Hey ozb I am going traveling for the first time with my new born he's 8kg. Just wondering if there's any advice out there for a good pram.
Thanks

  • budget? We took a minu and vista with extra seat o/s, couldn’t imagine using anything else. We tried a heap of different brands at baby show at the time of buying and even went to the dedicated stand-alone redsbaby marketing event and the uppabbays were a clear winner for us

  • What age do you mean "newborn"? At 8kg I assume he's not just born last week, but there will be different options for over or under 6 months.

    • He's a big 3 months :)

      • Ahh ok, sorry no suggestions here then! My little ones were also chunky but we didn't travel until they could sit up in 6 month+ travel pram.

We got a baby jogger city tour 2. We've taken it interstate and overseas and it travels very well. There is a newborn attachment for it but I think it's less of a travel pram when you add it. Only downsides is a small basket and it doesn't stand up on its own when you fold it, but for fold down size and ease it has been worth it.

I'm not sure there will be too many travel pram options for babies so young, maybe a carrier is the better option but understand baby is not light so it's not easy! We brought a carrier when we travelled with my then 10 month old and barely used it as 11kg was not fun to carry all day.

        • Good to know thanks for the insight. Yeah it will be his first trip and he's already on the big side :) thanks for your help

  • Thanks for the feedback we have an uppababy Cruz but wondering about a dedicated travel pram. Was wondering what would be suitable for a 3 month old. We still use the insert for the cruz.

Ah that young, have you considered a nice carrier instead such as ergobaby Omni 360 mesh - worth the dosh.

      • Thanks mate will do

If you are taking a plane get one that can fit into the overhead compartments.

A Babyzen Yoyo with a newborn nest can fold up and fits most airline carry on requirements.

We picked up a Redsbaby Skip and its pretty good. Definitely a bit of a luxury item as it won't really replace a full on pram that you would use everyday, but it is very handy for travelling.

  • Mountain buggy nano was used on many holidays domestic and international. Can usually find on fb for pretty cheap

    • Thanks I'll look into it

  • Baby Jogger City Tour 2 here as well, which we used when travelling internationally with our 3 month old. A baby carrier is also useful. It can go in the cabin or as checked luggage.

  • Redsbaby Skip. Have taken ours all over the world & have always been able to carry onboard the aircraft so avoids damage in the baggage hold & can use from door to door between airport transfers. Also, the seat reclines & full shade cover so idea for when baby wants to sleep when you are out for lunch etc.

    • Sounds great thanks for the recommendation

  • Have a look at the Milly and Coup Pixi, it's a relatively new product. We ended up keeping this one after trying the Reds Skip and the entire range at Baby Bunting. Found it was the easiest to fold out of all, very light without feeling flimsy like some of the others. It also has a front facing newborn pack which from what I can see others don't offer.

    • Thanks for the detailed response. I will look into the pixi
