Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 256GB $1364.30 Delivered @ Samsung Education Store

This seems like an ok price for not having to use trade-ins. Might be able to use a loyalty discount + newsletter?

Also applies to the S23 Ultra 'Online Exclusive' Colours - Graphite, Sky Blue, Red & Lime.

EDIT: S23 and S23+ Range are also 30% off RRP.

    • How much is S23+ 256 if I may know?

      • +1

        $1154.30

  • This is a good deal. I'd jump on it if I didn't order on the deal a month ago.

  • +1

does anyone know if loyalty discount can be used here?

    • +1

Generally not on education store. Newsletter $50 should work

      • +1

Cant get the newsletter code to apply to cart… accepts code but says it may not apply… anyone got it to work?

      • Yep Can't get it working. Seems pretty good deal if no other things can be done on it happy to pull the trigger

  • +3

This is the price you pay going through multiple hoops, trade in, newsletter, loyalty, bla bla to get this price

    • +11

Not to mention their bad customer service when problems happen. I didn't have a phone for 5 weeks while they 'escalated' it to a 'superior' every 3 to 4 days.

This was Samsung Care Plus too - a 'paid' service.

      • While i agree with you, care plus is a seperate mob i thought

    • +1

This is quite a bit more than the deal requiring jumping through a couple of very big, easy to navigate, hoops.

  • My order was canceled due to no stock days after order confirmation. How can I get this deal?

    • Where did you purchase from? Not sure why they would cancel when this is not a discontinued phone

      • Samsung website, they took back order. Telling me that it'll be available from 20th May and then few days later cancelled it. Pathetic experience buying from them.

  • +1

Showing $1559 at gov epp store

  • How much is the S22 Ultra going for at the education store?

    • +5

$1439.20 as per usual it makes no sense

  • +13

Had this since launch, got an OzB deal at the time ;) - fantastic unit. Excellent camera system, slick performance, solid battery life and so on. No regrets considering the use it gets.

    • +1

What phone did you upgrade from? Not sure if it's worth upgrading from the regular S21.

      • From an S21 Ultra, and yeah, it's not that big an upgrade from that unit at least, would feel bigger vs a base S21 or S21+, mostly in the camera department.

FWIW I didn't even want to upgrade yet, but our procurement strategy involves me getting a new phone and giving my wife whatever I was using, when she's over the phone she's using. Nevertheless very happy with the S23U.

  • Thanks OP - Im holding off for the S24 - Apparently the specs of the S23 are not the best to be upgrading from an S22.

    • +6
    • What will the s24 ultra have that will make you upgrade? There is being reports that Samsung will bring back exynos again. My s22u is more than enough

    • +4

I have no idea where you heard that, the S24, like the S22 is only going to be a minor upgrade.

Plus there is a good chance the S24 will have Exynos which means it could be worse then the S23.

      • What else can they add to the s24? Another camera, slightly faster processor? I think we have definitely reached a plateau and they are tinkering at the edges. Folding phones have some room for innovation but not sure we will see much more improvement in conventional phones

        • What else have they added since the Note 8?

There are always improvements but not everyone wants improvements.

          • +1

@samfisher5986: The cameras and processor improved significantly but that is due to 5 years of development. In 5 years the corresponding model will probably be notice better too. Next years model not so much. The next big advance will be in software with more AI integrations

            • @qvinto: Large camera improvement happen every 2 years, not 5 years though.

But its up to what is important to the user.

    • Sideloading is only limited to EU.

    • cheaper?? LOL

Wish I had a crystal ball to tell the future.. I wanna know if Amazon will bring back that Prime $1199 S23 Ultra 256GB deal back again :( or if I should bite the bullet and get this deal!

    • Isn't prime day in July? Might be that price again.

But might be too long to wait.

Up to you if U need it right meow

      • don't they change prime day every year?

    • +2

Crystal ball usually says IT always go down in price 😉

    • update: I bought it on Sat 13/05, email received yesterday 16/05 that it is dispatched and I received the delivery today 17/05 :) happy days!

