expensive. Pointless asking without even vague guidelines.

    • Read the post again bro !

  • Since 2017, every model iPhone from X onwards (except the 12/13 Mini) has a bigger display than a 6 Plus - so plenty of choice for your budget, assuming you're ok with pre-owned?

  • Mostly everyone gets the base model Iphone 13/14 unless you want the latest features and the better camera. I would go for the iphone 13 since the features are pretty much the same specs.

    iphone 13 128gb $1299

    iphone 14 128gb $1399

    • Mostly everyone gets the base model Iphone 13/14

14 Pro Max has actually been selling better than the base 14 if I recall the data correctly from here

    • Twice the price of OPs budget

The only NEW iPhone that sits inside Ops budget is the iPhone SE 3 (2022)

It fits nearly every criteria except "large screen"

  • iphone 12 64gb $1049

    • I would not recommend 'upgrading' to a 64GB phone in 2023.

      • Fair enough but my last iPad was 256GB and my current one that I just bought is 64GB. I wasnt using the storage so I wasted my money paying for it.

      • Yes you are right, always get double what you 'think' you need.

      • i have learnt that using cloud storage is the way to go these days.

i have a TCL 256gb android and only using roughly 70gb but all backed up to cloud

  • Are you looking to purchase brand new or refurbished?

It’s hard to get a new iPhone with that price range. I’d recommend moving to Samsung, otherwise:

    1. iPhone 13 128gb ~$900 on reebeelo (pre-owned)
    2. iPhone 12 (new) 64GB $1049

There was also a deal with iPhone 12 mini if you managed to get it it’s at very good value.

    • I had an iPhone 12 mini, the screen is too small imo and the battery life is atrocious

  • officeworks, or other stores, have iphone 11's, either 64gb $677 or 128gb $757 which seem to be one of the few NEW iphones that suit your budget. According to google, this model will get updates for at least another 2 years if that matters to you. It has a 6.1 inch screen which is bigger than your current phone with 5.5 inches, if that suits your size requirement. battery life seems to be better than the 6 plus from what gsmarena seems to have tested

alternatively, apple refurbs seem to have a good reputation, and there is currently an iphone 12 pro max 256gb on sale for $839, down from $1099, with a new battery and warranty. Probably the better choice with a 6.7 inch screen as well, much bigger than the 11. Matches budget and has updates for ages down the track

    • I think those are US prices - Apple Australia doesn't currently sell refurbished iPhones

      • oh my bad thought it would automatically detect au as the region. Disregard the second paragraph, anyone who reads

        • +1

yeah with apple gotta always check if there's a /au/ after apple.com

from an iPhone 6? that would be anything, lol. anything is an upgrade from that. i would look into a 5G phone if you aren't in the middle of no where since it probably won't be available in regional areas.

  • The iPhone SE is the logical replacement, very similar to what you have but faster and better.

I like FaceID and would recommend it, but prices go up a lot.

The iPhone 13 is the cpu as the SE so might be an option but starts at $1229, the iPhone 14 starts at $1399.

I suspect there will be plenty of second hand 13s and 14s on the market in a few months when the next annual cycle comes around (September) if you can wait until then.

Otherwise, check out refurb places like this (not a recommendation for this joint, just the first google hit)

I had an iPhone 8 for about the last 4 years, replaced the screen twice.
I was tossing up between a new Gen 3 SE or 13 mini,
I compared them both in my hands and went for the 13, I was actually prepared to stick with the home button and Touch ID etc,
but the 13 is all screen and seems bigger while not appearing to be much bigger in dimensions.
    Its a work of art.
Just looking at the photos I took with the 8 transferred to the 13 I was in awe.

New SE or an 11 on that budget.

You’ll be amazed at all your shit mysteriously working properly.
