[Resolved] amaysim Sim Activation Issue and Advice on What to Do Next

G'day,
I purchased Amaysim prepaid plan from a recent deal for an overseas visitor. As they do not hold a local bank card I made the purchase with my debit card and the sim card was purchased under their details (created an amaysim account for them). Sim card arrived last week and when they tried to activate it with their passport details it failed. I wrote to the Amaysim support and they requested their passport and visa letters which I provided. Then the support centre states, they can't activate the plan as their system shows the visitor is still offshore (wth?) and contact them again when the owner of the sim card has arrived.

Has anyone experienced situation like that? What did you do to get it resolved?

I'm going to ask them to either offer me a refund if they can't activate (because I paid for it from my bank card) or transfer the ownership to someone else in the family who is a local. Needless to say this is the most frustrated experience I have had with a local telco and the visitor is currently using a starter kit prepaid I bought them from local woolies because they cant get their prepaid plan activated.

—- Final Update —-

So after I requested for a refund, a different support person reached out to me and said, try to activate it using a friend of family's id details who has a local id (DL, passport). This was news to me because their phone support told me sim must be activated using the account holder's ID only and it's only after that it can then be transferred to a different person if need be. But anyway, as the last support person said I tried to re activate it using one of our DLs and it went through. So after such confusions and long wait the visitor can enjoy their prepaid plan, finally!

Has anyone experienced situation like that?

    nope.

  • Recent trouble activating when purchasing a $30 supermarket purchased SIM. The purchased pack activated and ported the number, but didn't apply any credit from the starter pack (required a 10 digit number but the Woolies voucher, separate from the invoice, which was not accepted by Amaysim's form (voucher only had 9 digits), and effectively forced me to submit a credit card after which Amaysim took the payment from that instead.

Woolworths collected and won't refund an opened pack
Amaysim has my number and now I have to follow it up with them

Starter packs are not credited automatically, supermarkets have to update the carrier when they are sold, and all that can take days. 0/10 customer experience, and someone getting a bonus for extra moneys made?

They sure must like people porting!

    • That sure must suck, sorry to hear. I feel like they are collecting more personal documents than what’s necessary at times. all that through emails even.

  • Has your visitor arrived? For overseas users, I think they use the immigration records to verify their identity. Otherwise, you could have just entered a random number as the passport details.

    • Yes they have. They infact are using a prepaid starter from woolies I bought them for which they had no issues activating. Amaysim was bought under the same number infact.

Anyway, they called and said contact dept of home affairs as to why the passport still shows up as offshore.

  • Update:

After numerous times of trying again and again they have still failed to activate the sim and I have asked for a refund as it's become way to ridiculous for a simple task. Needless to say i will be staying away from this demon service for the rest of my life.
