Home Security Cameras - Connect to Google Home AND Apple Homekit

Are there any cameras (PoE or WiFi) that can use the native app as well as connect to both Google Home and Apple Homekit at the same time, or will I need to choose one only?

I'd like to view the cameras and a doorbell from a Google Nest Hub but also take advantage of Apple Homekit as we have a 2TB iCloud subscription.

ChatGPT's answer is below but I believe Reolink is not compatible with HomeKit.

Certainly! Here are some PoE (Power over Ethernet) home security cameras that are compatible with both Google Home and Apple HomeKit:
1. Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera: This outdoor security camera features a built-in floodlight for enhanced visibility at night and supports PoE for easy installation. It is compatible with Google Home and Apple HomeKit, allowing you to integrate it into your smart home ecosystem.
2. Reolink RLC-520 PoE IP Camera: This high-resolution PoE camera from Reolink offers excellent image quality and supports both Google Home and Apple HomeKit integration. It also has built-in motion detection, night vision, and two-way audio for comprehensive home security.
3. EufyCam 2 Pro: EufyCam 2 Pro is a wireless outdoor security camera system that supports PoE via an optional adapter. It is compatible with Google Home and Apple HomeKit, and features 2K resolution, local storage, and advanced AI-based human detection for accurate alerts.
4. Logitech Circle View: This PoE indoor security camera from Logitech is designed specifically for Apple HomeKit, but also supports Google Home. It offers high-quality video, two-way audio, and advanced privacy features, making it a great option for Apple-centric smart homes.
5. Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera: Netatmo's outdoor security camera supports PoE and is compatible with both Google Home and Apple HomeKit. It offers features such as facial recognition, customizable motion zones, and the ability to store footage locally on an SD card, providing a comprehensive security solution.

Please note that compatibility with Google Home and Apple HomeKit may require additional setup and configuration, and it's always recommended to check the latest compatibility information from the manufacturers' websites to ensure that the cameras meet your specific requirements.

You have to be careful, as while some might STATE that they connection to both services, you can't actually use them at the same time. For example, with both Netatmo and Eufy (which I own), I can use their native apps, and I can connect to HomeKit, but once I connect to HomeKit, features in the native apps are disabled or reduced… for example, HK is limited to 1080p, even though the Eufys support 2K. I also can't use the Eufy object detection, or the RTSP/NAS support, and some other features IF I'm linked to HomeKit. It says I have to de-link from HomeKit first.

If you've got the chops, I'd probably recommend using a camera that is compatible with something like Scrypted or Home Assistant. Them, either of those platforms can "export" (aka Make Available) the cameras to HomeKit and Google.

    • Thanks. I should probably go down the Home Assistant rabbit hole but I'm getting older and want to spend less time tinkering and get something that works OOTB. 🙂

      • I hear ya. FWIW, I've had a long, evolving relationship with HA. For years, I just used it like Homebridge, to just act as a bridge for a device or two not directly supported in HomeKit. Then, I moved my entire Zigbee mesh over to it, and replaced a fairly large Homebridge install with it… but I still kept the brains (Automations) in HomeKit. Finally, about a month ago, I conceded and moved the brains into HA, and I now only use HomeKit for Siri, family and guests. You don't have to go all in on HA to get some benefit. It can be gradual, or just stay minimal.

But, I just remembered, that while HA can bridge camera entities to HomeKit, I don't think they support HomeKit Secure Video. Scrypted definitely does support HomeKit Secure Video though, but I haven't played with it yet.

  • You can use Reolink with Home Assistant. Home Assistant can then bridge the entities to HomeKit (via HomeBridge I think). However, I am not sure if you can record to iCloud this way. Someone else needs to confirm.

  • Anything that can connect to home assistant.

I have a wyze camera, several reolinks and a Kogan baby monitor that all work in home assistant through frigate. All their native apps work, as well as home assistant app and frigate and I can cast to google devices.
