  • Anyone wanna SHARE??? ( No points for getting two exactly same laptop )

    • +4

yea sure, you buy it and i'll take the free one :)

      • Yeah Mate ….as long as you pay ccwwayne half of the purchase price !

  • +8

I think HN is giving out a specific crap runout AMD Toshiba laptop for free. Not buy one get the same one free.

HN has whole heaps of AMD laptops.

    • that's how I understood it too from the ad on tv, you don't get the same laptop you get some basic model

  • +8

I think the laptop is fixed. In the add and the paper it says get THIS free. The free Toshiba Laptop features: Dual core processor, 4GB Ram, 320GB HDD, DVD Burner, Windows 7 Home Premium. In the fine print it says free laptop may vary between franchises. Once the free laptop stock is gone there is no more left. If you need to return the laptop you must also return the free laptop.

    • +1

Yes the "free one" is a fixed type, you don't get to choose. The local radio ad on the Gold Coast said it was a dual core AMD unit, no doubt a $400 special. Their Toshiba range above $700 isn't particularly great value either, so you're not getting the second one completely free in the final analysis.

    • +1

I tad sneaky IMO from HN seeing the add on TV you think buy on Toshiba lappy of $700 or more get equal to or less than Toshiba laptop for free eg get x2 Toshiba lappys RRP $799 each for $799 total

But now looking at add online I can buy a $799 core i5 for example & my free one is a crappy dual core AMD jobby worth $300-350 at MSY. HN advertising to get people in the door and there gear is always way over priced. I bought my my last HP PC at Officeworks there asking prices was $585 complete system (excl monitor) HN was $799 for same thing & I got office works to throw in free $29.90 speakers into the deal. Mr Harvey is generally a RIP all though you can haggle down often a fair bit but that because starting prices are through the roof & on these buy one get one free deals there would be no further discounting.

  • This is misleading, The ad clearly showed if you purchase a laptop over $700.00 you get a FIXED laptop which had a 320GB HDD and 4GB ram. It is not the same model you buy, you get a model that they are providing.

    Be careful.

stanas pretty much cleared the deal terms up. Well done (Y).

  • -1

not sure if it is misleading as they aren't stating that you get the same laptop free, you just get the specified laptop free that they show on the ad. I would say it is confusing though more than misleading

    • "Buy One Toshiba Laptop Get on Free" can swing both ways, either you may think you get the exact model free. Or you click on there may be more to it. Either way it's confusing.

      • +1

"Get on free"? Sounds like Harveys is diversifying into the worlds oldest business!

        • +2

According to Adrian Monk, the world's oldest profession is not what you think it is. :)

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eJyut6Pg9Y

        • According to everyones view of this free laptop, its just another thing this could be used for - building material or a doorstop.

      • Sounds like a call to the ACCC may be in order.

        Remember this?

        • To be honest it doesn't say anywhere on the ad 'Buy one and get the same pc for free' it stats "buy one and get THIS toshiba laptop free." There is no misleading content or anything.

Its any toshiba laptop with those specs not just one model there are like 10 different types. plus who cares your getting a FREE laptop anyways spend like $749 or $799 on one ITS FREE

  • just rang up , no ultrabook. NO deal :(

  • just read that ad as well and you are right.you will not get the same model for free but lower end models seems at mln for around $319 or something like that. bottom line is you cannot get the same 2 laptops for $700 . buy one get one free title is misleading

  • +8

I put the neg on this deal as the comment on the deal is misleading and to prevent people who only read the title to jump on the deal. i will remove my neg vote once the comment is corrected. Buy one and get a shitty laptop for free

    • spend 799 on one and get a free one, thats still good.

  • +12

Buy one shitty laptop and get an even shittier one free

    • +12

Sounds abit like my local mcdonalds, 1 Large salt with extra chips

    • Doesn't have to be a shitty one. Get a $899 or something with and Intel Core i5 processor 4gb ram 500gb-750gb 1gb graphics. Get a FREE laptop.