  • Is it worth waiting till EOFY for this? Tossing up between this and Google Pixel 7 Pro.

    • +1

      wait, always wait

    • +1

Give it another few months and choose between p8 or s24

      • S24 will be out at the end of the year? Beginning of next year?

      • +2

But if you wait for those 2, the prices are going to be insane at launch.

        • +2

My S23U on launch was actually cheap with amount of discounts and free stuff they offered, compared to right now where you get nothing at all.

Its basically more expensive now then on launch.

    • Wait for the Pixel 8 Pro if you are at this price range imo

    • Wait for the galaxy fold 5 instead.

    • Wait for galaxy note 24

As a recent buyer of the Samsung S23 Galaxy, I would just say be aware there is some sort of defect with the S23 camera that is widely being discussed on Reddit - not sure why Samsung has not addressed this yet.

    • +1

      • also to be discreet so you don't get shooed away, a white panel van is recommended

        • But make sure kids know you have free candy, so put it on the side just in case.

    • Apply for a job as a university lecturer

    • +2

I signed up for uni in 2004, then on my 'first day' went and deferred my course indefinately.
No fees, but still a student 'forever' until I go back.

      • Ah, now that's a hack :)

      • In SA, need to pay a fee to apply for Uni via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre). Last I checked was like $150 bucks for mature students.

        • I was a school graduate back then; so it was free.

    • +1

The hardware is so good, I just wish they didn't strip out the network access controls per app that you find in stock Android.
It's my only big gripe left with their software; then I'd move to Samsung.

    • There's no such thing as stock android anymore in a consumer sense, are you sure they stripped it out?

      • +1

I meant stock Google Android; I know AOSP isn't available to consumers.
The likes you find on Pixel, Asus, Nokia and Moto.

Yes, I'm sure they stripped it out. It's a hot topic on the Samsung forums, and I manage the MDM at my workplace, I assure you it's removed from Samsungs modified version of Android 13. I'm just not a fan of arbitrary restrictions purely because they felt like playing with the standards.

        • Fair enough, good to know as I would like the feature.

        • Linkage? My workplace is just about to implement a new MDM and although we mostly have iPhone across the fleet we've got a couple of S23 handsets.

          • @Chazzozz: We're currently using ZoHo Manage Engine; It's not the most powerful, but it easily has the mose user friendly MDM app for the end users, which just saves so many headaches it's not even funny.

I'm sorry vent on this post but I just bought a S23 ultra 512GB version at the end of Feb. It had a Bluetooth hardware issue from day 1 straight out the box. The BT connection kept popping intermittently with multiple BT devices. After handing the phone in twice at the Samsung store and having the Samsung 'engineers' do nothing to address it, I escalated the issue to their 'VOC' process. The VOC escalation process took over 5 weeks. After threatening them with a small claims court case, they finally agreed to replace the phone. All this while, I was without a device working with my 10 year old chinese phone as I can had given my Goolge nexus 6 that I upgraded from to my dad. I'm never buying a phone from Samsung again. They 'Customer support' is appalling. Google gives you a replacemend device or sends you a replacement with a hold on your credit card, you're never without a device with them.

This phone cost me nearly $2500

    • +1

It’s so weird for a big company they cannot address the fundamentals.

When I was working for a telco, a fellow staff member had similar grief. They had the latest Samsung smartphone, dispatched three times to their repair centre to fix multiple issues and without the device for five months in between.

The way he got it resolved - spoke to a high enough manager within the telco organisation who made a single phone call or email and then said to the colleague to go to the store later in the afternoon and pick up his replacement.

For the majority that do not have such contacts I do not know how you can get any customer service from them.

    • +1

I bet you it's a firmware issue. Had the same, couldn't get esims to work at all for 3 months. All the proof in the world and they wouldn't believe me. Then an unrelated firmware update fixed it.

