I am in Guildford, Sydney. I have a car worth $7000-$8000. I have never had any claims, and did not have insurance for last 3 years either. It's Toyota Yaris.
I have been quoted at least $200+ by all insruance companies, except Budget Redirect, which quotes $160 per month.
Why is it so high? My friends in Perth pay $70 per month for much better car than mine. I want to buy an insurance but I cannot pay that much.
How much do you guys pay in Sydney, especially Sydney west?

That’s how much I pay. $2100 for comprehensive insurance in south-west Sydney where no one can drive. ðŸ«
But my car isn’t $8K, and took out options. Plus it’s with NRMA, and haven’t taken out insurance in my name before
Our comp is around $700 (not Sydney).
When it’s 1/4 the value of the car you need to rethink comprehensive and consider Third Party Property.
BUT (usual warning) if you cannot afford to replace your car at short notice or can afford to go without a car for a while you should maintain comprehensive in case some uninsured clown won’t pay up after they hit you (or you crash).
I’d still have comprehensive in that case. Never not having it with my five not-at-faults in seven years in my old car alone; I ain’t chasing up idiots who can’t drive properly and drive into my car instead

Getting quotes in Sydney, nothing changes except my postcode. Cheapest I could get was $800.

Just your address can have a massive impact on cost. A friend of mine’s dropped a couple of hundred when they moved. Same car, just new address.
Can confirm; next door to my left has cheaper insurance. Probably because they’re on a corner block where it’s harder to do three-point turns
