OzBargain iOS App Notifications Issues

I’ve been using the OzBargain iOS app for a little bit now and it’s been great. However these last few weeks I’ve noticed notifications aren’t working well. When I click on a notification the post does not open.

If I force close the app it works for a few notifications and then it happens again.

I then tried deleting then reinstalling the app and the same issue occurs. Has anyone else had similar issues or a suggestion on how to fix?

  • Didn't know there was an app! Looking for an android one now but they seem to be abandoned.. All I want is notifications for my saved searches - I usually don't see emails until it's too late

    • Yep I didn’t know either for a long time. It’s great when it works but hasn’t been worked on for a while. Same here that’s why I downloaded it as I always get the email too late and don’t have time to constantly check. Hopefully they fix the notifications on iOS but not sure how to inform admin?

Be good to get an Android app too, that’s usually before Apple so I’m shocked it hasn’t happened.

    • You can install the APK until (if) we get the play store app updated to support newer versions of android or some other solution.

The notification bug is a long time issue unfortunately.

      • Thanks for letting android users know. Did you know about the iOS notification issue?

        • That issue happens on Android too and has for some time. Scott did not plan on future app development as it's too costly, restrictive and will require continual fixes/updates. The app was done by a 3rd party. I believe he was looking for someone to do basic bug fixes, but also looking at other solutions for notifications.

          • @hamza23: Ah I see cheers, I noticed the last few weeks it got much worse. It hardly ever happened to me a month ago. Hopefully he finds something or can fix the bug as I love the app, makes life easier haha

          • @hamza23: Thanks for explaining. Come to think of it, if we have set certain searches then all we really need is the phone to sound a notification for emails sent from a certain sender or with a certain subject line - that must be possible another way without the need for an app. I'll have a go.

            • @Horacio: We already have web notifications on OzBargain, which is prefered to email notifications. The android/ios app basically converts those web notifications (for the bell icon next to my account) into push notifications. Scott is looking at other simpler ways to get those OzBargain web notifications instantly to your ios/android device, such as a Telegram bot linking to the API.

I'm not a technical guy, that is the limit of my understanding :)

Sidebar regarding iOS notifications: Safari now supports PWAs (Progressive Web Apps) sending notifications and it works well with sites that support it. However, adding Ozbargain.com.au to your home screen doesn't convert it to a PWA, it instead just redirects you to the Safari app.

Is there any chance of Ozbargain's site supporting this option in the future?
