3x Xiaomi Bluetooth Temperature Humidity Sensor $26.92 ($26.32 with eBay Plus) Delivered @ Luckymi eBay

APR202310APR202312

After some requests this previously popular Xiaomi Bluetooth Temperature and Humidity Sensor deal is back. You must add 3 to the cart and apply the coupon for the price to go down. While not as cheap as last time I still think it's a good price for local stock.

These monitors will display the current temperature/humidity and can be linked with other Xiaomi smart home products via the Mi Home app. It also has a "baby monitor" mode where it will send you an alert through the Mi Home app when the temperature and humidity go too high or too low.

For those who are into tinkering there is a custom firmware project for this too.

Custom firmware is great, and was the key to unlocking the sensors to work well with Home Assistant. I am running HA as a container on Fedora Linux with Podman, in case anybody is interested and wants to know more.

      Pls tell me more

Also running Home Assistant here (LXC in Proxmox) and interested in these. Did you apply the linked ATC_MiThermometer firmware and how easy was it? Thanks!

      • Very easy with https://pvvx.github.io/ATC_MiThermometer/TelinkMiFlasher.htm…

Just download and upload it once u pair it with bluetooth.

        • Looks easy, cheers! Bought 3 :)

          • @5kbjvb3o: If you are flashing it, put it on xiaomi style behaviour so HA's built-in Bluetooth would discover it. Otherwise you may use a Bluetooth-tracker in esphome.

        • Been using this over the past week to flash mine and fix battery and range issues for use with Home Assistant. Works well. Helped to get a few working from quite far away through multiple walls and floors.

this is interesting. can you point me to the right direction on how to setup HA? Can I run this on raspberry pi? I have zero experience in HA and setting up on Raspberry (but I have one).

      • +2

Honestly it's much easier to run it on a second hand thin client that you can buy for less than $50. They come with proper SSDs and a multitude of ports. I don't really understand the obsession with the Pi for such applications.

If you can shell out a little more consider a tiny PC (such as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/770474) where you can run VMware/Proxmox and host other services (such as pfSense, NAS, your own web site etc) as well.

You had me at custom firmware. Will be handy in HA. Thanks.

i see xiaomi products on sale semi regularly, they seem so make everything, what are peoples thoughts on their products in general? are they just cheap Chinese stuff or actually good stuff

    • +1

Been very happy. They do loads of different things under different brand names as well. Roborock vacs are premium, love my desk lamp, Aquara are taking over the Home Kit crowd, motion detection magnetic lamps are popular with my parents and last ages. Don't think I have a bad product from them.

    • A lot of them are quite good, very different from the traditional cheap chinese stuff. In terms of design, material, function, etc. Also, especially the price. I am Chinese, i know. :)

    • XiaoMi do this in a very big picture, IOT, for personal market, connect and control everything in your home. They has a lot of products in this sector, and also produce some great brand, like Rock etc

Got one of these, it's a pain to change the battery.

    • Should have kept that little plastic tab lodged in the battery compartment. Smarts 👏

      • What does that do? I didn't think it made opening it easier?

        • +6

Only pull it out when you need to check the temp, then squish it back in when you're done. Battery last long time! #OzBargain

          • +2

            @muncan: lol….I have no words…..

    • I just did that, not very difficult.

    • How are you finding it difficult to change the battery? It's a piece of p!ss.

  • These are great for monitoring baby's room temp. With custom firmware you can make some small tweaks, and not check the temp without having to use the dodgy Xiaomi app.

    • yes. we use them for the same purpose. we use MijiaTemp app on Android to read the data.

  • They’d be perfect if they showed the time too.

    These are crap.
the old round ones are better.

The battery on these do not last long when using it with an app that queries it regularly for updates.
The round old ones with the AAA battery actually last a long time. Sad they no longer make them

    • +3

Battery doesn't last long even without using the app. I have a few of these, always dimming and running out. The ones with an AAA are still going 5 years on, contrast as good as day 1.

      • yep. i have 3 of the round AAA ones. I wish i had bought 100 of them .. okay .. at least 2 more :(

    • I have the 3 packs, they last more than 1 year, no custom ROM.

      • 1 year sounds fair. do you recommend these?

        • I didn't check that a lot and I am using the Xiaomi Home app and after playing around with it for awhile (add/remove the devices several times) and finally they refreshed correctly. Before sometime it may took very long to download data or the temp on the home screen didn't match the device, etc.

          • @superforever: You may need a Bluetooth gateway to read. These sensor are connected via Bluetooth.

            • @anxuanyu: I have it on my phone with Xiaomi app

              • @superforever: It is strange that you can read them without a hardware gateway. I had few 3years ago, and I need another hardware Bluetooth gateway to read them, because my old MI gateway do not support Bluetooth.

Maybe my gears are too old :)

                • +2

@anxuanyu: These don’t need any special Bluetooth gateways. They are just bluetooth and communicate to the app via Bluetooth on phone.

this custom firmware mentions better battery life, maybe worth a try?

    • Try custom firmware and tweak for longer life

OOS - got me at checkout :-/

  • Any recommendations for alternatives to these. I don't like using devices with disposable batteries so need either a rechargeable battery or replaceable AA/AAA

    • if you can find an old round one with AAA, those are the best.

    • The electronic ink version with clock is cooler. It costs more and takes two of those batteries instead of one, so you might not like that.

I have a Govee equivalent to these and am very happy with them.
      I think it’s these:
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Govee-Hygrometer-Thermometer-Tempe…

  • Where i can find cheap batteries

    • I just buy them from Amazon, whatever is cheapest per battery. Everything uses this size battery so it's good to stock up anyway.

    • $3 for 8x 2032 cells at Red Dot

    • I buy 20 x CR2032 from eBay with Australia Stock, 7 dollars. Unknown brand but still work good.

BTW, AliExpress is toooooo slow in delivering, I’d prefer Temu in future.

  • (^_^)

  • +1

fyi if you're not the type of person to frequent aliexpress, aliexpress gives discounts on a single product for your first purchase of a new account. i got 1 of these a few months ago for $1.01

the normal price is around $10

    • Link please (if avail)? I monitor Aliexpress for these regularly and have never see for anywhere close to $1. I know the do go on special hence the reason I keep an eye out.

      • +1

New user account special. Though I think the new user coupon is no longer 1c and now a couple of dollars.

        • Ah yeah, that makes sense.

  • Anyone else get this from the seller?