  • +1

I just had a chat with the online support, they said:
"This promotion is in-store only and if you purchase a Toshiba laptop over $700, you get a specific Toshiba laptop with specs of Dual Core processor, 4gb Ram, 320Gb, DVD burner and Windows 7 Home Premium."

    pretty shitty

    • +7

      The Toshiba Doorstop

    • +1

So the deal requires you to buy a Toshiba laptop, not any laptop, and you get a specific Toshiba doorstop? If that is what I'm hearing then that is indeed pretty shitty.

That is a pretty far cry from the post title….

    • No question it's a shitty deceptive ad campaign.

      But, that said… I'm kind of in the market for a basic door-stop laptop. And I'm a tight-wad OzB-er.

So, if anybody wants to take up HN's shitty deceptive deal, and sell me the doorstop for an unreasonably generous price, I'm interested.

Yeah, so their >$700 Toshibas are probably about $150 overpriced. So, how about, I'll give you <lowball> $200 </lowball> for the doorstop and you can get your half-decent machine for $50 less than the real-world going price.

Anybody interested in splitting the deal like this?

  • +4

It's an OK deal if you want a 2nd shitty laptop and dont mind paying a bit too much for the 1st laptop.

    • Or if you want to sell a 2nd shitty laptop to compensate yourself for having paid too much for the 1st laptop.

  • +4

Rubbish offer, over priced to begin with and use shoddy sales tactics to move stock.

  • +2

Saw this in the herald sun at 2am this morning and thought it wasn't worth wasting time posting this. It may pay to hold off another week. If you look at the HN Facebook page a person commented that her local store ( Darwin) were advertising a buy one get one free deal on the 2nd of September. The HN rep confirmed this was going to be a national sale. So there may be a better deal next weekend, but you never know what crap they will pull out of their hat.

  • is it a proper entry level doorstop? or a netbook? doorstop is ok i guess.. better than kick in the heiny

  • Went to HN broadway and got a damn dual core
To good to be true to get a ultrabook

  • is the shitty 2nd laptop allow ram upgrade ?

  • After hearing part of the ad on the radio I went in to check out the BOGOF and was disappointed to see it was not as I had hoped. But anyway, if you're still interested, at my local the free laptops were the C850/09V with Intel or an AMD version C850/01X.

  • the C850/09v is selling for around $460 at JB, surprised it wasn't a hokey netbook! basic yes, but still useable to some
i'm usually wary of HN marketing, but this IS a good if you were going to buy a laptop from HN anyway and felt uncomfortable haggling over a cheaper price, or you simply like paying full blown retail for the paid laptop, in which case what are you doing here?? maybe www.ozfullRRPstooge.com is more to your taste….

  • Went to the Wiley Park store to pick up my OMO and did a search on the web for a laptop that fits the specs.

    $699 Toshiba Ultrabook with I3 + 4GB Ram, 320GB Hard drive

went in to the store with the other one $799 i5 3 toshiba as my to be purchased, did they have stock etc etc yes they do.

Then went to the sales person and argued that the 699 meets all the listed specs… they say I3 are not included, I then asked to see the conditions and terms, nothing stating that they are excluded. I then attempted to push the point that it met the specs of the deal.

They didnt budge and then they showed me what model numbers where available. he opened the first one, no stock in this store, then he opened the second one and that had a 500gb and a B930. I proceeded to argue the point that this laptop doesnt meet the specs advertised. he then says you should be happy with 500GB. At this point i was satisfied that this deal is rubbish and bullshit. They didnt have anything under 1099$ on display yet had stock.

Deceptive advertising so it's a neg from me (no surprises being HN).

Went to North Ryde Harvey Norman and bought HP laptop and got Compaq laptop for free. If buy Asus, you get free Asus. If buy Toshiba, you get Toshiba for free if the laptop costs more than $700.

It seems the offer in-store includes Toshiba, HP and Asus. Not sure about other Harvey Normans. TV and paper only offers Toshiba. But two other brands were available in North Ryde.
