Hey Folks,

We're super excited to be showcasing two single origins and some bigger sizes.

First up, we've got a Grade 1 Natural coffee from Arsosala in Ethiopia roasted by Atypical. I've been sipping this for the past week or so and the flavours just keep opening up. The wine glass offer seemed to get a good response, so we've been able to secure the same deal for this coffee too. For those who don't remember, we're giving out 2x Red Wine Glasses from Schott Zwiesel when you order the 1kg (or 2kg!) variants of Atypical.

PS. If you're looking for 1kg of Candid or some Padre singles, those are still available on this deal.

Gather round the fire kids, get comfortable and look me in the eye.

Tell me…why would you order your coffee from anywhere else?

        Glad to hear this :)

  • Candid for $32.5/kg?! What a value.

    • :)

  • My first purchase from direct, keen to try the Ethiopia Arsosala on my p64.

    • Exciting! Look forward to hearing what you think :)

    • Had first few shots, liking so far - can imagine the marmalade and melon notes…..any deals on filter roasts coming up soon by chance?

      • Glad to hear it!

Yes we definitely have some filter options in the pipeline.

Just out of interest, do you have any favourite origins and/or roasters for filter coffee?

        • I like light roasted fruity stuff for filter but I haven't tried that much good stuff.

          • @blues99: Sorry to hear it's been slim pickings lately. We usually recommend Market Lane and Seven Seeds for lightly roasted coffee. However, they aren't always bright and fruity. Have you tried the F Bomb blend from Seeds?

  • gonna give it a try, hope it tastes good or i'll be suffering for the next 3 months getting through a kilo of these beans. at least the wine glasses look nice.

    • We appreciate all feedback - good, bad or indifferent :) Please do let me know. Cheers, Tim

      • it's a nice blend, but would be better if it had a bit more 'punch'. i'm worried by the time i open the 3 other tins that all the flavour have evaporated.

        • Sorry to hear it's lacking punch. May I ask what recipe you're working with?

  • Looks like espresso roast based off the brew recommendations, but wanting to get this for filter. Anyone know how Atypical - Ethiopia Arsosala Grade would go as filter?

    • Yep, it's being roasted for espresso. However, it is medium roast so it can be a little versatile. Just out of interest, what roasters do you normally enjoy? With any luck I may be able to tell you if the roast level would be ok for you. Cheers, Tim

      • I generally rotate roasters for espresso based drinks regularly and don't have a massive preference (Atypical house blend has been great, currently drinking Fieldworks' house blend which I have to say has been one of my fav)

As for filter I tend to gravitate more towards the roasteries that specialise in filter and do roast on the lighter side. Axil has been doing a great job, I've always liked Industry Beans (but they tend to be on the pricier side) and Market Lane are great (again on the pricy side)

I'm going to go ahead and get the Atypical Ethiopia and see how it goes, if not I'll just freeze it and drink it espresso whenever I want something more funky :D

        • Nice! Haven't had the Fieldwork in a while. Hopefully we'll be working with them once they move into their new space in Brunswick.

I believe the plan is for Atypical to roast their filter coffee to a similar level as AXIL, if not a little lighter. However, not as light as Market Lane.

Let me know how you go :)

          • @directcoffee: Works well as filter also. A little dark - slightly ashy taste given its espresso roast used for filter, maybe I I have too many fines (setting 8 on the EK ), I'll try coarser next time to reduce the extraction. Still tastes great though.

            • @momptdeals: Sweet! Glad to hear it :) that grinder for your home setup??

  • Bummer… went to order some Atypical Ethiopia Arsosala but it's sold out.

    Hopefully more coming next week?

    • All gone I'm afraid :( New singles coming out tomorrow though!

  • Be careful guys, I cut my hand twice on the inside edge of the can from the last deal.

    • Oh no, sorry to hear that :( Is your hand ok? Would you mind sending me a message so I can look into this?

      • There's not much to tell. The inside edge is quite sharp. The problem was when reaching into the can to scoop out beans. Got the dorsal aspect of my hand.against the edge. I'll live.

        • Appreciate the extra feedback. Sorry again about the cur :(
