I wish you knew the formatting and content rules for deals…

haha.. I wish you were not so fussy about free info… ;)

      • "but, If you know, you know!"

        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • +3

    Price in title please

  • Seems excessive for my 1br apartment but why not…

  • Thanks for sharing. Been on the lookout. Anyone know how ARC compares with DIRAC?

  • AVR for movies, dedicated amp for music :p

I have a Marantz SR7011 and I guess it does the same power output 140w RMS into 8Ohms

    • Sure if you have the space and budget.

But movies are better with a dedicated power amp too.

Then you have the conundrum, which system to I listen to this live concert recording from, the one with the picture or the one without?

    • +1

From memory, the main 5 channels are dedicated to 140 WPC (A-B amplification) and the remaining ones are 60 or 80 WPC with Class D amplification. Audioholic did a bench test and came out pretty good , Link - https://www.audioholics.com/av-receiver-reviews/anthem-mrx-7…

    • Why not both?

Avr into power amps, at least for fronts for music.

      • I just reduced my AVR setup to only movies. Dual subwoofers is the best part. It hits pretty low and is loud enough around 60db mark. Neighbours make a lot of noise so they don't mind if I watch a movie in the middle of the night.

I have setup music in my WFH, Edifier S3000pro, REL T9x and Gustard x16 DAC. I am pretty happy with my decision to not listen to music on AVR anymore.

SR7011 does 165w RMS into 8Ohms on all discrete a/b channels. That was the selling point for me. I don't really use the x32 settings like dynamic settings after you run the sweeps. I try to have auto tune do the least work.

To answer your question, audio parh should have less links in the chain.

        • Yeah cool!

Was just a suggestion. I also have separate DAC amp and Atmos avr setup, and a single sub hits over 100db, let alone the two. I like the noise treatment in my theatre for my music at louder volumes though.

  • +4

Ok but how does this compare to a live symphony orchestra in my house every night, which I can also afford?

    • +5

Takes up less space and doesn't use your toilet.

  • That's a pretty decent price, this has extra processing channels compared to the obvious Denon X6700H / Marantz SR8015.

SR8015 would be about the same price, X6700H is cheaper at $3990.

    Comparison: https://www.zkelectronics.com/compare/denon-avc-x6700h/uk/an…

    • The better sound and far superior audio correction (ARC) is worth the $1000 difference. Used a Denon and Audyssey for a while and whilst it's "fine" ARC is far better. In terms of best to worst for common correction, it is:

      1. Trinnov
      2. DIRAC
      3. ARC
      4. Audyssey

That said, the Denon at that price is great value and has more power per channel than the Anthem.

      • +2

I believe the new Denons and Marantz can have Dirac (may have to pay a fee for that feature)

        • -1

That model hasn't got an announced upgrade path (it's believed it won't, only the Xx800 models). Plus it's not DIRAC Live its a bastardised version. Plus it's AUD $380 extra

          • @mxlmxlmxl: Is that the case for Marantz as well? or just Denon? I didnt realise it wasnt Dirac Live

      • Is ARC really that good? I have a cheaper Yamaha and used the ARC system. I ended up disabling all post processing and it sounds better. Adjusted the speaker positioning by ear

        • Ideally, if you have great speakers, great placement, and great room acoustics, you don't need correction.

Generally, all corrections can be "great" for the right user. ARC is definitely better than Audyssey.

      • I've got the X6700H & pretty happy with Audyssey XT32 :)

Dirac would have been nice, I'd probably have gone with the Onkyo RZ70 if it was released ~18 months ago when I got the Denon.

        • I'm in the same boat. Have an X3700H. I will be upgrading it in the next 6-12 months, just sussing for what. Current models didn't add much. I am hoping some of the correction advancements brought by better processing and AI will be in the new models.

In reality, I think I am succumbing to is I want a Trinnov ha

      • +1

Any particular reasons DIRAC is better than ARC?

        • I'd recommend looking at places like AVS forums and searching, people way more intelligent than I will give a better answer.

In general, between correction, positioning, not losing details, clarity and also accuracy are the main reasons.

