I'm Overseas, and Been Locked out of Many Australian Websites

Just wow.

I don't think I've ever experienced this before, but many websites i can't seem to get access to either through Wi-Fi or my European 5G data sim.

I can't even get access to Cashrewards, they responded to me saying that they're an Australian business and that's why it doesn't work.

I caught log into my BWS account either.

Has anyone experienced something like this before while overseas? Shopback managed to work, but I feel like a lot of businesses aren't letting me log in.

I'm getting page errors, it's just so bizarre.

I obviously can do shopping at any website that just requires a guest checkout and a credit card, but I can't actually do any shopping it seems for local businesses where I have an account, it's hit and miss.

Bit of FOMO, esp because I buy alot of wine 😭

Any work arounds, or I have to suck it up for another 3 weeks?

Is there a free one through phone? I have a Pixel 7 Pro, it says it has VPN.

If you're on a European holiday/junket why are you worried about buying wine in Australia?

To be fair, I'm only going to buy if there's a ridiculously good deal, but at the same time there's a certain retailer clearing reds at the moment and there's some pretty good buying.

So yeah, I still wanna buy a few things!

Just enjoy Europe and enjoy their wine.

Do Australian shit when you're back in Australia.

Unfortunately, when you lose out on a great deal it doesn't magically come back next month or next year with wine.

      • there's a certain retailer clearing reds at the moment and there's some pretty good buying.

        Link?

Ummm if I told people, then what would be left for me to buy? 🤣. Sorry.

@[Deactivated]: Well, you seem unable to order so a sale of good reds should go to another OzBer, at the very least. I'll toast your humanitarian effort.

Also, why aren't you posting it as a deal?

            • -1

@[Deactivated]: It's not as simple as people think.

              1. I ordered
              2. It's individual to select stores.(I'm from SA, so it wouldn't apply to 90% of people)
              3. I spend hours, days over weeks keeping track, screenshot and watching discounts.
              4. I put a lot of work, as per above that if I taught people there would never be any deals for myself.
              5. I'm not the only one who knows these systems.
              6. It couldn't be posted, you're talking about single bottles to maybe 3-4 bottles of each…Admins would remove to deals.

Like I said, I spend hours a week on hunting wine. I have 1,500 bottles. It's super time consuming, and I get nothing when it comes from wine from Ozbargain so I don't feel I owe the community anything in that regard.

I do post deals at times, and if it was a national deal with plenty of availability I certainly would post it!

You're talking limited quantities, and even worse most are individual to stores, this goes across Dan Murphy's, First Choice etc. This makes it extremely hard to post deals on here.

              Hope that helps.

I certainly am not selfish, I help alot of people in private on here! Someone who sold me Qantas Wine vouchers, I searched 15 stores in Brisbane for them to help them find clearance wine. I go above, when I can.

So you don't need any more, that's enough for 1 bottle a day for the next 4 years. Look again after 3 years unless you have cirrhosis with all that alcohol consumption.

@[Deactivated]: I hope you have taken in the huge glut of wine available . Its a never ending battle of who has the lowest price to clear it .
Please don't try to realize your asset value either . You might find no liquidity and losses .

Yet you post to complain about about not being able to access the very wine sales that you don't post as deals on OzB because

I get nothing when it comes from wine from Ozbargain so I don't feel I owe the community anything in that regard.

                The irony is strong

Most large Australian retailers use Akamai the major CDN, Content Delivery Network provider, they have blocks in place for various reasons including not being able to sell wine outside of Australia and in the EU case a lot of DDoS attacks come from their so they probably block it by default.
    Same goes for China.
So some of it is to prevent issues and some is regulations.
Eu in particular are pretty strict on what can be imported and sold which is why the Brits wanted out.
But that is another entire discussion besides as others said the EU have plenty of good wine.
If you end up in the UK you can buy Au Wine for cheap anyway from the supermarkets there.
