expired Hotelclub - $80 USD free credit 2008 -> Updated - thanks Mastablasta :)
This was posted 1289 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
11 Dec 2008: For those new to the deal, it's no longer available …
8 Dec 2008: Hotelclub has expired credit obtained through those $50 sign ups. :(
Remember to do your comparisons when booking hotels. Sometimes hotelclub is the same price. Other times it can be more expensive.
4 Dec 2008: Looks like all the hotelclub promos have been discontinued :) Big thanks though to Hotelclub :)
Update: The Christmas gift of $30 USD is no longer available.
You may still want to apply to join them and get $50 USD credit. It'll last 2 years and with the current exchange rates, it may be handy for a hotel booking in the future. Who knows, they might even do a Christmas gift again next year :)
Old details below
You can now get up to $80 USD credit to use on hotel bookings via Hotelclub! :) You don't have to book now, but you probably should register now to get the $80 USD credit.
First, join up using a $50 USD promo such as http://www.hotelclub.com.au/virgin (kudos to Sean) or here, if you haven't already joined.
Log out.
Then go to the Christmas 2008 link http://www.hotelclub.com.au/christmas2008.asp
Enter your details in the left hand side, under new user. Use the same e-mail and password as the account you just created.
You receive a message saying that e-mail was found already.
Now when you go to your account you have $80 USD credit.
BIG KUDOS TO MASTABLASTA for figuring out how to handle the buggy Christmas page :)
There is some confusion over when $30 USD will expire, as the Christmas offer suggests it may expire 10/12/2008 … not sure if they mean the credit will expire, or the offer for people to get the credit will expire …
As always, check the price after voucher is actually better than you can get by booking directly or via one of those sites like wotif.com.au
Happy hunting and Merry Christmas all.
In case it's not clear, I don't work for any of those groups mentioned. I just received the offer in the e-mail.

Thanks mate! It is a great bargain!
On the page it says
"*30 Member Dollars is equivalent to $USD 30. As this is a special offer, there is a maximum 30 Member Dollars per person that will expire on 10 December 2008 and is not to be used in conjunction with any other HotelClub promotion running. Otherwise all standard terms and conditions apply. "
But I found out after applying for the $30, my expiry date for "Member Dollars" remains at 27-Oct-2010 with total "Member Dollars" at $80. I don't know whether $30 of which will disappear after 10 December 2008 though.
GreatWhiteHunter on 10/11/2008 - 15:06 ¶Hmm I got my free $50 via an Optus promo - when I try to get this $30 it says it cannot be used with any other offer
Bummer

Well I actually have two email addresses. I have joined using those two email addresses. Both using the link http://hotelclub.com.au/cathay/ . I think it's the same as using /virgin, /JAL, /thaiair etc.
On one account, I have already used the $50 credit and had $0 in my account, and a small amount of pending balance from my booking. After applying for this $30 credit, I have $30 now (plus pending credit).
On the other account, I have not used it so I still had $50 credit. And now I have $80.
I reckon it's better and easier to get another account to get the $80. :)

Thank you so much for sharing this one! It didn't look like it worked (Still displayed $50 credit on the top of the page) but worked I went to the booking page.
You've enabled me to book a 4 star hotel for 2 nights in the middle of my 5 week backpacking trip. Bargain! Yay!

Hmm … if I read this correctly, people have till 10 December to pick up the $30 voucher.
I guess for everyone who just signed up and got a $50 … it might be worth trying again about 2nd December, to see if system will allow them to get the Christmas bonus. It might not … but it might :)

This is the deal that I originally signed up with and was able to combine with the $30

Hotel Club/Foxtel
mastablasta on 11/11/2008 - 13:52 ¶No-one has described how to get the $50 + $30 to work, so I'll say it.
Firstly, create an account using the Virgin/Cathay or similar links (Foxtel doesn't work for me however). You'll get the $50.
Then, go to the Christmas promotion page, and under the Register for Free section (on the left), enter in the exact same details as the account you just created in the previous step (well, e-mail address and password are the important ones I guess).
You will come across a page which says that that account already exists. Click on the 'click here' link to login to your account. Tada - you will see your account with $80 USD.
I was unable to get the Xmas bonus by submitting my details under the Already a Member section.
I can confirm that the system doesn't seem to make a distinction as to whether you create an account via one of the $50 bonuses before or after the Xmas promotion was started.
I can also confirm that you can use the whole $80 for single bookings.
Good luck all.

cameron_les on 12/11/2008 - 08:24 ¶hi has anyone booked with hotelclub and stayed at the hotel yet. does it work? thought?
fashionista78 on 13/11/2008 - 10:30 ¶Didn't work for me but US $50 is still good which worked out to be AU $75 when I booked a hotel. You also might want to check out the last minute hotels, they are cheaper than if you search through the main link

I'm starting to think people can only get the $50 USD now. They may have changed the code. …
With the $50 USD you can still get something like 20 - 50% off the best rates on some places, plus you are registered should they happen to offer more bonuses. :)
Happy hunting or … parking of your credit in hopes of another one :)
ozbillwang on 13/11/2008 - 12:33 ¶Only get $50 promt, when apply extra $30 prom, get this message, seems hotelclub fixed the bug.
"sorry, this promotion may not be used in conjunction with any other Hotelclub promotion"
ssmith3104 on 13/11/2008 - 14:13 ¶I followed the steps shown. It gave me the new account with a $50 credit, but step #2 would not give an additional $30. However, I had another account in my wife's name upon which we had already received and used the $50 bonus, and when I tried your "step #2" on that account, it DID work to take that account up from $0 balance to now be $30 credit. (yes, they had already emailed me about that $30 offer)
Note it always pays to check HotelClub prices. I used them twice in the USA in July/August. On one occassion, their price was about $40 higher than Expedia's price for the same hotel, so there was very little benefit realised, but, in the other case it worked out well because the Expedia price was the same as the HotelClub price.
richie0604 on 13/11/2008 - 17:10 ¶can i ask if anyone has used the $80 credit, booked, and stayed at the hotel with no problems? this deal sounds toooooo good to believe it's true…
seanbsydney on 24/11/2008 - 19:32 ¶Yup, I've used it too - had a great night for basically half price.
seanbsydney on 24/11/2008 - 19:33 ¶I have signed up with several different email addresses & they have credited me at each one no problems. Used one but haven't tried using them together, can't see that they could stop you though the hotel might make you check in and check out each night.
+1 voteseanbsydney on 24/11/2008 - 19:33 ¶But now the foxtel $50 is alive again! See my separate post.

Yeah, same here for all my accounts. Got to use it twice for the $80 USD, but the rest of them are gone and now there's just $30 left.
Seems like they've gone through the accounts and cleared their mistakes…
EDIT: Looks like the $50 was removed for being 'expired' although when I signed up with that Virgin link I don't recall it saying credit expires on 1 December 2008.

No,
Click below,
www.hotelclub.com/tubeand you're able to get the $49(USD)!
I mean the combination of two promotion($49 + $30(Christmas Promo) doesn't work…

Warning to anyone who opened multiple accounts:
they just cancelled all my bookings (even where I paid money on top) and suspended my accounts. According to an American website this is happening to everybody who had opened more than one account now. Bugger. They haven't mentioned anything about refunding the extra money paid.
