I just got the camelcamelcamel alert for a price drop on my favorite IPS monitor. This is a decent price however not the cheapest it has been, which was $645 (if you exclude the price error by Kogan). I would recommend this monitor if you use your computer for productivity purposes. The refresh rate is 60 Hz.

This is not a gaming monitor, it's a really nice ergonomic business productivity monitor. The main reason you would get this one is because it has a very good monitor arm that is not sold by LG separately. If it was sold separately, it would probably cost around $200

LG Ultrafine Ergo 32UN88A 4K UHD IPS Monitor 31.5 Inch 3840 x 2160 IPS Display, DCI-P3 95%, HDR10, USB Type-C, Ergonomic Stand, AMD Freesync, White

Similar to the LG 32UN880-B except this one has a white back. As far as I can tell, there are no other major differences between the two models.

Also available Officeworks for $697 and at Harvey Norman for $698

Was looking for a 4k+ monitor, and just couldn't bite the bullet on this at $899, but at $697 I'm going to have to.

The stand itself would probably be worth $200 if it was a standalone product.

Amazing. I literally had the tab open from the weekend, about to buy at the previous price ($849).
Saw this deal, refreshed tab, new price. Bought! Thank you. :)

this or ultrawide for comp sci student?

    • You wouldn't get an ultrawide with comparable screen quality for anywhere near this price, looking at easily $1,000 plus

    • Id still recommend ultrawide and at this price you can get Gigabyte M34WQ which has IPS flat screen.

I work in IT and actually used the Gigabyte for work until i upgraded to AW38 just because of the Muzeeb saga.

      • +1

        what's the Muzeeb saga?

      • +1

I am a comp sci student and use the M34WQ. It's great, especially for the price, but, I will say that I prefer it for gaming than work. There is a coating on the screen that I find a bit nasty, and since it's not curved, it's a bit awkward when viewing content at the sides. I usually work with my screen split into 3rds, and I do wish it was curved and the coating was less aggressive.

This isn't really noticeable when gaming, which is where I thought curved would give the biggest advantage. But I find I don't particularly care if a screen is curved or not when gaming. But when I have vs code spread across the display with 3 editors open, it's a bit hard to read content on the far left and right, plus the coating creates some weird patterns if the lighting isn't ideal.

Just food for thought, I still love the monitor, but I wish I had gone with a curved option personally. But it's hard to beat the price, especially with the kvm functionality and built in speakers (surprisingly helpful!).

        • Thanks, that is helpful. I'm running a 34" Xiaomi which I find great for business use, but I was wondering if a comp sci student would need more vertical space and more resolution to support more text on screen.

This monitor. I have a Dell S3422DWG + 27" QHD monitor but I'm here on this page because I'm considering going back to a 2*16:9 setup because 34" UW is simply an awkward size. If you're running a 4K screen right now, change it to a custom resolution of 3440*1440 for a while and see what I mean.
      .
      Aspect Ratio

      • If you make a web browser window full screen loads of websites are ungraciously stretched/spaced because they are made for 16:9 (or similar)
      • If you make a web browser window half screen you get a cramped/crowded experience (e.g. web page left side, code/document right side)
      • If you make the window 2/3 of the screen but then you're left with a little sliver of useless desktop space
      • If a website is left-aligned you end up looking at the leftmost 3rd of the screen (and get a sore neck), and the two thirds on the right are padding
      • If a website is centre-aligned (comfortable neck position) the left and right thirds are padding (OzB right now is case and point)
      • Video is never "full screen"

      Physical

      • It's big enough to make it awkward to fit another monitor next to it on your desk (horizontally, I tried portrait and it's no fun either).

It would be good for video games but I wouldn't know because I'm a boring old man (30 yo) who doesn't play games anymore. Just give me the boring practical regular monitor and put me out of my misery already… πŸ˜’

My advice would be to get either 2*16:9 or if you can afford it get a 49" DQHD (32:9). Trust me, just stick with regular aspect ratios or multiples of regular ratios.

  • Is this rotatable at a 360 degree angle?

There were some negative reviews says the screen is not the black. That is why I pass it and go for Dell ultrasharp.

    • You may be disappointed in Dell Ultrasharps post 2020. Their quality has gone down.