    • +1

That sucks. For this reason it's better to buy from amazon. I had an issue with the listing being incorrect on their website and they not only refunded me for the phone but gave me $300 store credit after a bit of complaining from my side. But all in all resolved in 1 business day. Its a shame you have to go outside of Samsung to get good customer service for a Samsung device.

  • -3

Won't buy a Samsung until they fix the mess, I am still waiting for my S23 Ultra purchased back in February and have asked for a refund as well but nothing so far.

  • +2

i upgraded to one of these from an s20 and ive been pretty damn happy with it, despite the high price. its been a beast when it comes to emulation, especially ps2 and gamecube. and its nice to have a decent battery again after my old one started to go to crap after 3 years. dont bother with a trade in with samsung tho, i got screwed over with mine.

  • +1

Have waited the refund from Samsung Online Store for 3 months, will never purchase Galaxy products again.

    • -5

I had a chicken burger for dinner.

Just sharing facts that people may not be interested in too.

    • +2

In the future buy though PayPal, if Samsung don't refund you promptly due to lack of replies, lodge a case with PayPal and they will force a refund. It worked for me

  • +3

I was a bit scared about the comments saying it took months to get their phones. I purchased the sky blue in the last deal via edu store and got it within a week.

  • +1

This is a good deal but the one posted a couple of weeks ago with $500 trade-in bonus was probably one of the best ones so far.

I have an education account but jumped on that deal and got an S23 Ultra 256gb for $924, plus free Buds 2.

    Breakdown:

    S23 Ultra was $1,769.

Traded my current S21+ for $275 and also received an additional $500 trade-in bonus. Total: $775

Then added a $50 code for marketing sign-up.

    $1,769 - $775 - 50 = $924

I already have Buds Pro, so thinking about selling Buds 2 to maximise savings.

    • +2

Did you receive an email about the buds 2 claim, i am still waiting

      • Not yet. It will happen eventually. They advertised it on Samsung Members so it's not like they'll just ignore claims and not honour it.

    • I just looked through the mobile deals section and can't find anything on this deal?

I would have been all over this - mind you the whole trade in bonus thing never works for me. Mine is s20+ and last time I tried one of those things it simply told me I was ineligible.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/771208 it was posted on 27 April. I first saw it on Markdown Addicts Australia's FB page and then here on 30th April.

Placed the order at 11:59 pm, just in time to qualify for free Buds 2 promotion.

Yeah I've heard the trade app is rubbish most of the time. It often doesn't recognise home address and then doesn't let you proceed.

I once used it a couple of years ago when it use to run a lot more diagnostic tests, including holding the phone in front of a mirror. I did all of that and it offered me like $150 for my Note 9. I just laughed and sold it on FB marketplace for $600.

This time I figured it was worth the effort as there's no way I would have been able to sell my 2 year old S21+ for $775. Surprisingly, I had no issues using it and it just asked a couple of questions and ran all the tests in the background.

    • CORRECTION: Phone was $1,749, not $1,769.

Lots of people complaining about bad service from Samasung support. Well here is my recent experiance. I purchased the Galaxy Z Fold 3 from the deal a few months ago through MobileCity. Within the first 3 months I accidentally dropped the phone in sea water. Tried to claim it on CC insurance (excess $400) which required a repair slip from an authorised repair centre. Took it to Samsung, they sent it to the repair shop to get a quote for the repair. Quote had to be paid upfront ~$70 (cant remember). Got a call from the repair shop a week later saying that only the charge port required replacement and the total cost would be ~$280. As it was less than the excess for the insurance claim, I proceeded with the repair. I confirmed with the repairer that nothing else was damaged. They confirmed it was ok. I had feeling that other components were also damaged as it was not wirelessly charging. Once fixed I went to the Samsung shop to pick it up, asked them to confirm that wireless charging was working. Came back after 30 minutes, checked the phone and could smell something from the phone. The Samsung rep said looks like the phone still has issues and requires replacement. The rep then said we can either replace the phone or give you a full refund. I received a full refund not long after, including the repair and quote costs as well.
TIL: Dropped new phone in salt water, sent it to repair, got refunded the full amount (including repair cost)
