ShopBack Is So Dodgy - Rejected Large Cashback

This may sound like a rant but extremely disappointed how shopback rejected $109 cashback for Superloop.

My order confirmation has shopback logo(see below).
https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/82858/105186/screensho…

My cashback was not automatically tracked and they rejected it when I lodged missing cashback request(see below).
https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/82858/105187/screensho…

I didn't click anything in between and only completed the sign up form after clicking through Shopback. Currently I am using Superloop and 1st payment has already been made.

All small cashbacks are being tracked automatically and approved but this large cashback was neither tracked nor approved.

Just want to warn other people of their dodgy practice.

  • Did you contact Shopback so they can investigate it further? ;)

    • +4

      Yes I did.

This is on back of missing cashback, so they were already investigating it on back of missing cashback request and rejected it after 6 weeks.

Ozbargain Rule 27.8(3a) : purchase an item with "cash back" by assuming that the tracking will fail and it's merely a bonus if it pays out.

    • yes just think of you going to casino but not really spending anything (well that is if you really want to buy the item).
you get the cashback or not, the chance is just like playing pokies. higher chance of small amount, less for big

Agree, cash back tracking always makes me nervous when placing orders

  • Hi.

The Date/Time Stamp of 30/05/2023 17:12 on your Order Confirmation is after your Cashback Request/Rejection of 30/05 16:55

This seems wrong, I would have thought the Order Confirmation Date/Time would always precede any Cashback Request Acceptance (or rejection).

    • 16:55 is from click history tab

  • This was via the econnex site ? If so, I'm sure you'll find plenty of examples of failed cashback claims via them.

    • I clicked through shopback(there is no mention of Econnex on their Superloop page).

      • But it lands on the econnex referral price comparisons site? And the econnex logo is in your screenshot next to the superloop one

I knew exactly which superloop plan i was going to activate and clicked on it straight away after clicking from Shopback.

It says Superloop on Shopback page and all communication refers to Superloop. Irrespective, there is a concrete evidence and the cashback is still being rejected.
          .

        • I just went on shopback app and clicked into superloop, I also have the econnex logo even though I have never used it before.

I had the exact same situation with Tangerine via econnex. They rejected my $99 cashback saying it wasn't tracked, so I ended up asking the shopback rep here for help and he/she escalated the issue for me. I signed up with Tangerine in February this year and I finally got my cashback last week. I think the dodgy bit is with econnex and not shopback itself in my opinion.

  • Unfortunately this is just how it goes with cash back sites.

I had the same experience with shopback (on a book store though) which soured me on them. Basically - as others have said only buy if you were going to anyway and not for the cash back. They're ultimately just a company like any other looking to make money and not so concerned about the customer.

but look how come anz, westpac trusted and back them up ? it is so amazing how they can convince such a bank with smart ppl (i assumed) to be their investors
must be doddy cooked books like dicksmith story

      • If the business model makes sense it makes sense.

I don't doubt they make money. But a company can still screw over its customers and be a worthwhile investment.

      • anz, westpac trusted

        LOL! LOL! LOL!

As if these big banks don't screw over their customers every single day!!!

  • Did you sign up with any referral or promo code?

Are you using adblocker on your browser that can prevent tracking or cookie remover?

I had a substantial Shopback cash back denied - in my case it was for accommodation. Followed all protocols to ensure everything was OK for approval but was still denied after submitting claim. Their reason was totally BS so I just stopped using Shopback. I now use Cashrewards and they've been pretty good. The rep on OzB is excellent.

Cashrewards are 1000 times better than Shopback. Never have I had an issue with CR. But SB without fail force me to chase them up every time.

Plus CR gift card promos are always much better than SB.

I've been saying this for well over a year now. Shopback's modus operandi is to automatically deny or "miss" the tracking on upsized cashback deals. Every single upsized cashback promo they have fails to track for me. But normal, smaller cashbacks have absolutely zero issues with tracking.

They expect most people to forget about it so they can keep their affiliate commission and then double dip by taking a gamble with keeping your cashback also.

I screen record every cashback with those dodgy (expletives) now. Threaten them with Fair Trading. It's the only tactic that seems to work. But they'll drag it out for as long as they can first.

I found Shop Back good for a while, but their customer service isn't there. If something doesn't go smoothly they don't care and it is your problem.

For that reason, I have stopped using them and use the alternatives instead.

      customer service

I'm sure they service their customers just fine.
Members on the other hand …are disposable items

Hey mate, sorry to hear of your trouble here, that's definitely not what we like to here, often when Cashback fails to track but we've logged the click the store may be attributing the purchase to another service that we don't have visibility on. I'm happy to ask our team to escalate this with Superloop further for you for here if you reach out to me via DM with your account info mate, always happy to do what I can to help make things right.

These cashback whinge-fest OPs are beyond boring.

@scotty - can these be amalgamated via a mega whinge thread?

    • +1

I wish you the strength to persevere through this difficult time.

      • -1

Lord - it's getting tougher & tougher with each cashback whinge post. When will it end?

        • There isnt a server powerful enough to run 1 mega thread

@gotyourback Hello ShopBack !!! u rejected 10s of my ebay & ebay plus claims - I cannot even contact shopback support - becoz ur BOT is not letting me talk to a Human at all - what u say for this

Hey mate, sorry to hear of the trouble here, you can definitely reach out via email at [email protected] so our team can take a closer look, or if you shoot me a DM and I can take a look to try and see if I can see what's happened here.

  • Did you a coupon code or offer? That might be a valid reason for the cashback to be rejected.

I feel your pain. I sent a request for a review to Shopback support and the person who responded clearly blatantly made things up .

When I asked if they can provide support….as expected they have have gone silent and no response.

The fact a customer service person can apply this tactic as there is no accountability makes you question Shopbacks integrity to their customers.

    is it resolved ?

    • No, there is no further update SB

Here are my tips to hold Shopback to account:
1 Use the Shopback App- its then more difficult to deny the transaction was a result of clicking through from Shopback
2 Record the entire process with a screen recorder which provides evidence you didn't engage in any prohibited practices which then becomes difficult to ignore evidence
3 Lodge a missing cashback claim if the transaction is not tracked
4 Finally if all else fails threaten and then lodge a case with NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal on the basis that the provision of their service meets the definition of “Major failure” under Australian Consumer Law because you would not have bought the particular item/service had you known that the cashback would have been dishonoured. Make sure you add the cost of making this case to the amount Shopback owe you.
5 In the unlikely event that Shopback doesn't then pay you in full and you have to proceed with the case you have the evidence and Consumer law on your side.

  • Another +1 for this situation. Happened with a New Balance offer. Missed out on $50, done through the app. Just had a Exetel one not track worth $59.50 which I've just lodged. Turned off ublock. Also another one for a purchase of a mattress over a year ago.
But the small ones goes through, like Amazon and ebay.
