What happens when Xbox Forza games go End Of Life?

Most who are reading this would have seen the discounts on Forza Horizon 4 & 5 packs which has a week left to run.

There are two of us that share an XBox, one has FH4 base game and the other has a FH4 premium bundle without base. Tyring to decide between adding only FH5 expansion upgrades or buy the whole lot.

I have read that MS gave owners of FH3 expansions and car pass etc a code for the base game if it was not already owned.
Was that 'normal' or perhaps the first time it had occurred?
Looking for peoples 'advise' here

    My original xbox disc for Forza Motorsport still works just fine.

    What you describe actually happened with FM7, not FH3. And there was a good reasoning about it - the base game was available via game pass for "free". so people could buy addons and have the full game. Once the game was about to be delisted MS decided to gift the base game to everyone who had addons only, covering this game pass use-case, but it was done out of good will - there was no promise they are going to do it, there was no guarantee, and the same is true for FH4.

    I don't think anything like that happened with previous games simply because game pass didn't exist back then.

    With FH4 things are even more vague because they didn't even announce EOL date and it won't happen out of blue. Also for FM7 and FH3 the week before EOL they set a great "goodbye" discounts for the game.

      thanks, I am leaning towards buying the lot because buying half makes no sense when the price jump to the next level of ownership changes less and less
      I wish electronically owned games could be sent to another account, that would be handy in my current situation
      I'll think about it for another few days anyway

    Is there a reason to go back to the old games tho? Good for nostalgia, but realistically each game coming out only gets better (though yes, was fun driving around Aus in FH3…)

    Can't say I had reason to go back to FH4 once I started with FH5. Just didn't hold any appeal for me. Hell, even for FH5 currently I'm just doing it for the weekly events and now the rally expansion (really wanna 100% my car collection!)

      Horizon 3 is still the best game. Best execution of the format, easily the best soundtrack and although we are all probably biased, the best map.

      I don't think any of the changes to the format in 4 and 5 improved the game. 3 was simple, you ran the festival (as opposed to being "star driver"), you had festival sites and each time you leveled them up you unlocked more events in that area. Simple.

      It's just a shame I never got a digital copy while it was listed so I could play on PC as well. Unrestricted by the 30fps cap they refuse to go back and remove from the Xbox version. Codes are now prohibitively expensive as you could imagine.

      I've barely played FH4, I got around 25% thru FM6 that we got with the XB1 before not gaming for a while. I started FH5 not long after release and I'm also targeting a full car collection.
      I just want the option to play FH4 later on. I think I bought FM7 at eol sale too
