OzRRP, if you read all the neg comments on that post OP.

      • +4

If something is expected to sell out (which the asus rog ally is)

Yet it hasnt, the preorder page for both stores is still up meaning demand isnt that high.

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: JB's page has been up for 18 hours now, compare that to actual high demand items which gets sold out in a matter of hours or minutes.

Edit: no idea what your last message said before you deleted them all but why private message me? (cant see the message only the notification)

  • Will it do my taxes for me?

    • +4

If the right program came out, probably could, but atm, similar functionality as a desktop pc for taxes.

  • -2

So not only are we now allowing newly released product without any sort of discount to be posted but it's also ok to post the same non discounted product multiple times from all available stores apparently.

  • -1

    Be still

    • +8

This comment coming from a serial pest who can’t even be bothered to share a bargain once.

      • -2

No just someone who won't take the corporate bone.

        • +3

I guess that’s why you are from Canberra

@beastontheroad: Reading classes are not that expensive

            • +4

@Lps: Yes I understand. You take everything and give nothing.

              • -2

@beastontheroad: I'll be here all week

                • +2

@Lps: Yes you’ll be flat out swapping among all your accounts doing your votes. To undo the negs you get. Very time consuming.

I’m getting sick of the inconsistency of moderation here.

A new item being added to the KFC menu gets (rightfully so) deleted because there was no actual deal listed. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/774603

But a new video game console being released is a “deal”, worthy of two posts in two days?

So new food product is not a deal, new electronic product is? It’s a mess.

    • +4

I'd assume the difference is that there's an ingrained awareness that just being able to get your hands on tech at launch is mission impossible.

Where as one would expect KFC to have their menu item in stock.

I appreciate PSAs on where products are available in the tech space, I don't in the fast food space /shrug.

That is incorrect, the deal was unpublished because there was no price information given. How does one vote on a deal that has no price and no sale terms?

      • +2

Yeah but OzBargain shouldn't be the place to find out about the general availability of new tech (unless it's the appropriate forum). There are plenty of sites out there that cover tech, they have you covered already. This site is supposed to be about deals.

    • A new item being added to the KFC menu gets (rightfully so) deleted because there was no actual deal listed.

Deal posted was "KFC Mashies are returning to Victoria. No bargain was listed.

The deal was reposted with details here: OG Mashies Fill Up $4.95 Until 4pm @ KFC

      • The non deleted one was for the “fill up” promotion. It offered a special beyond the fact that mashies are now available.

Compared to this “deal” where’s there’s no promotion listed at all. So if anything this deal is closer to the now deleted KFC deal.

        Again, inconsistent.

        • I think there may be a misinterpretation of what no bargain listed means. It's doesn't mean staff thought this was a bargain or not, it was the fact that there were missing components of the post.

So for that example you posted, it is linked to the Deal Posting Guidelines:

If you know there is a good bargain or two in a sale, catalogue or store, it's a good idea to mention one or even two bargains, in the title, and provide direct links where possible, to those items.

Deal posts that reference a sale, catalogue or store but don't provide enough information to find at least one bargain, may be unpublished. Deal posts that contains ambiguous or non descriptive titles such as 'up to 50% off sale', 'big clearance' or 'sale' may be unpublished unless specific items & prices are mentioned within the deal description OR a dedicated offer/discount such as '50% off sale' is present (preferably in the title).

Compared to this “deal” where’s there’s no promotion listed at all. So if anything this deal is closer to the now deleted KFC deal.

It is also not a requirement for something to be on special (as much as jv may say it in the comments). Staff are not gatekeepers of whether we think something is a good deal or not. It's the community's job to upvote/downvote/comment to determine which are good deals and which are not.

  • What’s “zero gravity cooling”? Is it when the fans get so loud that they launch you into orbit?

    • +2

It's a stupid name but it's actually really cool (pun intended).
They're very quiet, much better than steam deck. You'll basically never hear them unless you put your ear up to the exhaust

      • +1

If that’s the case with a game running then that really is impressive.

      • Isn’t there two fans in it? Steam Deck only has one. Don’t need to spin up as much to cool so less noise I would guess.

  • Heard something about 2hr battery life, which kinda defeats the whole point…

    • +1

I would have thought so too but I actually spend a surprising amount of time on couch with steam deck connected Charging while playing, so maybe same can apply here

      • Steam also has 2 hrs batteries?

    • +4

2 hours is probably running AAA games, there are different power profiles you can set it to depending on what you're doing

    • 40whr battery and 30w Max tdp. Add in screen consumption, speakers, fan and you could probably kill the batt in a little over an hour at full tilt on aaa games.

