The best SSD I could find for very low idle power consumption, just purchased this for a second drive in my laptop. Amazon Australia price drop from around $260 for 2TB. Only $6 more than the 1TB option. Seems to be Au stock. I was eyeing up Amazon US for $230 recently.

Thermals are very cool. ❄️❄️❄️😎❄️

Better deals out there for computers where heat and power consumption aren't a concern.

Well reviewed (this is a slightly older review though): https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sk-hynix-gold-p31-m2-nv…

Before anyone asks, it's not compatible with PS5 or sega mega drive.

    I’m put a 500GB one of these in a 2025 MacBook Air.

If you have an d MacBook that can accept nvme, this model (despite being old Gen) is the gold standard for performance and power consumption.

    Nice find, OP!

      Hello, my future ozbarginer.

Haha I was confused about your comment until I re-read mine…

I was trying to type one-handed while walking around. Don’t type and walk, kids!

Will leave my original comment unedited for future generations of MacBook users.

It's not backward compatible with Mega Drive? How about Dreamcast?

    • How about Pippin, Saturn, Jaguar.

If only I’d invested that money in Apple instead.

  • I'm looking for RAMs for AM5 and SSDs. But not sure about buying overseas one because of RMA. Most of the companies do not provide world warranty. I cannot send it EU.

  • I wonder if that minuscule power savings of 0.25 to 0.5 watts during idle over other gen 4 SSDs is going to make much of a difference. Gen 4 would be future proof too and should perform better on gen 3 as well.

Good question. Probably not much difference. But maybe. The jury is out, some say its not worth getting somthing like the P31, some say the difference between low and high power draw SSDs can get ya up to an extra hour. I need battery life (and arguably got obsessed) so bought the gold p31. I have a Gen 4 socket too, but for my use the speed difference is much less important than battery life.

      • I was just checking on my intel mac, when idling it consumes 6 watts with screen at 50% bright. When scrolling the tomshardware page, it goes to 33 watts. So yes, if you are idling a lot and scrolling less, probably you might be getting 30 to 40 mins more if your existing device is already giving you 10 hrs. Maybe 15 to 20 mins if exisitng decive backup is 5 hrs. Thats just ball park figures.

        • Cool cheers, mine will be for a second drive (for data storage), so not OS so not running alot.
