    Time to pricebeat at bunnings
Lowest prices are just the beginning..

    • +1

Bunnings price match does not cover 3rd party vendors such as JW Computer there.

  • getting you don't have access to this resource error.

    • try a different browser? worked fine for me and im not logged in or anything

  • how noisy is this keyboard?

    • Not clicky switches, but will still be quite loud if you bottom out hard when you type. Will be decently pingy too.

      • Na - not for me then. thanks!

    • +1

browns aren't as loud as blues but they're still loud especially if you bottom out then they're just as bad as blues

  • +9

Wireless with only ~75hrs battery life fk that

    • +2

and that ~75 hours is with the lights turned off. Lights on and it drops to ~25 hours.

    • +1

5 minute charge for 6hrs, so a full day charge is less than 10 minutes.

75 hours is probably 8-9 days of usage, one charge per week-ish.

      • +3

        one charge per week-ish.

That's pretty bad compared to Logitech ones that you only need to charge once of twice a year.

If you're fine without a backlight and don't mind red switches then Logitech also has a model that takes AAA batteries and lasts up to 3 years.

edit: The AAA battery one is on sale at Mwave at the moment for $79.

Could try to price match at JB or Officeworks to save on shipping and stack with 15% bonus on gift cards. (and perks vouchers at JB?)

        • Thanks for replying, I'm actually going to try and cancel my HP order now.

Edit: I emailed and requested a refund, if that goes through, I may be getting the Logitech you recommended.

          • +1

@Jimbuscus: The Logitech one is a nice little keyboard, got one recently :)

Nice to see probably Cherry MX switches. A lot of mechanical keyboards use cheaper alternatives.

    • They might be clearing out Cherry for HyperX switches considering HP bought them

    • +8

That’s because the cheaper alternatives now keep up with, if not outperform cherry MX these days, it’s not 2016 anymore.

      • +1

True, the Logitech I'm using uses Kailh switches, which I have not heard of before. Gateron is more common.

        • Chances are those are Logitech's own Romer G switches, not Kailh. Those Romers are honestly s*** in comparison, I would know as I used to own 2 Logitech G boards.

          • +1

@CrispyChrispy: It says Kaith on the switches, that's how I found out.

Apparently compatible with Nuphy key caps, was thinking to swap out the alphas, arrows, and enters.

          • +1

@CrispyChrispy: Logitech have the crappy Romer G, which you've bought 2 lots of it seems lol

However, the Logitech GX switches are indeed Kailh. It literally says it on the switches. Whether they're modded versions for Logitech specifically, doubt, who knows.

          • @CrispyChrispy: Are they they ones that they advertised as feeling like a hybrid between mechanical and rubber dome? They were kind of like a mechanical keyboard, but mushy.

The Geterons in my GMMK are the best I've used so far.

            • @macrocephalic:

are they the ones that they advertised as feeling like a hybrid between mechanical and rubber dome?

I think those are Topre switches, they still have a spring but also use a rubber dome for resistance and a capacitive switch.

Cherry had the best switches about a decade ago… that was until the patent for their mx switch design lapsed in 2014. After that lots of companies have sprung up and are now competitive, and some even more popular than Cherry.

There's quite a few manufacturers now: Gateron, Kailh, Outemu, TTC, JWK and Tecsee to name the major ones. If you dive deep enough into the custom mechanical keyboard rabbit hole you'll find that there's no such thing as the 'best keyboard switch' manufacturer or even the best type of switch. People generally just buy what works for them.

The Cherry mx switch is not the selling point of the keyboard. You do want to check to see if the custom software is any good, battery life, whether the switches are hot-swappable, whether the keycaps are PBT or ABS or whether the board has sound dampening foam installed etc.

The red flag is the 75 hour battery life (backlight off). I believe this has something to do with the keyboard's high polling rate which causes it to use a lot of power. Good for gamers but not so great for work if you cannot change the polling rate to save power.

Cherry switches are nothing to boast of. They were the good option 10+ years ago. Though I did read a couple years back that they were finally updating some of their molds.

Many better options out there, in more than the limited profiles of red/blue/brown.

  • Thanks OP was looking for a replacement to my current keyboard … this might just be the one! Time to get rid of the wires..

  • $300 and no numpad, yikes

  • -7

Hope you like loosing keyboard access mid-game.
75 hours? Really? I bought a Logitech G613 last year and haven't changed the two AA batteries yet. I game every day. (It also has a numpad)
This is no deal. You couldn't pay me to use this garbage.

I’m not an expert by any means - but my understanding is that keyboards with removable batteries (eg AA or AAA) typically have much longer battery life (weeks/months), whereas those with internal batteries usually have shorter battery life (hours).

Compared to others with an internal battery, the Omen Spacer apparently has pretty good battery life (according to Tom’s Hardware and PCMag reviews that I had read).

And you also have the flexibility of connecting via the USB cable as well for use, not just for charging.

So the benefit on paper is that you’ll never be caught without batteries to actually use your keyboard.

The battery chemistry has nothing to do with the battery life of your keyboard. It's down to it's features.

the Logitech MX Mechanical keys is a wireless mechanical keyboard that can last up to 10 months (if backlight is off) on a single charge of it's built in LiPo cell battery.

It lasts that long because it doesn't have a high polling rate, if it did have a poll rate of 1000hz or even 8000hz (like many gamer-oriented keyboards) then you will see a dramatically shorter battery life. The polling rate is how many times a second your mouse or KB is reporting to your computer for inputs: 125 hertz is the polling rate of a budget keyboard (worst case scenario: 8 milliseconds of extra latency)

Quickly googled some reviews….. they weren’t exactly glowing…….

This can be said for all HP hardware.

    • Always get HP on sale, never full price :-)

      • Best avoid HP and Acer at any price.

  • -1

wow they're originally charging $300 and cannot even remap every single key? LOOOOOOOL! I wouldn't be surprised if they copied or using the same controller/firmware like Logitrash. Only "dedicated" macro keys.

    Cringe.

Id be buying an Akko before buying this

  • I recently purchased kmart anko gaming kyb blue switches on clearance and am super Happy with it for office work from WFH. Not a gamer though if that is relevant.

Thanks OP. Good keyboard. Received yesterday. Happy with the purchase. Replacing a Ducky Cherry Blue TKL. Much releaved acoustically.

    • Great to hear it benefited someone!

  • Mine just arrived. The keyboard is great, however, I'm having issues using it with Mac. I can't switch the Common and Option keys under Mac's Modifier Keys setting.

Now I'm trying to return it. Also, please note this keyboard does not support Bluetooth.
