Been keeping an eye out on the new Tamagotchi Uni prices for the kiddos till the release date (15th of July) and now these things are eligible for Prime shipping.
It is more expensive then the direct Amazon.com price converted to AUD ($87.40) but that entails with the enforced Amazon GlobalShipping price (28.79).

Previously, these things have been having preorder prices hovering around 113ish-129 depending on the Amazon AU algorithm.
The Gamesmen have it for 129.95 RRP but the preorder/product links are now dead

Not much point getting this if you don't have Prime as they will slap on a $18.34 shipping cost, but that's a decision for the reader.

Pink Version can be found here - https://www.amazon.com.au/TAMAGOTCHI-43351-UNI-Pink/dp/B0C6R…

Update: Marked as expired for now as amazon au seems to have revoked the free shipping component which defeats the purpose of this post.

These were ~$50 in Prime sales a couple of days ago 😬

      Not these ones.

That was the Pix Party. It even specified in the description of that post that it’s not the Uni

      • The 'uni' was listed late and briefly on Wednesday in the US Prime stacky-stacky fest (caveat was you had to buy 2x items from their list).

  • +1

I still can’t justify that much. I’ve got a Pix Party coming from Prime Day.

I might get the Uni next Prime Day if it gets marked down🤞

I pre-ordered one of these for my daughter's birthday a few months back, just got notified it will be delivered tomorrow.

  • For some reason the delivery isn't showing as free for me on the purple one even though i have prime :(

    • Same.

    • not getting this free international bit underneath the prime logo?

you would think there wouldn't be any restrictions for any other prime users.

      • Yes, but upon checkout it's not apply $0 shipping.

        • whelp, well that sucks - amazon has revoked the prime shipping for the amazon us store items

          good one amazon.

Likewise, it says I qualify for free shipping, then only gives the option to pay for shipping.

  • I ordered mine from Amazon Japan because it was cheaper than Amazon Australia at the time. They haven’t shipped it yet! I ordered the niziu smacard at the same time because it was 500 yen and it’s already in Australia. I wonder if it’s too late to cancel.

I was hoping Target or Big W would have it so I could use my Afterpay credit on it.

  • can i neg for the use of the word 'kiddos'? Despite that, why are so expensive?

Nostalgia is a good money earner. This is for the cashed up 20-30 who used to have one as kid.

I bet no one is buying it for their kids. Most kids would get bored of it in 10 mins. Why would you pay this weekend you can play Adopt Me on your ipad/iPhone or Animal Crossing on your Switch, Stardew valley or even Minecraft?

      • ahhh the old nostalgia emotion, completely emotional, subjective and irrational. I'll take 10!!! I guess we live for
a quick high in this life or simpler times when life wasn't so complicated and mindy

      • For it to be nostalgia it would have to be a period where people stopped buying them.

Late 90s: OG Tamagotchis, Digimon, Gigapets
        2000s: Tamagotchi Connections
2010s: Tamagotchi iD and Tamagotchi 4U
2020s: Tamagotchi Pix and Tamagotchi Uni

I always return to virtual pets every couple of years.

Nah, Lego, Star Wars, Care Bears, Barbie, Meccano, Hot wheels, Pokemon, etc

Apparently Kidults are driving toy sales growth.

          https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/19/kidults-biggest-sales-driver…

          • @M00Cow: You completely missed the point. For it to be nostalgic, it has to be something that use to exist and was brought back. Tamagotchis never went away.

It's like saying people are ordering steak at restaurants because they eat it as a kid.

  • How am I in my 30's and only just realising that it has the Japanese word for egg in the name..

    • cos kids are stuupid

  • You can buy the purple uni via Amazon Japan on Amazon Australia for $72.88, free shipping with Prime!! https://amzn.asia/d/0LfrFBc

    Right when mine just shipped.

    • You should post that as a deal. Would be a great first post!
