  • $157.79 with SEOFY22 if you have ebay plus

  • Hmm interesting. Just picked up my new KJ classic iii yesterday so i am tempted.

The fan doesnt blow ash and things around?

    • Nah not that powerful

  • +1

Ive had this for 2-3 yrs.

    Best thing ever!

Good for long cooks where you dont have to sit around and get worried that you are over or under temps.

Its set and forget like a sous vide machine

Only thing is its not waterproof so you need to keep an eye on the weather.

  • With the KJ so stable, for some cooks I think I'd want to use this just as for the ambient / food temperature monitoring without the temperature control.
One of the app images shows a fan on/off option, can anyone please confirm whether this model does indeed have the option of just monitoring temps and not controlling them?

Seems like the best of both words if it does, and a better option than the Inkbird temp monitors I'd been looking at.

    • +1

just monitoring temps and not controlling them - YES.
You can turn off the Fan switch tin the app so it does not turn on/off.

      • Awesome, thank you.

  • I've got this, it seems to forget fan control after a couple of hours and starts adjusting/maintaining temps with 100% fan speed only. Power cycle fixes it.
I think it's common issue as since reviews state the same.

Other complaint is no lid open detection, still when temp drops sure to the lid being open it increases fan speed.

I would shop for a different brand if I was looking again.

    • I'm not sure what comes close in price. Some of their eothers are easy 300-500.

      Any suggestions?

      Kamado joe 2.

      • Smartfire owner here, with zero regrets on that purchase. Local dev/support also.

Works very well on my Kamado Joe.
Also a much nicer 'packaged' solution than this option

It does look good. But it is $375 so different price point again.

Does it detect open lid etc.

          • +2

@3DL3: I have a Smartfire as well, great product. It does have open lid detection 🙂

But it is $375 so different price point again.

it is, and as an ozb'r i have many overpriced purchase regrets
The smartfire is one of my least regretted purchases ever ;)

  • Crap. I bought one and it had worse temp control then the vents. Buy the tip top, it's better at maintaining and cheaper.

    • What is the tip top?

  • +1

Been waiting for the ISC-027BW to be officially for Australian market…maybe if we can arrage a group buy to fill the 500min order limit for $50per unit…

  • Anyone had experience connecting to a Char-Griller Akorn? If yes did it fit ok?

    • +1

Yes, I have this combo. No issues at all.

The kit comes with a few lower vent metal flume plates, with one for the Akorn. You wiggle into the lower vent sliding rails. Just note that the plate is flat in the kit and doesn't match the curvature of the lower slider.

I gave this a little bend along the length of the plate with my hands to allow it to conform to the arc of the lower vent's sliding rails. After this, no issues.

      • Great! Thanks for sharing

Its one of those gizmos that every newcomer wants but does not need.. the kamado style grills are just too efficient at maintaining temps …I bought one of these fans without bluetooth or mobile app for 3 times the price when I started ..still have it and used it for the first year but now never use it..once a temp is set +/- 10 degree centigrade is the variation from opening the lid to check or adding charcoal for a long cook..the fan on the other hand does result in more charcoal usage and gives the exact same result ..a joetisserie may be a better or rather more uselful purchase depending on your usage or buy a bluetooth temp probe for notifications if thats all you want..when I bought an auto temp controller.. there wasnt that much info on low and slow or hot and fast and I suppose even if there was I would have still bought it since I like gadgets …well may save someone a few bucks

    • Agree. You're paying for (percieved) peace of mind…and at the very least, a guarantee that you won't smother your low slow burn (which a temp probs will indirectly tell you)

    • Agree, bought this for kamado, used a few times. Now only use without fan control enabled.
For me, the fan would ramp up when temp very close to target, then temp would drastically overshoot and the fan would be off for next 2 hours as temp gradually returned to target.
Fan would then ramp up again and temp again overshoot.

The kamado can maintain temps so well, this fan control is not required and was more annoying than helpful.

I still use the temp probes, alarm etc. Just no fan

    • +1 on the Joetisserie. My family don’t love American BBQ but they really enjoy the lamb legs, beef ribs, chickens and gyros that I’ve spun on the Joetisserie. I’ve found it much easier to use than the Bunnings spit on cold, damp days in Melbourne too.

  • I live near the coast and my KJ3 lives down the side of the house in what can best be described as a ‘wind tunnel’. The Inkbird works pretty well in this environment to keep temps stable for extended periods of time when smoking. As mentioned before, the device has no lid open mode so I need to make sure I turn it off when opening the bbq or else it will stoke the fire and send temps skyrocketing! I find a 10 minute timer on my phone is about right to remind me to turn on the fan again.

The Inkbird has also been useful when getting the grill up to temp when working from home as I’ve been able to light the fire and go back to work without needing to worry about adjusting vents etc. I mostly don’t do this anymore since I picked up a propane weed torch from Amazon that gets the fire going in half the time!
