Please stop spamming our tagging system.

    • +3

This is the only site I’ve ever seen discourage relevant tags, most of the time the battle is to get people to add them.

      • Relevant tags? Blue paint (are we going to have a different tag for each colour ever named)? Graffiti? grafitti (misspelt tags are relevant?) Painter & spray painter (spray cans are not painters)? Painting & Spray Painting (no, that's art, spray cans don't paint)? Primer (cosmetic)?

How about OP omitting Free Shipping from the tags? Now that is a relevant tag because this store usually charges shipping.

        • Tags are generally used for discovery, helping people find things at a more granular level than categories set up by the site because they are emergent from users.
So what if there is a tag for blue? It is a deal for blue paint. Synonyms for the item, like spray painter, spray can, spray painter are ways to assist someone looking for the item who might have different search terms than the ones you came up with.
I don’t think they are meant to be rationed.

          • @mskeggs: This goes counter to what the tagging system is for.

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:tagging_guideline#no_…

            No Ambiguous Tags
DO NOT use multiple tags that mean the same thing, which just bloats our database and adds complexity, which makes harder for other members to find deals. Please also limit the number of tags to less than 10 (although ideally, less than 5). Having too many ambiguous tags just make a deal look spammy.

Tags are meant to categorise the deal or product, and not describe. Tags [such as these] that add no value to the deal [and] will only make the deal look more spammy to users.

For example, if "blue paint" is to be accepted, then which blue (what is its exact name and colour value)? Is the paint oil or water based? Is it matte, gloss, or semi? The list of specifications can be endless.

            • @alvian: Huh. I would have bet my life one of the desired uses of a tag on ozbargain was to provide results if somebody searched for notebook even though the category is called laptop.

I’ve been using them wrong too, as aids for people looking for things rather than just to repeat the categories.
That clears it up for me.

  • Man did you read my mind?
I literally just put "Spray Paint" on my shopping list (and I didn't even really care what colour - this blue looks fine)

    • Thank you. the Rustoleum 2x is an awesome paint, you’ll love it

    • I was at repco on the weekend they had their cheap paint 3 cans for $10. Seems ok

      • +1

Rustoleum is my main go to - seems to stick better than the cheaper stuff (probably cause it's a paint + prime sort of thing)

  • Great product if you want to blue yourself.

  • Hey Rep, can these be used on Motorcycle fairings?