I have this model for a few months now, got it mainly for the USB-C port for single cable video/charging for my work MacBook. A decent upgrade from the Dell 27" work gave me. This is not a gaming monitor (only 60Hz) but it does have Freesync, which is still handy since my gaming PC is barely hitting 60FPS on 4K anyway. The HDR10 is pretty useless but the colour is good enough for me to do UI work. The stand that everyone raves on about is just 'fine' in my opinion, the main shaft has a cable channel but it's too narrow to fit anything more than 4 cables. Anecdotally, my screen has a single dead pixel, but I've come to live with it. Overall a 7/10, won't need to upgrade until mini-LED or OLED screen comes down in price.

  • I wish they made 27inch of this model made available in Australia

Price match office works for another 5% off

  • Is there much difference between this and the 5k 27” Ultrafine that Apple sells? Obviously a smaller size, but it retails for $2000?

  • Why can't you game on it? I've gamed on IPS monitors before no problem.

    • No reason why you can't. I'm stating that the monitor is not made for games as it has a refresh rate that many gamers consider bad (60 Hz).

      • 60Hz has been the gold standard for decades.

        • Yeah, I'm aware however comments on previous deals compare this monitor to gaming monitors so I felt it was important to explicitly mention that this monitor wasn't intended to be a gaming monitor (even though you can use it for that).

  • New to the desktop scene and looking to pair up my Mac Mini pro2 - Im deciding if I should grab 1 or 2 of these or the Dell Ultrasharp U4919DW - anyone have any feedback or worked with the following monitors. Using for mostly productivity if it is good for games its a bonus but not it will not play into my decision. Thanks

    • I only have one 32UN88A and use it for productivity purposes. I would like to eventually get another although I am thinking of switching to E-Ink to save my eyes. I think two of these (provided you have the desk space) would be nice as you could have one monitor in portrait and the other in landscape. The Dell you mentioned is 1440p which is fine for 27" but is of course lower resolution compared to this monitor. You also get more inputs and USB ports with the Dell. Both monitors are 60 Hz. You probably should just watch some reviews for both and then choose based on your budget and preference.

  • Too bad it’s not 144Hz

  • Would there be any way to mount this on a desk that has a solid partition at the back?

    • does desk have grommet hole?

    • +1

Yes, but you'll need to drill through the desk. The mount comes with two types of "clamps" with one being a bolt through style.

      • Thank you - we're moving into a new office soon with desks that have solid partitions behind them, I'm desperately trying to find out the model of desk before the price of these go up so I can see if a clamp mount style monitor will work.

You could buy and do a change of mind return with Amazon Prime provided you know within the next few weeks whether it will be suitable. The 32UN88A does go on sale fairly frequently (every 2 to 4 months) and likely will be on sale again with EOFY.

          • @thisusernameistaken: Thanks for the info - I found out the cutout on the back of the desk is 410mm, so hopefully I can move each monitor (want to get 2), to the maximum sideways they can go and fit two side by side on the 410mm cutout - like this: https://imgur.com/a/HcFjGWU

            • +1

@Flying Ace: I think you will have plenty of room. The base of the monitor arm is 12 cm x 12 cm. I did a very rough test with one monitor and I estimate you only need about 12 cm in space between the two bases if you want to have two monitors side by side.

  • How does it compare to the 32UP550N?
Also on sale at the moment

    • I can't speak to the particular specs, but they're similar enough that the determinative difference is likely going to be whether you want/need that ergo arm…

    • 32UP550N has VA panel

  • I know it's marketed as a business monitor, but there are definite benefits to having 120hz for general desktop use.

  • Anyone know if the monitor arm on this would work with other monitors? I already have a high end monitor arm I'd want to use with this monitor so the LG arm can be used for other monitors in the house :)

    • +1

Yes, provided the other monitors support VESA 100mm x 100mm. You may need to add weight to the monitor so the monitor arm can stay in place when moved up and down.

      • cheers

  • I bought this. Zero regrets. Beautiful work monitor.
I was previously using a 27" iMac and the extra screen real estate is fantastic.
Ergo arm is also great - mainly because I can maximise desk space as needed.
    Highly recommend
