    road warriors

You won't be fighting anything with that thing

    • the only thing you will be fighting is screen lag

  • Nice. Was looking for something to claim on tax lol

  • Can boot DepthBoot: No

    That's a shame.

Weird specs. Not sure why you need 8gb ram paired wth such an anaemic processor.
    No flip on this model?
Lenovo is far superior at chromebooks imho

    • it is a chromebook after all

Hi, there is an error in the title. It is G3 not G4:

    HP ChromeBook X360 11Mk G3.

The Google Auto Update expiry on this model is June 2028 (https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366). That is when you won't get any more Chrome updates.

Hard to recommend any chromebook with this hd resolution

    • +3

      11.6" I think it's fine

    • +1

At this screen size the resolution is irrelevant.

  • Anyone have any experience running Linux environment on these (ARM based Chromebooks)?

  • Can you reinstall Linux on it?

  • Big No to these in a laptop; 1366x768 screen resolution, 11 inch screen, mediatek procesor, emmc storage. This looks straight outta 2008.

Probably better off getting one of the refurbished laptop deals so you don't want to kill yourself using it.

For what it's worth, ChromeOS needs a LOT less power compared to, honestly, even Android Go. ChromeOS is as basic as they come, it's still quite snappy on my genuinely ancient Chromebook 2, from 2013…the version with 2GB of RAM no less.

Loading tabs takes a teensy bit longer than my newer one (Lenovo something or other, few years old now anyway) as you'd expect, but it still plods along perfectly useably. From cold boot it's 5ish seconds, as it was when I got the thing a decade ago. Only reason I even bought a new one is bc at the time a new battery for that one would have run me a hundred or so bucks, and this whole new computer was on spesh for 2 or 3 hundos at Amazon. Still have the oldboi in the attic hooked up to the wall for if I'm ever up there (the attic is basically a mancave, much as I hate the term, though we're offtopic now)…

Point is, for ChromeOS, I have no doubt this guy would be fine for the intended user. You can install JStorrent and do your torrenting shit, you can stream whatever perfectly fine via Chrome with no app required, and with the PlayStore there's gonna be a tonne of games and emulators you could run too (I personally have nothing installed on my Chromies at the moment, bar the torrent program, which gets used maybe twice a year at that if lucky, so I'm not one to comment on the usefulness of the Play Store here) … I'd be tempted to get one for the (profanity) of it, for the tabletness, if not for the Optus Samsung A8 deal a year ago. Not that I use it either lmao, too many toys.

tl;dr - For browsing and whatnot, as ChromeOS is intended, it should really be fine, and for the price, the 2 in 1 style of it makes it a pretty decent proposition.

  • Updates up to 2028. Not bad. I still hate how they have expirations though.
