  • Use google, check you local state registration authority for the how to guide.

    • They probably don't have access to Google if they're posting here. Must be in country where it's blocked.

      • google has been blocked to most ozbargain users

    ppsr
    ppsr
    P.P.S.R.!

    • Also since OP is in NSW, checking the odometer would be beneficial as well

And use the government one for $2, not all those private companies re-selling the same content for $20+ per report.

    last step
post on ozbargain that you got scammed and got a lemon

  • as above , $2 PPSR check

also get those 999 points check pre-purchase inspection + rwc, with expectation of still getting a lemon after that.

    1. Reconsider your need to purchase if you are not buying a japanese or korean car
    2. Get number plate and/or VIN of car you're wanting to buy.
1a. if in NSW, check if odometer has been rolled back. If Yes, move onto next car
    3. purchase a $2 PPSR check. this will tell you if the car has finance/money owing, has had any major damage reported & repaired. You have stated that you want to deal with neither of these things, so if money owing/damage reported, move onto next car.
    4. Set up a test drive and test drive the car.
    5. Book a pre-purchase inspection and get the car inspected. If all good, proceed to next step.
    6. Transfer of licence forms are usually available at a post office. Fill them in, give bank cheque, send off forms.
Not sure if NSW has an online Equivalent to WA's DotDirect, but given you guys have digital drivers' licences I would imagine so

Step 1. Always assume the seller is out to scam you.

Sadly this is how things have changed the past several years.

Nothing is sacred …. scamming has become quite the vocation!