      • +2

There are reviews where they played Elden Ring on turbo mode and it lasted less than an hour.

IMO I’m waiting for v2 of this. It feels like they just slapped the hardware together and optimised nothing.

        • No optimisation will be good enough, its all about battery technology that is outdated.
They optimise 10% but dont forget new model will have new feature that will use 15% of batteries

        • Why v2 of this? The sd will have a v2 before Asus

  • RRP preorder,

better to order via JB hifi with discounted GC anyway

  • I am curious to know what platforms these new consoles are on. For this one as stated on the website it runs Windows but is the hardware powerful to run most recent games like a 4080? How does the handheld world work?

    • +3

It runs Windows so it's basically a portable computer.
It's powerful enough most recent games but of course, you have dial back settings.
An RTX 4080 will run games at 4k and/or high refresh settings at max graphics setting
This would be more like low to medium at 720p to 1080p

      • +4

I see, it is just a mini Windows computer. Thanks for the clarification.

        • +1

Performance is a little better than a gtx 1650 ultra book. This is basically an ultra book chip in a hand held device.

  • +1

    $1299, haha..Nah..

  • +3

Have the steam deck and was sort of considering selling it for the Ayaneo 2, but the price for that side-grade was a bit too much.

1080p screen for the Asus might push me over the line…

    Decisions Decisons….

    • +3

Install windows 11 on your deck's SSD first and give that a go. I was the same, but after using windows on a handheld for a week… yeah nah.
      Biggest things for me were
1/suspend is janky and half my games just crashed on wake.
and 2/ I felt like I was doing tech support just to install / launch a game

after a week I re-installed SteamOS and really appreciate it now!!

      • Does SD play well with bootlegged games?

        • +1

it's a PC so you can do whatever you want with it. SteamOS is Valve's version of linux and it has a desktop mode, so you can do whatever you want there, then add games / applications into Steam as a "non-steam game" to access it via gaming mode. Otherwise you can install windows 10 or 11 very easily - vavle provide all the drivers, and from there it's just a handheld windows PC

  • +2

this is just retail price.. where's the bargain here??

    • -2

Haven't you noticed? ozb is a place to notify people when things are in stock like "GPU" and the MOD allowed this.

    • No more bargains because of inflation, now it’s OzRRPNotifications.

  • More fundraising for resources to form the Republic of Gamers!

    Gamers rise up!

  • +1

Interesting that people are saying it is a Steam deck killer, but no mention of the aya neo which is priced a hella lot higher.

    • +3

Steam deck was the price/performance king, loss leading thanks to the steam store. Every other win handheld so far was exorbitantly more than the deck.

This is only like $100usd more than the deck but crushes it in performance (atleast on higher tdps).

      • +1

To be fair, if you were able to grab a SD 64GB at the usual 650-700 mark and then upgrade it with a 512GB SSD for around $90 then you still get more performance out of 800$. With that logic I'd wait for the SD2 tbh.

    • Relevance? If Windows improves the software this has serious potential.

      • I wouldn’t trust windows to hold my farts.

They’re not going to anytime soon.

  • +2

rrp not a deal at all

  • +2

I'm not for negging everything, believe it or not, but we really need to take a stand against thinking that full priced items that aren't even released yet, and thus, we have no idea how popular they will ACTUALLY be or how easy to find in the wild constitutes a deal.

  • Pretty cool device but I’ll stick with my Steam Deck for a while. Not sure if the ergonomics can compete with how comfy the Steam Deck is, but the internals are much better.

  • +1

Agreed that this is probably the best handheld gaming system on the market rn but not a deal. Also ASUS has not fixed the sticky button issue so buyers beware.

  • -2

1k for rgb light only. The screen is crappy as other Chinese cheap LCD. nah~

  • +1

    I don't like this pre-order RRP = bargain trend…

    • It's because new tech like this tends to sell out fast and the only other option is FB MP scalpers. We are here to help each other.

    • Downvoter(s) like to get screwed on release?

      Who knew…

  • +1

I'm not supporting ASUS again until they pick their act up and quit voiding warranties with the CPU/MOBO-fix crap they dished out.

  • $699 usd is $1,052 AUD. Not expecting bang on conversion and included tax etc, but that sucks. Feels like we get ripped..

    • +2

you forget that most states in the US add sales tax onto that price, its not like here where taxes are included in the tag price.

    • +1

Spot the guy who doesn't understand pricing in the US.

  • Sales tax from Best Buy is $32.98 USD. Spot the guy who can't read. Quote "Not expecting bang on conversion and included tax etc, but that suck"
