I had one of these for travelling.. then I realised how important a side pocket is for bottles of water.
    Good deal though.

Water, or an umbrella! Not having to put it inside the bag when wet is great.

I need a new bag but this ain't it sadly 😅

    • +2

Agreed. Got the black one last time.

No side pocket and not the most comfortable bag to carry when travelling.

Looks good thou and can't really complain for the price.

I recently bought a Macpac traveler bag and it is really great. They have a side pocket for bottles. The one I got unzips all around like a suitcase. I think it’s called Utsifoy or something. But generally I find Macpac put in a lot of thought into their designs.

    What's better than 1 side pocket … 2 side pockets … !

    • It's genius, really.

  • +2

They have an XL at the same price.

    • +2

yes, and comes in ugly design/colour.

These are as good as the Kmart ones. Wonder why people buy these overpriced stuff. Maybe just an arm candy.

    • +3

They used to be for wearing with black frames, tight jeans, a fixie bike and a beanie. Then everyone grew beards and these went in the discount bin.

    • +1

I've had mine for about 6yrs and there isn't a loose thread on it. It feels like it will last another 10years easily. I'm not sure about the Kmart ones but I would be surprised if they lasted more than a couple of years

      • +4

I've got a Kmart one last me 5 years and counting including a trip around Europe and many trips around Oz.

The sides of the bottom is tearing, one of the zippers broke and the colour has gone dull but I am very impressed in terms of value for money.

      • My liner tore away near seams in less than 1 year. The fake leather stuff used for the top handle cracks and flakes before 10 years.

You're not wearing this backpack correctly if it's on your arms.

    • +3

Having owned both they aren't. Kmart works in a pinch if you use it for the occasional outing but this will put up with a daily beating much much better.

Kmart tends to win these bouts because 9/10 times the products being purchased are being used once in a blue moon and cost a quarter of the price, tell you what though I reckon this $30 herschel bag is still gonna be good in 10 years, the kmart bag will be sitting in the bottom of a closet with 3 out of 4 stuffed zippers and the internal lining falling apart. Spend the extra 5-10-15 bucks and buy something that is far less likely to end up in landfill.

  • this is a very good travel companion.

    Pick pocketers approve.

The comments section kills the deal. ;)

      OzBargain.

Come for the deal, stay for the comments.

    • Hehe my thoughts too. Good!

    People pay $90 for that?

    • +1

Just like people pay 100's for Jordans

      100's for RM's

      100's for Patagonia

      100's for Dr Martens

A tale as old as time, humans pay up for status…

I went to a concert last week (i'm in my 30's), I literally think 1 in 3 people had Air Jordans on.

    • What other bag wear better ?

  • +4

Backpacks with no side pockets are not practical for daily use.

    • Disagree. The two things I just my backpacks most regularly for are supermarket trips and sports games, and any side pockets I have are rarely used. For me, I'm looking for bags closer to the 30 litre mark just for carrying capacity.

      • +2

you don't carry a water bottle to sports games?

        • +4

          e-sports

          • @CptnObvious: If you are not wearing your reebok pumps do you really even e-sports?

            /s

        • +2

Goes in the main compartment… doesn't leak. shrug emoji

          • @park: My anxiety levels would be off the charts if I have anything loose outside my bag ie. water bottle

      • +2

Id be with you, but after my trip to Japan I found the mesh side pocket in my aldi backpack to be an essential addition. Easy access and a permanently upright position means no funny business with leaky bottles and the rest.

      • If its for supermarket trips, consider getting yourself a hiking backpack for $50 (usually after someone's euro trip)

        • +1

My standard Adidas backpack and two reusable bags gets the job done… I'm two blocks from my supermarket and tend to go there a couple of times per week :)

  • Im seeing a few comments opposed to this bag. Is there a bag that you guys recommend for travel? In this case I mean going to Japan and just meandering around Tokyo

    • +1

Any bag that is comfortable. You're not going to get pickpocketed and there is food everywhere, vending machines and convenience stores everywhere, so you don't really need to carry much with you.

Only thing logistically about Tokyo is there are not a lot of street rubbish bins around so you will mostly need to carry your rubbish with you if you are taking food away. That's about it. That, and if you are travelling on the subway at peak times you might want a small bag for the cruuuuush.

    • +1

Too big for a day pack imo but depends what you want to take with you. Roaming around cities, it would be mostly empty as there isn't much to take apart from maybe a drink bottle, maybe a jumper and travel umbrella and some small items. I dont find it as comfortable when fully loaded though so wouldnt be my preference to use as a carry on and doesnt provide much protection if you take a laptop of tablet in there.