That said, I'd opt for ARC as I like the interface and I am happy with its results and next (endgame) is a Trinnov.

  • enough bass for my rented studio?

  • I'm confused about the HDMI spec.

    From the specs:

    ENGINEERING:
    • HDMI v2.1
    • HDMI 200hz 8K upgradeable

    FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS:
    • HDMI 2.0b & HDCP 2.2

    But then there's a specific model named "8K" that's $7699
    https://www.sightandsoundgalleria.com.au/product/anthem-mrx-…

    • +1

The new models now support 8K but the rest is the same. One can update this model with a new 8k card but no point as no 8K content and compatible projectors are available (at least one most can afford haha..)

      • Although you're right, and I'd still rarely get use from it, 8K also brings support for 4K@120Hz which is nice for the odd high framerate game on modern consoles (though that is quickly becoming wishful thinking as games are starting to not even support 60fps)

        • Economy so bad it's killing framerates.

      • Any idea how much the update will cost?

  • I have a Denon 6500h, is this a worthwhile upgrade on that? I guess the main difference is ARC.

    • +2

TBH, I haven't heard Dennon 6500h so can not comment but I have listened to a lot of Home Theaters with various receivers and I can tell, once you hear and get used to Anthem, it will be hard to revert to anything else. Before Anthem, I constantly had the urge to add amps, change speakers, add acoustic treatments etc. to get the best sound possible but it all went away after purchasing this unit. I immediately noticed, amazing channel separation, very dynamic sound, and a wide front sound stage; felt like I bought new speakers haha..

I moved from A6A to Anthem MRX1140. The Arc is the difference I believe! Also, Anthem is very modest about the power rating, unlike other companies. Coming from Yamaha, my ears were used to very uneven high bass and when I set up Anthem initially, I thought I made the mistake as it was lacking bass, which was an easy fix by increasing the room gain and bass boost. Try to find a retailer who sells Anthem and hear it out yourself.

      • +1

I basically wont be using the onboard amps, as i have active speakers for the fronts and surrounds and i have a couple of good power amps for the rest of the channels. Ideally i could get a processor but theyare so pricey ,and so i have had to resort back to using the preamp stage of receivers instead. I figured the Anthem with ARC would be the closest thing to a great processor anyway.

only catch is i noticed it doesnt have more than 2 sub support (which a lot of the newer ones seem to do up to 4) and also it doesnt have Auro 3D and DTS:X Pro. my Denon actually has Auro 3D. But then again its like you said, i think the sound and ARC benefits of the anthem will more than make up for missing some features…Just not sure its worth an extra 5k upgrade.

        • +1

You can always use the splitter for extra output for the subwoofer or an even better option is to have a mini DSP. If you have active speakers and external amps, I would then suggest AVM70 but again it is expensive. I saw a 1-year-old AVM70 sold on FB marketplace for $3300 a few weeks ago; so that's an option if the budget is tight.

I heard Anthem (AVM 70) first time with active speakers, with no Dolby Setup and believe me I could hear the sound coming from places where there were no speakers; it is that amazing!

The thing with ARC is it is highly customizable. You can run the calibration and adjust the calibration file based on your liking before uploading it to the receiver.

Also, from what I heard Aura 3D is bankrupt so I do not see any future for it.

          • +1

@simplypankaj: Damn, AVM70 for $3300 is exactly what i needed :(. Yeah I did hear Aura 3d had gone bankrupt, such a shame. As I did like it. I wonder if that means newer devices will no longer have it, I noticed the new Marantz still have them.

I was already using splitters for my subs, But i figured when the amp has sub outputs then those will be more directly configured by the room correction while splitters wont .

            • @lonewolf: Best I can find a new AVM70 8k is around $5500.

      • I'm with you. I had the MRX720 but needed 2 more channels to power outdoor speakers so got the Denon 4500H (720 went to media room) and not matter what I do, I cannot get it to sound as good as the MRX720. Shame Anthem only does 7 or 11 powered.
Am tempted but no not sure how much I could get for the Denon.
