So until these things can climb stairs, you would need two or more of them for split level and multistorey configurations.

    • +4

Yes, or build a small lift.

      • I'm sure in a few years they will be capable to go up and down stairs, and clean the stairs while they are at it.

Will be interesting to see what engineers come up with.

        • -2

In a few years? We don't even have decent robo vacs as it is right now. Maybe in 10-20 years we might have a much larger device that can go up and down stairs without damaging them, won't be for a very long time though.

          • @onlinepred: Doesn't have to be a complicated solution.

They don't have to walk the stairs, just need to flip or swing to the next step.

Probably need 2 flips to clean, first flip to go up or down, second flip (sideway) to get the brush side down. But coverage will be poor, as there are a lot of corners it can't get it.

        • +2

Sooner get robotic maids from Boston dynamics than robot stair climbing vacuums.

          • +5

@ATangk: There are big chances that "robots from Boston dynamics" will "gently ask" you to clean up place.

        • +2
          • @Antarius: now thats cool, i'd be happy if it could just climb my 2.5cm doorway threshold lol

        • This one would like be doing more than vacuum.

          https://youtube.com/shorts/SgE6D--y_3o?feature=share

      • Or a ramp

    • +2

It's not a perfect solution, but it does have multi level mapping - just have to take it up to the next floor when that floor needs doing, let it do its work, then bring it back down again.

How does that compare to the ECOVACS DEEBOT N8 Robot Vacuum Cleaner which is 60% off ($999 down to $399)?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08YY4ZPNB/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0…

    • +1

Don't know about Deebot, but would stay away from Roborock products. They are horrible with support with old devices. I have an S5 ( with mopping). It does the job well ( if and when it runs). Just into 2nd year of the product, a major update screwed it up. I had to chase Roborock support for 6 months to just get it moving. Now its got so many map issues. Every time I have to start cleaning, the charging location changes and the Robot is lost. Dread going back to to Roborock support after my experience with them. They only provided a fix when I chased retailer to provide me a replacement under ACL.

      • +11

Had exactly the same experience but with ECOVACS. They must all use the same shitty support company in Australia. I would never buy a robot vacuum if it wasn't bought from and backed by Amazon support.

        • +1

My ECOVACs is a life changer. But it does break down regularly. It’s from Godfreys and they try to enforce the “12 months warranty only”.

Next time probably buy from Amazon their support is chefs kiss

        • +1

Same experience from ecovacs. The software kept moving my dock and rotating the map for no reason creating a Frankenstein map. Then it wouldn't restore the saved map to correct that. The dock thing was the most frustrating thing to me. It would never put the dock back in the correct place without multiple power offs, restores and recleans.

      • +4

The roborock products are currently the best in the business, the roborock Australia company is just straight horrible, avoid at all costs, stick with amazon and their retailers.

    • +2

They dont compare, the Q7 is a significantly better robot, but its also way more expensive.

      • Better in specs or better in real life cleaning and reliability? That is the real question.

        • +1

Both, the software is amazing for the roborocks (best in their field) the cleaning is better, better mapping/sensors, better reliability, but Again its a different price bracket.

  • Can you buy separately the dust bin storage (to make it a Q7 Max Plus +)?

  • Is this the modern day equivalent of the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum V1?

Mine has worked tirelessly and flawlessly (well, I replaced the laser recently which was cheap and a 15 min job) with my dog hair filled apartment for years, and still holds more than enough charge for 1-2 full sessions. One of the best purchases I ever made.

    • +3

Agreed - bought a new Dreame Bot D9 Max (needed a second for double storey house) a little while back and the V1 beats it hands down. First time I've spent more on newer technology and it's actually gone backwards in capability.
After that purchase, I decided to buy a new battery for the V1 and it's running better than ever!

      • +2

Nice! It's great how modular they are.

I did wonder whether some of the newer ones could be downgrades, gating off features with limited firmwares, etc, to upsell the more expensive models.

I encouraged friends and family to get the Xiaomi back when they were ~$350 and most of them love them (one friend with plush carpets, lots of obstacles, stairs and children's toys was slightly less enamoured but that's user error IMO).

