    +1 for hall effect

    • +1

Seems as if the 2.4g controller doesn't come with hall effect sensor. Blueooth model only.

      • Could you please point us towards your source for this information?

          • @RichardL: So which one would you recommend that we purchase?

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: Comes down to use-case/personal preference/how much you are willing to pay.

IMO, the choice is between 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller (this deal) or the 8BitDo Pro 2.

              • @RichardL: So how does the Bluetooth controller work on PC and Switch but not android? Shouldn't the Bluetooth capable variant work with Bluetooth devices like android phones and tablets?

                • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: Don't own the Ultimate, so don't have first hand experience. But from a quick Reddit search:

8bitdo only enabled D-Input on Bluetooth. This is an older API for controllers. Most modern devices don't use it anymore and use X-Input. This is due to the Xbox controller basically being the default controller for PC and mobile gaming (it's why pretty much every controller not made for Nintendo has the Xbox layout).

What this means is that if a device or game doesn't support D-Input, the Ultimate controller isn't going to work with it.

The only way to get X-Input support is with the 2.4ghz adapter.

That's why 8bitdo doesn't list Android support for the Bluetooth model, they can't fully guarantee that it will work with every Android device.

I've paired mine with my S22 Ultra and it's worked with every game I've tried, but that's not indictive of full support.

Is this better than the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller?

    • +5

      Yes.

Hall effect joystick. No stick drift.

I didn't wait for the official release and went with the Gulikit, which has the same sticks. I think 8bitdo will have a better finish, so would recommend those. Also the triggers will, feel better than the Gulikit

      • +1

        Thank you.

      • +2

How is the input lag compared to the Switch Pro controller? I imagine if using with a 2.4ghz adapter it would be near untoicable?

        • I don’t get any input lag when playing deadcells, which can be a problem.

I can’t play smash on the switch because the input lag is just horrendous.

The King Kong Pro 2 via Gulikit is also connecting via Bluetooth, not 2.4ghz so I can’t speak to that

  • +2

Why would you need a controller for steam deck? If you start carrying around all these additional bits for the steam deck you might as well just get a small gaming laptop.

    • +11

      Dock

    • Ok. Cool to dump on controllers and accessories.
      I'm with you on that.
Don't you still need a controller for a small gaming laptop? A cross compatible one seems like a good good choice

    • +1

Well, I bought the controller for my Deck. It is a versatile piece of hardware.
I use it handheld while traveling or in bed etc. if I want to dock it to a monitor or TV it works essentially the same way the Switch does - best of both worlds.

      • I have never considered the Steamdeck to be used in this way, it's quite versatile indeed. I would otherwise use the Shield TV to stream from PC to living room TV.

        • Shield TV is great too! I have one as well, just made sure to kill all the Android TV advertising rubbish off the main screen.

The Deck can be used as a linux desktop once hooked up to a monitor kb&m as well. I hope we get it closer to RRP over here so more people can enjoy it, my favourite gaming device.

  • It's certainly a nice looking bit of gear. Damn.

  • Anyone also think the price could be lower after the release?

  • +1

I have one, it's a damn fine controller. It can even wake the switch from standby (You have to shake the controller for some reason, but it works).

    • +1

Does it have hall effect joy-sticks?

      • Yep. It also comes with a wireless USB dongle, so you have the choice of Bluetooth or 2.4G.

        • Yeah I bought one - gonna sus it out and sell me Nintendo one which is pretty much brand new.. sigh.

    • What's the input lag like? Have you tried both BT and 2.4Ghz dongle?

  • -1

same controller but wireless for windows or android PRE-ORDER $76.46 https://www.amazon.com.au/Ultimate-Wireless-Controller-Charg…

    • +5

Not the same. The Ultimate 2.4G doesn't have Hall Effect sensing joystick and has a shorter battery life.

      Comparison

      • +1

I stand corrected, I learnt something new today-Hall Effect

  • How much better is this vs the 8BitDo Pro 2?

    • +1

Only major difference is the Hall Effect Sensing Joystick, dock and the physical layout.

      • A big bonus is this has the ability to wake Switch

  • Is this the crème de le crème when it comes to joystick controllers?

