    How bad are these?

    • +6

I had a quick look at these in JB the other week. Wasn’t really impressed tbh and would save the money for a better model. Picture looked kind of washed out and hazy. Could be the demo content wasn’t optimised but idk, I think you get what you pay for at this end of the market.

Saving for a budget model from TCL or Hisense makes more sense to me, if you value quality.

So true, this is not a deal except for the elderly that have vision problems or if you are really money poor. Definitely better to save for at least TCL or Hisense for passable quality.

        • +6

          BTW TCL own Ffalcon

          • -1

@spy: Quantas owns Jetstar, lots of companies own cheaper options in the market to get revenue from all types of customers. Easier to sell garbage without it diluting the main brand as well. Would not trust falcon in the slightest

Stay away from Hisense vidaa sucks

        • Why vidaa suck? I am thinking to buy U8ah .

@NayHtut: It's their own OS with very limited apps.

            • +3

@Tollery: The OS doesn't matter when you only use the TV for its HDMI outputs (Android TV box, consoles)

          • @NayHtut: Crap ui, not much you can install.

I have the u7. Never again, gonna sell it and get the tcl mini led. I also hate blooming which is noticable. This is a good tv for @jonsay. I doubt anyone else would like it

All about the way its setup and what they are playing.

My store had these with a 576p signal, contrast set at 10, backlight 100 etc etc… Dodgey as. An OLED would show the signal "terribleness" even better than this.

Set it up right, plugged in the HDMI cable from the TV next to it.
Looked better than pretty much everything else once set right. Not the OLED, thats another level (but they did have a Sony OLED setup badly).

My point being all the 4K UHD LEDs all have basically the same VA panels and will all look the same with the same signal. The cheapest TV will produce a mint 4K promo picture.

The difference is things like upscaling, motion processing, amount of RAM, quality of capacitors etc inside.

Comparing how they simply look with the store signal input is a waste of time.

Put a fast moving test file on a USB, setup the picture and use that to compare.
*Note - Be prepared to be treated like an alien for asking for a remote. But its the only way to see the lag etc.

don't retailers deliberately nerf the image on cheap tvs to upsell buyers on more expensive ones?

      hhow bbad aare tthese…

I bought a 40" Ffalcon for the bedroom and after some settings tweaks the picture quality is frankly amazing for the price, with great contrast and low latency for gaming. Appears to just be a good quality TCL panel without the bells and whistles. Although mine is a completely different model from a few years back so YMMV.

Can concur. Have used a few cheap Bauhns and an EKO and this is significantly better.

Far from good, but not trash.

      • Could you share what sort of changes you made to your settings?

  • Who is the OEM of this TV set?

    The Price: Extremely Low
    Everyone's Expectations: Even Lower

    • +1

So when they get it, the reality is better than their expectations :)

      • It's actually marketing genious

  • if you look at the review online the failure Rate is Quite High

This only has a 50Hz refresh rate. It then uses fake processing to achieve a "motion rate" of 60Hz.

Neither GG nor FF mention the refresh rate or "motion rate" anywhere on their websites, manual, or technical specifications, but JB have it in the details tab: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/ffalcon-55-55uf2-ultra-hd…

    • Can anyone confirm this? It'd be absolutely insane if even a budget TV couldn't do 60hz.

I assumed Jb meant that it could ALSO do 50hz…

      • -1

I assumed Jb meant that it could ALSO do 50hz…

If that were true, why call them different things?

        https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/fake-refresh-rates-samsung-c…

Some of the fake marketing buzzwords include: TruMotion, Motionflow XR, Natural Motion, Dynamic Motion Rate, and of course, plain old Motion Rate.

Had a older model 50" Ffalcon in the bedroom. Honestly can't complain. Gaming looks good. 4K is good. Obviously doesn't have HDMI2.1 or 120hz or VRR, but for general movies and light gaming it's hard to go past.
