16GB version also 25% off. $524.25 - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C1YFML8S

Tried to post this last week when they had coupons available (but was unable). I got the 32Gb one for $559 and the 16GB one was $489. Still the 25% off price is good.

I think, not sure as compared others, it's still expensive

    • +1

Links to others of same spec at lower prices?

I just raised point, that few more dollars can get new gen mini pc. I thinks its pretty old, but its good too. But cannot put 600 $ for it. I am waiting for Um790 Pro to be available in Australia

      • 4 5 days ago, beelink ser6 pro was on deal on amazon for $769 for 32gb and 1tb. Cpu is 7735hs

        • +1

Yes, a good deal for sure. Still $200 more than what I paid (although not 1TB),

    • +1

Yea, I will get one if it was $399. That's 50% off their RRP.

My brother talked me out of this on Prime day. Let's not focus on that though…

I haven't found the Beelink iterations that easy to follow. As I understand this is the SER5 Pro.

There is available now a SER6.

And soon I imagine there will be available on Amazon a GTR7.

The GTR7 gets rid of the 2.5mm bay for a fan (probably a good thing), removes the cloth guard from SER6 (from my perspective a very good thing) and adds RDNA3 (I imagine for some anti-vaxxers a very bad thing).

Reviews of them all are generally favourable. My bro's argument was that they're not taking heat serious and I am interested in how they hold up long-term.

The GTR7 does some weird stuff like adding fingerprint recognition and a mag-safe style cable (but not mag-safe). The former could be useful for the right user, the latter got criticised in reviews because it isn't immediately obvious how it stops accidental falls and it becomes a very difficult connector to source replacements for. I can be corrected but I do believe it is possible to ignore the mag-safe and power by USB-C to one of the ports (which are not clearly labelled).

Second controversial opinion: you'll always get more bang for buck out of AMD versus Intel. So kind of worth a look.

      Well explained, thanks

    • Dad jokes aside, AMD actually gives an good explanation (albeit hardly impartial) of RDNA:

      https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/rdna

GTR7 transitions from RDNA2 to RDNA3 as I understand it. Reviewers say beyond the marketing hype the step-up is a good thing.

      • Worth waiting for 7945hx Mini PC?

        • I don't know. I spent hours on this and am still mostly confused. 😁

@markathome: Um790 pro from minisforum is cheaper than beelink gtr7 pro. They have less issues than beelink too. But import duties and taxes make the device expensive. So I was thinking to wait a little more as they are planning to launch 13980hx and 7945hx mini pcs.. desktop end cpu

            • @Zeee: i was actually looking into this. if you buy direct from them, you will get to pay more taxes here SYD? has anyone experienced that?
the um790 looks great ! i wish had that new gpu rx7600xt

you'll always get more bang for buck out of AMD versus Intel. So kind of worth a look.

Wouldn't say it is controversial anymore, but also would very much depend on your goal. For instance, I would advise against AMD for plex server without a proper GPU. Quicksync on Intels is just way too good value for that purpose.

Do all these tiny computers that have been posting lately, especially those on Aliexpress, have Windows actually activated?

There is a huge difference between Windows installed and installed and activated, of course. Windows actually costs the makers significant money. The Chinese are usually reluctant to pay for IP.

    • I'd be surprised if the cheaper mini PCs sold on Aliexpress come activated, and if they do, they'll most likely be illegitimate.

      • The listings often say Windows installed.

The moderators need to crack down on this as it’s deceptive.

        • +1

This has a fully licensed version of Win 11 pro.

        • Given it's Amazon, you could surely return if Windows is not activated. I don't think Amazon nor the courts would see it as reasonable to advertise "Windows 11" and it be installed but not activated. I think even "Windows 11 installed" would be insufficient. You'd need to say something like "Windows 11 installed not activated", "Windows 11 installed (must provide own key)", etc.

          How is it deceptive?

Alternatively, you could educate yourself on the difference and research what you're buying before you buy it.

    • +1

It comes with Win11 Pro installed and activated.

  • The 16GB version was $489 last week (I got one!)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/789781

    • That's for the Ryzen 5, this one has a Ryzen 7 CPU.

      • It was the Ryzen 7 I got for $489 - Its in my post halfway down as the Ryzen 7 was only around $90 more compared to the 5.

        • +1

Correct. Mentioned it above in the original post. 16/500 was $210 off and the one I got (32/500) was $240 off.

        • BTW happy with it? Mine arrives tomorrow. Got another 2TB Mx550 SSD ready for it.

This is going to be my emulation machine as well as a good little desktop when I need some more grunt.

@boxall: Bought SER5 recently. yeah good little toy, quiet and powerful.

    What a ripper little unit!

  • Amazon screwed up when I asked for a change of delivery date and now my item has been cancelled. Never ever had Amazon issues.

  • what's the opinion around using it for trans-codec (hecv encoding) purpose comparing to Intel?

  • Just about to set mine up. I only have one HDMI and one DP. Wtf???

    • All good. My monitor also has DP so works out fine.
