Boost Mobile Tricky Solution

Hi all,

I’m with Boost mobile for the last one year and been very happy with them. My plan expires very soon. I’m wondering if I Port my number to amaysim or any eSIM provider and then change to Boost mobile as a new customer can I get a better rates?

Can someone please provide me with a yearly package deal? Last time someone here pointed me to eBay site. Also, I can’t find out what discounts can Boost Mobile provide me for not porting my number to another provider.

Cons of boost mobile:

  • No eSIM solution
  • Apple watch eSIM support not available

  • No eSIM solution

This is a con but they might have to enable it soon with the new iPhone going simless (in USA for now). On the other hand given nearly every other provider does eSIM you can keep your physical Boost one and just get eSims when travelling/for a second line.

Apple watch eSIM support not available

This is only available for extra cost with the big 3 carriers so unless you planned to triple your spend it's not really a con of Boost but rather all affordable plans.

I have no idea how eSIM works, but assuming it's the same as any regular SIM, yeah, you should be able to port your number to a different provider and then port back in on a discounted Boost SIM Starter kit.
eBay is still probably your best bet unless you bought a discounted kit from one of Boosts deals earlier this year.

  • Can someone give me the link where I’ll get the best deal from Boost? I can’t seem to find the eBay link I used before.
There are plenty of sellers and I can’t trust most sellers in eBay.

  • You don't have to port in and out with Boost pre-paid. If you purchase a pre-paid starter kit, just message them on their live chat and say you want to activate it as a recharge with your existing number. Don't remember the exact steps but I did it just last month and it was seamless and only took 10-15 minutes.

    • Last time I tried, I was waiting more than 45 minutes for no response from online chat.
It was during Business Hours on a regular weekday too.
After about 15 minutes I even started a second chat on my phone (through mobile data) just in case it was a connection issue.

      • Did you get it to work as a recharge?

        • No.
TLDR; Ended up having to just recharge.

          Long Version
The whole scenario was a shitshow.
I had planned to port out for a month, but the Woolworths mobile SIM I purchased 3 weeks earlier hadn't arrived. (it ended up taking 30 days from order to delivery. 100% AUsPost's fault as the postmark clearly indicated that they'd received it only a few days after I'd ordered)
It was the last day of my wife's Boost plan and we were headed camping (and out of range) as soon as I finished work.
~15 minutes before we were planning to leave I noticed that Boost were offering a discounted recharge and 5-10 minutes later with still no sign of any Live Chat activity I bit the bullet and paid up. I think we may have paid $170 for the $200 plan. Not amazing, but also still decent value (especially compared to the "discounted rates" available today)

    • Really? I heard they reject you right away. The starter kit clearly states it’s for new connection or transfer from another provider.

Is there a valid source to point the live agents if my recharge gets rejected?

      • I've seen in other posts multiple people claiming the same.
        Just play it dumb.
Still easier to port out and in again if you don't NEED full Telstra coverage for a month

        • When I chat to them what do I tell them that I bought a $200 1 year new starter pack thinking I can recharge my current plan?

          • @justanick: Yeah, I guess.

            • @ESEMCE: What happens if I activate / recharge after 42 days (letting my current plan expire)?
