Thanks Ops, finally pulled a trigger

  • So if I only needed 2TB - this in 2tb or the 2TB Mx500 for $155 for game storage.

    • +1

You won't notice the difference so the cheaper one unless you want to pick or avoid a specific brand.

  • +2

This is $379 on the Samsung store which goes to $329 with the $50 newsletter voucher

Through Westpac Rewards this was $360 - $50 with newsletter voucher also working

Just waiting to see the Samsung daily EOFY deals before pulling the trigger through Westpac.

    • If we start strategizing that way, then maybe hold out
until the last few days of June, for EOFY sales?

      • That's the plan but every couple of days it shows as OOS so I'm wondering whether $310 is the best we'll see for now

    • why Westpac? Shopback thing?

      • Not related to SB - just looked under Rewards & Offers in the Westpac app and saw Samsung was listed there which takes you to the Samsung store via Westpac.

I'm not sure if the discounts will be the same as Samsung EPP though.

  • How does this compare to the cheaper 4tb NVME ones…..looking for a gaming hard drive for PC

    • +1

You'll notice basically no difference between SATA and NVME for gaming but if you have the slots and its cheaper you may as well get the NVME drives.

      • my issue is ive maxed out nvme slots but have 4 more Sata slots

i assume its economical to shove a nvme into an enclosure or somesort?

        • +1

Personally I would prefer to use internal SATA rather than external NVME. Wouldn't want to deal with external cables for a permanently attached drive.

          • +1

@eecan: u still need a adapter from nvme to sata though
at that point whether its in an enclosure or "internal" is simply a matter of connecting it directly to the mobo or via usb

            • @furythree: Oh no, I meant I would rather buy a SATA drive to hook into the free SATA slots.

              • +1

                @eecan: ohh! right

yeah the reason i said this in the first place was because for some reason the NVME drives are cheaper than sata!
                it makes no sense!

  • +1

FYI, if you have access to the Samsung EPP store (through your workplace etc.) this drive is currently $303.20 shipped ($295.20 for the QVO).

    • Unfortunately still $340 for me - guess it depends on the company

      • Hmmm, that's annoying.

      • Same for Samsung Edu - if anyones wondering. $341.10

BEWARE! This SSD is very prone to failure. Mine failed within 6 months, lost a decent chunk of data. Googled this issue and found it's very widespread and I'm not sure if they have fixed it.

Ive had one fine for 2 years now so i guess YMMV