    • I would hope so since it's a third-party controller that's more expensive than the majority of first-party controllers.

      • Isn't the xbox controller like 200 now?

    • I’d would highly recommend looking at the gulikit kingkong 2 pro and some reviews around comparing the two controllers

There’s one by Blunty that is very good (and Aussie too hahah)

      • I saw that video because I was worried that I had made a brash choice purchasing the king king 2 pro instead of the ultimate, but it turns out that the king king 2 has it’s own advantages

Specifically, the Hall effect triggers in addition to the joysticks, which is nice.

The only downside I’d say is that the white version of the King Kong 2 pro changes colour pretty quickly. Mine is now a lovely shade of yellow/brown due to oils/transfers.

I need to see if I can get replacement parts to see if I can swap things out, which I know is an option with the King Kong 2

    • Im fairly sure its the other way around. Only the Bluetooth model has the Hall Effect sticks.

      • +1

You are correct, removed my comment so as not to confuse others.

    • Which comments are advising not to get the Bluetooth model?

  • +5

Tempted, but by the time I get drift on my official Switch Pro controller, the price on these will probably have come down further, or 8bitdo Ultimate 2 might be out by then.

  • Placed an order, thanks (for feeding my shopping addiction) OP.
Will be keen to see how this goes, I still have my original joycons and pro controller from 2017 but always keen to add to the collection.

  • +1

Can someone comment on the input lag? Comparable to Switch Pro Controller? Also does rhe 2.4ghz adapter work on the switch or is it simply bluetooth usb adapter?

    • 8bitdo is fairly average with bluetooth input lag on PC. It's about on par with the Xbox One/S controllers over bluetooth on PC. The PS4/PS5 controllers are incredible in terms of bluetooth input lag. I'm not sure how the input lag is on Switch, I'd imagine it wouldn't be much different to the Pro controller. The 2.4GHz adapter does work on Switch and it improves input lag.

  • +1

I have owned this controller for the last 2 months or so and mostly play Fortnite on my PC with it + use it for switch on occasion. I honestly don't notice any input delay difference between my plugged in DS5 and this controller on 2.4ghz.

It is a fantastic controller - every aspect of it feels like quality, not like a 3rd party controller. The software is unbelievably easy to use. My only gripe is that I'm not a huge fan of the Xbox stick layout but whatever.

Don't think, just buy. I own a pro switch controller too and this is better by far.

    • Does it work well on PC games?

      • yes

    • Was the purchase mainly for wireless? Worth the purchase if you already have a DS5(assume that's the PS5 DualSense controller) ?

      • I believe the DualSense uses the same ALPS Joystick technology as the Switch Pro Controller.

So for someone who games on both PC and PS5, it might be worth it just to reduce the wear and tear of using the DualSense on both?

      • +1

Mainly for hall effect sticks + nice button paddles. The solid wireless functionality was a bonus 👌

  • +1

We have the Pro 2 and the ultimate joysticks feel firmer and better to aim. Plus fits the wifey hands better.

  • +1

The white one is cheaper and looks so much cooler :)

  • +1

If they made this exact bluetooth controller with its hall sensors for the Xbox, I'd buy it.

  • Looking to update from my old wired xbox 360 controller for PC gaming. Is this a better option than the official xbox series s/x controller?

    • Specs wise yes. Hall effect sticks so reportedly no risk of stick drift is the big sell and worth 20 extra to me. Extra buttons on the back. Gyro module. Customization software better. However ergonomics some say the xbox controller shape much better.

  • I bought one back in December. It's a great controller for both Switch and Steam games.

  • Is this better than a Xbox controller? I only play in PC.

  • +1

Thanks ordered, was about to get the Nintendo one for $79 with perks but this works out better being able to use on PC.

    Zelda time here we come.

  • This, or the xbox controller?

  • What's the difference with this one?

8BitDo Ultimate Wireless 2.4g Controller with Charging Dock, 2.4g Controller for Windows, Android & Raspberry Pi (Black) https://amzn.asia/d/6UXjeXC

Looks the same thing but cheaper (Only difference I see is that this one has colours in the buttons.

    • +1

Not the same. The Ultimate 2.4G doesn't have Hall Effect sensing joystick and has a shorter battery life.
