Why not get a Kindle Paperwhite for $199 https://www.amazon.com.au/Kindle-Paperwhite-8GB-6.8-inch-dis…

Or even the Signature Edition for $249 with auto adjusting front light and wireless charging https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08N2ZL7PS/

Kindle is easily the best ever since they became waterproof and made the screen flush so no dust gets caught in the bezel. It's dead easy to add any books you want with the Send To Kindle extension or Mac or PC, just right click your acquired book file and choose "Send to Kindle". You don't even need a memory card it's so easy.

Can't borrow books from the library with a kindle. We had two kindles, one died (drowned) so it will be replaced with a kobo so as to have the best of both worlds

With Send to Kindle the whole world is your library. But I understand some people don't like to sail. Authors do get paid something if you borrow ebooks from the library iirc.