      • Same experience. The D9 doesn't work at all anymore - some sort of sensor error that I can't clear, even with deep cleaning.

    • +1

Agreed, Great Unit, Just got a Botslab 360+ for around $400 for upstairs, works pretty well so far, time will tell if it lasts as long as my Xiaomi Gen1 which is still going strong.

    • +1

Yep, my og Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum died a few months back, replacing the battery doesn't help. Got a Roborock and it's a decent upgrade, navigation is much improved, it's no longer tangling on cables/socks, or accidentally closed a door and lock itself in the room like the og robot. It also remember your room layout and support virtual wall on the app.

    • Yes, mine still going strong with battery replacement although a bit quirky at times reporting being stuck when there's nothing in the brush head. Getting this one though as a backup and to avoid moving to the next level.

    • I have the V2, and similar to you, has worked extremely well over the past few years.

I come across the laser issue every now and then, how did you change it?

      • +1

My laser (the orange part on top) was having trouble spinning and despite pulling it apart and cleaning, it eventually gave up with Error 1.

Bought one of these from Aliexpress:
        https://m.aliexpress.com/item/1005003394292206.html

Note this part is specific to the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Gen 1.

To install this you ONLY need to unscrew from the top, first the lid then around the laser, NOT the much more lengthy full disassembly from the bottom.

The laser module itself just plugs right in, no soldering wires or anything like that.

        It’s really quite a simple design. 👍

  • Can I buy this https://www.mobileciti.com.au/roborock-s7-maxv-auto-empty-wa…
To make it Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra?

  • +2

While it's an ok unit there are similar units for cheaper like n8 or even the yeedi vac 2 pro if you mostly need a mopping unit with light vacuuming.

Also the q Revo is releasing soon. A much more complete unit with the option of getting a base with water exchange and dust emptying.

    • I would avoid yeedi vac 2 pro.. Horrible product. Didn't make accurate maps, missed areas, would not find base station, would get lost, would keep bumping into walls and finally faulty sensors in less than 3 months time. Returned it. From online research, i also found similar issues with deebots too

      • I have same or similar issues. How did you get a refund after 3 months of use? Wouldn't they try to do more troubleshooting or send a replacement first m

        • No, I first tried to contact their support which somehow redirected me to their EU support who then asked me to contact Amazon directly for AU support which was great relief for me. Amazon sent me a return label and refunded me.

  • How do these not to know to wash the carpet or rug or mat that we have laying down?

I have the original Xiaomi robovac that's getting long in the tooth now, so looking to upgrade

    • How do these not to know to wash the carpet or rug or mat that we have laying down?

      There is two parts to this;

      • No mopping areas (will not mop areas marked on the map and will not go there based on LIDAR/Carpet sensor) available on this model (q7).

      • The newer models (q revo, s7, s8) actually have a rising mop (7mm from memory) that will raise up so that it does not drag on the carpet.

      • Rising mop is a scam. I have an S7 MaxV and very low pile carpets. It very much drags it along the top of the carpet “raised” which is not enough.

        • no carpet detection?

          • @capslock janitor: No it raises the mop, but it’s not enough to not touch the carpet. When mopping I now have it configured to ignore carpeted areas instead.

  • +3

I finally did it. I've been holding off on buying a robo vac, but with dust up to my thighs, it's finally time.

    • +2

you're finna cull the dust bunnies just like that?
wont someone think of the dustbunnies

  • I have the s5 and its amazing but the mop function is pretty average, i find it leaves smudges, I read that this is alot better but the s5 is a better vac for pet hair etc, anyone have one of these? hows the mop function? Any issues with vacuuming compared to the S5?

  • Ecovacs N8 is currently on sale for $399, pretty good deal I have ever seen.

  • Does anyone know how this compares to the S5 max?

  • +1

Got the Roborock S7, failed vacuum - called support 3 days before warranty expired (though it failed before this time..at 1yr, $1800 ish paid to mobicity for it), warranty phone support promised contact and took email address about 10 times as they couldnt understand my very easy-to-understand ausenglish accent, yes we got it correct but… never heard from them. Emailed next week, no response, then emailed with ACL requirements, got immediate response with return label. Now need to package the bloody thing up and send it off for who knows how long, for a 'common' problem (error 18 fan error) as far as google is concerned….. beware, shocking post sales support. I wouldn't buy another from a company that doesn't have half decent support…

    • +1

Buying through Amazon should be a lot easier with returns

      • How so? Do AZ deal with warranty claims directly?

  • That's hellla cheap wtf

I bought S5 Max for 800 black Friday maybe a year or mroe ago

But I personally prefer S5 Max for intercompatible parts with previous vers

Edit- actually 750 if I include the $50 ebay voucher which idk where tf I put it smdh

  • My wife has been othering me for ages to get one of these, anyone recommend one for long dogs hair.

    • Our picks up a full dustbin of labrador hair at least once a day, as well as my wife's long hair. With long dog hair you'll probably have to untangle it more regularly but it's not hard, similar experience as a Dyson motorhead but easier.

      • +1

Thanks, based on your feedback, i bought one..

I have a golden retriever who sheds a stupid amount weekly.

        • +1

I'm sure you'll love it! If not, you know where to find me :D

          • +1

@Woodyg22: Well I have had the robot vacuum for 3 days, and I have to say holy crap its amazing!

This is probably the best appliance I have ever purchased, and beats my fridge (water, ice, and crunched ice), and my airfryer.

  • -5

these things are chinese spyware.. I changed my wifi router recently but my xiaomi robot seems to still be online somehow even though it doesn't know the new password.

It also gives me notifications on my phone for when the job is complete when im out of the house and not connected on wifi on my phone.

    • Sounds like you got the supercomputer add-on, not worth the hassle imho. I thought I was clever getting the nuclear battery but last night I caught my vacuum attempting to detonate. Such is life.

  • How is this compared to the s6 maxv? Used that before and is pretty good. Was thinking of getting this for upstairs since we recently changed from carpet to laminate.

  • Thank you just ordered! Been on a lookout for the Q7 max and this is the best deal I’ve seen by far.

  • is it an upgrade over the S5?

    • +1

I believe so. I watched a YouTube video shared by a fellow OZ bargainer that compared multiple robot vacuum and the Q7 max/Q7 came out top above the S5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53-ce8K8aTo

The other thing that made me go for this was the rubber main brush. My current Xiaomi original robot vacuum keeps stopping with the “please remove and clean the main brush” which is so annoying - I’ve got pets with fur and family with long hairs. So hopefully this is a game changer for our household.

  • Question on use. Do you normally operate the Q7 Max without the mopping pad and only add the pad when you want to mop. Is there a mopping mode that will have a different map to avoid carpets?

  • +1

How's S7's vibration mop? Does it really work any better than Q7? I know it vibrates etc but how's the result? Any better than 'dumb' mop?

    • +1

As per some reviews, no difference as such.

      • Yes saw the 'sonic mop' thingy but wanted to get how good or different it is in real life if someone had seen it in action, but after watching vacuum camparison video above, it appears that 'sonic mop' does not really do any better job than what Q7 has.

I used yeedi v2 pro's mop and it was the best in the industry in my opinion but it's software and mapping ability sucks which makes the robo vacuum unreliable so returned it

  • How does this compare to an S50. I have that and considering to upgrade

  • Would this work in a medium sized home, don’t care about upstairs. We have a cat and a toddler, will it get stuck if things (toys/etc) move around a lot?

  • Anyone with Roborock mop vacuum, adds any cleaning liquid to water reservoir or just plain water? I like to add some sort of cleaning liquid if there's one suggested.

    • I don't believe you're meant to add anything to the tank. I have started experimenting with adding cleaner to just the cloth, who knows if it made a difference

  • Ordered on the 12th with an expected delivery date for today, but received an email this morning cancelling my order due to no stock. Customer support said that if I can find the item in stock they will reimburse the difference in purchase price, but haven't found anything yet :/

    • Similar situation for me, my package was lost according to the tracking information, they gave me a refund.
